EDIT: This post and all the subsequent posts in this thread were split from the Rudy Gay thread. - VF21
Too expensive.
Will not workout in a couple years as he will probably ditch us for a higher salary than what we can offer.
Meanwhile, back to reality......
If people are looking for an NBA contender squad, this is not currently it or in the making.
Instead, we are letting a prospect in D-Will play a supporting role with minimal minutes...until tonight.
Start D-Will with Gay, Cousins, IT (soon to be replaced) and JT or another PF if he is traded.
I don't know about the rest of you but it's not just about making the playoffs. It's about having an actual chance to win it. In order to get a squad like that, you need to prioritize. Mostly, with draft picks. Unfortunately, bringing in Rudy Gay dampened our future. Sure, we'll win some big games this season and everything will be fun and dandy (still no playoffs) and then when Rudy Gay leaves, what are we left with?? Nothing. And on top of that, a 7-12 draft pick which is still good but missing out on the potential of getting a superstar like Demarcus Cousins or an NBA ready player like Jabari Parker who could actually help the Kings make the playoffs next season and compete. Just look at what Lebron James did with that Cleveland franchise. A player single handily taking a team to the playoff finals. Kind of unthinkable but if we get a player who is half as good as James in this upcoming draft then we'd be pretty well off considering we still have COUSINS who is a force in this league already. If we had a top 5 draft pick and got either a rim protector or PG from a trade (assuming we got one of the other from the draft), we'd be pretty well off. Also, we could acquire a couple free agents and assuming Ben Mac is not traded for a PG or SG, then we'd have a pretty damn solid squad next season. There's still a chance for this; however, Rudy Gay is the major downside. I'm sure I'll get plenty of hate on here for being the only person to say that acquiring Rudy Gay was a negative thing but at least think about it yourself. Where does our future lie with a 27 year old who is on a 19 million per year contract....that's insane. I know he's an amazing player, and I enjoyed him greatly tonight. I was jumping around each time we scored a basket but then my logic kicked in and said this will not workout. If anything, we can use him as trade asset but will that be worth dropping a potential top 5 pick in the upcoming draft? Sure, this draft could be a bust and maybe 1 or none of the players actually become superstars but the majority if not all the superstars that are in our league came from a draft at some point. When you've got one this hyped up, it's hard to pass up on a top 5 pick. Idk, I just hope our FO know what they're doing. The last decade with this team has been disappointing cause we kept making stupid moves over and over again. I'd hate to miss out on another superstar only to have a Rudy Gay for a season or two and then get a couple washed up prospects for him like we always seem to do.
Also, I won't go into the whole IT thing, but it's another night that the opposing point guard scored a career high. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting tired of seeing opposing guards score 30+ (tonight 41) on us. Surely, the FO can't be overlooking this critical aspect to the game. A point guard and a big man are the two most important assets to a winning basketball club. You lack in one of those aspects and the rest of the team is donezo.
On the plus side, as a Kings fan, it's nice to see us beating these big teams. Now, lets just see a good performance like this against an average team like Orlando or Bobcats...
I just feel like our team like many bottom league squads only play big ball against top notch teams only to flop against the bottom rung squads.
