i know we're 4-2, i know we've improved defensively, but fans of other teams arent really impressed with what they've seen from sacramento. i havent seen 1 game yet so i dont know. on a scale of 1-10 how would you all rate the kings play this regular season? in comparison to a kings game watching doug, webber, and peja

All I can tell you is they havn't traded Miller or Thomas but its nice to know you have that as your signature without watching a game all season:confused:

Completely different teams and completely different styles (and levels of comfort as a team).

Comparing them is like comparing the US Basketball team to the San Antonio Spurs. Sure, the US team has loads of talent, but they aren't yet a team ... whereas the Spurs are very comfortable with each other.

I haven't been "impressed" with our play, yet. I'm only now starting to see the things that I'd like to see out of our team (most post play, Artest playing under control, SAR more offense, Bibby more PG).

At this point, it's not fair to make the comparison. There just isn't enough time to see what is going to stick to the wall and what won't for this team ... the identity just isn't solidified.

But, if you really want a comparison ... 3.

Why a 3? The old-look Kings were fluid and dynamic. It was like watching a master at work. These new Kings, while talented are blue-collar so far. Very plodding and very ugly. We put the stamp of ugly approval on our games. I guess the analogy to a running football team would be fair. We pound it and pound it. There's nothing pretty in what we do.

I'm impressed with the results mind you, but if we're comparing them ... there is little in common.

Holding their own on the boards, arguably the most effective defense in the league, owners of a 4-2 record after starting the schedule with three away home openers in 4 nights. Almost all of this accomplished without Brad Miller and with a gimped up Mike Bibby turning it over 5 times per night.

7!

I'm delighted the team - they have exceeded my expectations.

well, at least from the highlights that i see this new kings team isnt as sharp and crips offensively as the old team was. this team is hard nosed defense and rebounding. nothing pretty about it at all. but its not pretty when you watch the spurs or pistons either. i think this team has alot of one on one going on. but its all good cuz we have the players to do it. but more assists is always a better thing.

We've toned down the one-on-one fest.

Over the past 3 games, there has been a concerted effort to play as a team.

With the Kings of Russell being a 1 and the Kings of 02-03 a 10, I'd give this team a 7. They are playing good defense. They're offense is inconsistent. Plenty of bright spots but nothing that makes you think this team is a contender.

Who really cares what fans of other teams think about our team???...

On a scale of 1-10, i would give the Kings a 7.9.

There defense is insane right now and there offense is a little out of wack but it will come...

It's been a little ugly early, with the defense more or less keeping them in some of the games. The offense will need time to get the nuances and player tendencies. It isn't pretty, but has been working just well enough to get wins (for the most part - with some flashes of really good ball movement). I would anticipate that that is where we are going to see the most improvement over the next few weeks.

realistically speaking, this kings team is a 6 in my book, with lots of room to improve, and lots of time to do it. we're 4-2, a very respectable record through 6 games, all things considered. eventually, though, we're gonna have to play some of the teams who will be real contenders this season, rather than fakers with potential like the bulls. the mavericks are 2-4 and the suns are 2-5, but we all know those teams are gonna catapult their way to the top of their divisions by the end of the season. whereas the lakers, who are 5-3, also a respectable record, all things considered, will probably come down outta the clouds relatively soon. things will even out, eventually, and i imagine the kings will even out in the shuffle as well. that's not necessarily a bad thing, because it means we'll be gauging the talent and potential of our team on a realistic scale. looking at the standings all across the nba, its clear that through 6 or 7 games there are no assurances of anything. give it another 15-20 and then ask this question again.

as of right now, the kings look good. they look better than i thought they would, especially without brad miller. but an 82 game grind is gonna wear on our starters eventually unless we show some signs of true depth. ronnie price and francisco garcia have looked great in their spot utility roles, but will they be able to rise to the occasion when they're called to do more? will quincy douby crack the rotation anytime soon, or will it become clear that it would have been more pertinent to draft rajon rondo or marcus williams, who both appear to be top 10 ranked rookies? does corliss still have enough stride in his step to be an effective reserve? is mike gonna be able to play 80+ games again this season, or is he gonna start wearing down as well? how serious is his wrist injury? how serious is brad's plantar fascitis? is it something that will linger all season long for him? is kevin martin gonna be able to keep up his excellent level of play? how about ron ron? is he gonna be able to keep a cool head for an entire season? all signs point in a positive direction for him, but he's just about as predictable as his shot selection. will musselman be able to keep the favor of all his players? will they continue to buy into his system? will they play such hard-nosed defense for the full 82, all the way into the playoffs? there are a lot of questions regarding what will happen with this team, and murphy's law has always been the law of kingsland, as well, so i still have trouble picturing this team as better than a 6th-8th seed, but who knows? maybe all of the above questions are answered with W's. maybe not. regardless, its gonna be a fun season with lots of potential.

What impresses me most is that this team is playing this well defensively this early. I had a feeling they would eventually start playing this way, just not this soon and they can still get much better.

Yeah, I'm very impressed with the Defense and how we are outboarding teams where stats and "experts" thought we would be getting killed on the boards. We have our starters in place like we played the 2nd 1/2 of last season so we know they can be much better offensively. As long as the Defense keeps up, the Offense will take care of itself and we will be good.

I say a FIRM 7.5 to 8, the Defense is a 9, the Offense a 7 or less. I do like how K9 is not taking many shots and taking what he gets and playing good D against the better (best) PF in the league like KG and Bosh. I hope Ron is more selective with his shots and doesn't keep trying to do things he isn't good at and rather drive to the basket which he is good at and dish out to KMoney, Bibby, SAR who have a high % shoot.

I can say one thing. The game Kings used to play with Rick Adelman as their head coach....that high octane offense, was good to watch and beat up on teams that were sub par... and although fans of other teams may not appreciate this new kings style of playing, this is exactly the type of playing that can get the Kings the championship they are on quest for....And teams like San antonio and Dallas will definitely appreciate this new style of Kings when playoff comes.

They are playing the way Mussleman said he would have them playing. The offense isn't quite yet there, but the stats speak for themselves and there are things that don't show up in the stats.

This team deflects balls, steals balls, rotates on defense, rebounds with a passion, and most of all HUSTLES. The offense is coming together and will hopefully get there soon. The bench still needs to be developed but Muss is obviously still trying out many different combinations and that causes a lack of fluidity at times.

Exactly. We've gotten a good taste of what our defense is capable of and we have caught a wiff of what our offense can do. It'll come together, in time.

Well, in the spirit of the OP, I give this team a 2, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Let's try to keep in mind that the OP did not ask to rate the team from 1-10 based on how good you think they are, but to rate them 1-10 based on how they compared to the "old" (presumably Webber/Divac) Kings.

So far, Roman's the only one in this thread who's answered the question honestly, based on what the OP actually asked.
