How attached are we?

I was having a debate with a friend of mine about moving certain King's players. Hypothetical, no salaries or reality involved. Just the typical would "The Hulk beat Iron Man in a brawl" type discussions.

Anyhow, in the course of discussion I said I'd move Martin for Diaw, because it would allow Bibby to play the off-guard while giving us the playmaker and defender at the 2. He said no way, Martin was the greatest thing since MJ (well, that's my own spin on his words anyways). In my opinion, overvaluing what Martin brings.

So, we continue down this path and basically every King starter (save KT) was untradable except for the elite of the elite. Steve Nash, KG, Pierce.

So, I guess the point of this ever increasing lengthy post is - how much do you value our individual pieces?

How averse are you to moving:
Bibby for Baron Davis?
Martin for Diaw?
Artest for Diaw?
Etc, etc, etc.

I say keep Artest and Martin, let the rest go! I would even be willing to give up them if the price was right. Diaw = not enough.

The Hulk would kick Ironman's arse!

Now, why not?

Artest is a great defender, but is a selfish player that wants nothing more than to dominate the ball and the offense. (he already admitted as much) I don't think there is a chance in Hades we keep him for long (or before he kills someone). He'd be one of my first trades.

Martin, I can somewhat see, but from what I've seen he's a mix of Peja and Kerry Kittles. He gets his points off fast breaks and open looks. He's a decent defender, but too weak. Tremendous upside. The reason I had even brought up the Martin for Diaw thing is because I think Martin is a Phoenix player.

Diaw is tall, a great defender and an awesome playmaker. A threat for a triple double every night and locks his man down. One of the only players since Magic that can play every position on the floor. He's also young.

What would it take to move Artest for you?

Okay ... don't go overboard.

I'd move Mike for Baron Davis in a split second.

However I think Diaw's a product mainly of Phoenix's system and we don't have the players to play like that. Also think you're overrating his defense. He's a decent all around player IMO, not more than that. And I'd keep Artest too. But I'd trade everyone else.

I'm not attached to anyone on this roster. I'm all for any move that improves us in the long run - no more short term patches. I don't want Davis here, too injury prone. Not what we need right now.

What's the status on Eddy Curry's contract? Hoopshype says that he's making $8 million a year. I say trade Artest and someone else (not Martin) for Curry and Balkman if possible. Artest can lose his cool anytime and wants to go to New York. Isiah is an idiot. Curry is a big man who can atleast play well offensively. Balkman has potential. It is best to trade Artest before he gets real unhappy. Kings are doing poorly as it is.

I don't think Boris is a "product" of Phoenix, anymore than I think Peja and Bibby are products of Sac's, but he definitely fits the system there.

As for his defense - no, the kid is a really good defender. Tall and quick. It's probably the strongest part of his game. He's not the next Artest, but he's far better than Martin or Bibby.

Why would you keep Artest? Honest question.

I think he walks after his contract. I'd try to get value for him right now. He's too cocky and too selfish to truly be of real value, especially to a rebuilding team.

I would love to see Artest next to a big scorer and a big man - on the Kings. I would love to think that he has found his place here. My only worry is how he will react to loosing lots of games. I fear the rebuilding approach means letting go of anyone and everyone. I still do not want to let go. My brain says it is right but my heart says that it is wrong.

At this point, I would be for trading Artest in a trade that made Kings contenders for a title and nothing less.

Ideally I would like to trade Miller, Bibby, and Thomas without getting crappy contracts in return. Mike Bibby's value is decreasing day by day. Either him or Thomas or Miller must be moved to get the rebuilding going ..and if you are going to rebuild, you're going to have to trade Artest while his value is still high.

didnt i suggest trading artest for curry in another thread? if we could get rid of thomas as well that would be even better...

i love artest but really though... he would be the easiest to move....

I'd move Thomas, but he'd be one of the latter pieces I'd move.

He tries on both ends, which is more than I can say for a lot of players on our team. It's his attitude I'd bail on.
