No one knows right now what's going to happen. What was mentioned at one point was that the Hornets might temporarily play at LSU. The Saints are going to be based in San Antonio.

Honestly, as much as we complain about the Saints and the Hornets, we love them. For many, it is an "I love to hate you" situation, but it is still part of our daily life. The Hornets are new and not as ingrained in our collective mindset, but they are still important. LSU provides a viable option. Possibly ,more so for the Hornets than the Saints if they can work out schedules. Playing in Death Valley will give the Saints MANY less seats and they were remodeling the stadium, but maybe a closer "COLLEGE-LIKE" atmosphere will inspire them.
Forgive my PURELY SELFISH thougts, but I would much rather the Hornets play at the Pete Mac in Baton Rouge than Okalhoma. I go to about 5-6 games a season (I DO NOT miss when the Kings come to town). I would miss being able to go to games. Baton Rouge is fine with me UNTIL we rebuild New Orleans.

Now, getting the SuperDome back in a reasonable period of time will be key because it is the venue for most of the large events New Orleans hosts, and that will bring tourist dollars back into the city. It's a top priority, but certainly a rung below infrastructure and industrial/tourist facilites. More importantly, are locals going to be able to afford to go to games anytime soon? Stern and Tagliabue may need to move the Hornets and Saints with the same kind of agreement that Charlotte and Cleveland recieved in regards to expansion teams.
chelle said:Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. Keeping the Saints in New Orleans gives that to the area. People cannot rebuild without money. It is sad to say, but most of the people who lost everything had the least. They will NEED jobs. The sports side of it is totally trivial. It is the fact that from parking attendants, cleaning crews, ushers, etc the Superdome provides jobs. All these things provide money to people. If local companies get the contract, LOCAL people will be paid to rebuild the Superdome. Again, playing a game in and of itself is so unimportant I hate to even mention it. I just know that we need it to be sure people have jobs. Many people's livelyhood depend on it. That is not even to mention how much of New Orleans' economy is based on the Large events held there. From a purely economical standpoint, they need to be back as soon as possible. Also, most of the poeple who go to the Saints' games to enjoy it are not locals. Again, that is a sad commentary on our social structure, but it is fact.
I TOTALLY AGREE THAT MEDICAL FACILITIES AND HOMES SHOULD HAVE TOP PRIORITY.
The Saints were already on the brink of moving anyway
BigWaxer said:I think you are 100% wroing thinking they should move. Now IMO they will stay even if they were on the brink which you have no facts to back that up as of yet.
When it comes to Los Angeles, the NFL's first priority is picking a stadium site. But the league will have to get around to choosing a team at some point, and two franchises have emerged as the most likely candidates.
The New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers face significant political and financial obstacles in their efforts to get new stadiums, their owners emphasized at last month's league meeting in Washington. And those local conditions often become "the most relevant factors" in teams deciding to relocate, said Sportscorp Ltd. president Marc Ganis, who has consulted on several stadium projects.
Neither Saints owner Tom Benson nor Chargers president Dean Spanos wants to move. The trucks aren't even warming up. But they both want new stadium deals, and they can get out of their leases within the league's timeframe for returning to Los Angeles.
The probable return date is 2009, although NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue hasn't ruled out 2008 despite delays in the process. Tagliabue hopes the league ownership will be in position to pick a stadium site by fall.
Benson confirmed in Washington that he had received a $1billion offer for his team - published reports have indicated that bid came from someone in the L.A. area - but said he is not interested in selling at this point.
"My plan right now is to stay in New Orleans and have my granddaughter take the team over," Benson said.
He also said, when asked if he had considered other options: "You consider everything."

However the one thing over the years that has gotten amercians through times like this is sports. It lets people "forget" at least for a few hours their own troubles.
I am pretty certain in saying that no pro team in any sport that is in Louisiana will be moving as a result of this disaster. Sure they may move and play in a temp facility but I suspect we won't be seeing the LVegas hornets or LA Saints.
It serves everyone best if all pro teams that are in NO stay in NO. It's time for the city to rebuild and for us as americans to show our true character
