On the somewhat bright side, in the 5-3 recent stretch since Alvin took over Holmes hasn't really been that big of a contributor - 16 points in the first win against the Clippers, but only 1 point and 4 points against the Clippers again and Magic. Team also won the LAL and POR games without him. So in a sense, him coming back healthy would just be a bonus.
