HndsmCelt’s Lemonade Recipe
First let me say that I KNOW a lot of posters do not see the firing of Adelman as a bad thing, and to be perfectly frank I DO hesitate to call it a mistake until his successor is actually named. BUT I just don’t see any likely candidates that impress me as an improvement.
Second, I am very certain that the Maloofs have know for a while who they will replace Rick with, all that is left is the announcement. So rather than speculate on who already has the job I am concerned with what can be done to make the change a positive as possible. Sure a lot depends on who the new coach is but many of these up sides have little to do with the name.
So here are some things the franchise COULD do to make the best of this change.

- Sell the change! Try a catchy slogan like: “Kings of the 21st Century” or New Defenders of the Kingdom.” Obviously this will help get fan’s on board, but it goes farther than this. The more media attention, headlines and buzz you create the more intriguing the team will be for potential players.
- Use the “New Direction” in recruiting potential FA’s and in resigning Bonzi. Sure the bottom line with most players is the size of the contract, but LOTS of guys looking to get the big payday with out the huge offers may be sold on idea getting the spotlight with the “New Kings” and might take short money for a year. With Ron and the New Coach putting on a unified front they might be key in landing a top talent.
- Use the “New Direction” to help cover for the dumping of current players with out reducing their trade value by making it clear that they just are not working out.
- Parlay excitement about the “New Look Kings” into excitement for a stadium deal that works for the people of Sac AND the Maloofs.
