highlights of reke at memphis (his jumper)

I still see him kicking a leg out, fading away.

A lot of people have "odd form" and it works for them, but clearly this form, or something, isn't working for reke.

Part of the problem with highlights and clips is that it doesn't show the airballs and the plain embarrassing bricks. Every shooter has bad shots.

That says he was a 27.4% shooter from the college 3 point line. He's right around that from NBA 3 point line, so I wouldn't say his shot has regressed from his college days, but it also hasn't improved significantly. That's fine. Some players who specialize at penetrating take a long time to develop a good long-range shot (Jason Kidd) and some players never develop that shot (Andre Miller). The big question is, which way will Tyreke develop. Personally, I don't think he HAS to develop an amazing jumper. I would actually prefer to see him get a good post-up midrange game to take advantage of his size and strength. Leave the 3 point bombs to the role players.

Provided of course, the team doesn't expect him to play SF.

The problem for Reke is peoples expectations. After his rookie year i remember people saying "if he gets a jumper, he's the new Lebron" then after Derek Rose went off, everyone started comparing him with reke.

just because people want him to be the next rose/lebron doesn't mean he's capable.

Everyone can look good in a highlights video on Youtube. That doesn't prove anything.

yeah i know but he he looks like he was shooting his shot with more confidence. He's is pulling up for 3 beyond the line like it's nothing. He looked more confident and this season until recently he looks scared to shoot. He does have that leg kick a bit but he wasnt fading away like we seen him do. I think his shot has looked better recently and hope he can improve over the summer so that he and this team can take the next step.

Here is the difference and why form is important. High School and college play limited amount of games during the week. They don't have back to backs and 3 games in 4 nights scenarios. The better your form the more consistent your shot. With a fade away the more tired a player gets the more the shots fall short.

Ditto! You nailed it. The simpler the movement in a jumpshot, the easier it is to duplicate it over and over again. And the less effort it takes. It's pretty hard to duplicate falling away exactly the same way every time. Or kicking your leg out every time, although some very good shooters are guilty of that, including one Reggie Miller. The problem with Tyreke's shot, is that he had mutiple hitches in it. The irony is, that he's turning into a very good freethrow shooter. Why? Because he replicates it exactly the same way every time.

To give you a crude example. Anyone thats ever learned to ski, usually starts out with the snowplow. And, it doesn't take long for you to be worn out using that as a skiing technique. But once you start to parallel ski, it becomes less work, and more fun. Poor example maybe, but it makes the point.

Can we go back to the time waaaaay last week when we have one thread for Tyreke discussion. The last three threads I have looked at have been about Tyreke. If someone thinks they have an original thought to express about him or his family, they are delusional.

i dont watch college bball so i never watched reke in college, but in these videos reke got a nice shot with some range to it. So y did he change it?

Anyone that watched Tyreke play at Memphis knows he was a terrible outside shooter. Looking like you have confidence is meaningless is you miss 75% of your shots. He has terrible form, and will never be a good outside shooter until he fixes it. And, it is fixable. Difficult! But fixable! It requires a lot of very hard work, under the watchful eyes of a good shooting coach.

All my thoughts originate from me! Does that count? :D
