Hederson at the #4 (A defensive stopper)

There is no reason not named Griffin or Rubio not to draft this kid because of the talent and potential and hes a great kid. Can't make a better pick when you know exactly what you are getting, unlike the spaniard and some players who had only 1 year of college. I would draft Gerald because he would be a steal at 5 million a year, and it will become very lucrative when he starts to play. If we are smart we pick the best player available, and since griffin is gone, we should swoop up this kid.

There are already cons to go with some of his strengths--he's an NBA athlete, but that's not enough to distinguish him from the athletic wings that the NBA already possesses--his lack of height will limit him here. He can slash, but he can't handle or change direction well--so he's really limited here in halfcourt sets. Most of all, he's not a good passer for even the shooting guard spot, so he's a 6'4" SF. The lack of height may affect him defensively, but he's very fundamentally sound, disciplined, athletic and amasses many steals and blocks. So really, I expect the offense to be rather ordinary, but the defense, if he puts his work into it, can be stellar. Think Tony Allen or Ruben Patterson, although he probably uses his smarts well and is less physical.

He's productive offensively for the Blue Devils (17 ppg in 28 mpg) and has played lockdown defense this year, but I have real questions about how he's going to get his points in the league. Maybe a shorter Dahntay Jones, another former Duke player. Notice my comparisons are mostly to role players...because that's who he probably is. He's most likely 1st round pick due to his current production and the past hype he's received, but when we get to long term projections I'm not jumping up and down--the lack of height, the lack of great range of the jumpshot, the lack of handles, the lack of passing ability are more than enough to hold him down to some degree. Jackie Manuel (6'5" SF from UNC) had a similar athletic and physical profile, and the defensive pedigree, but he was far less skilled offensively and went undrafted. I'm not sure how Henderson can distinguish himself offensively here, and really I'm sort of surprised how he may even be a mid-1st rounder.

Another thing--I know people think he's way better than Dahntay Jones, but Jones averaged 17 ppg, 5 rpg, 47% FGs, 39% 3FGs with a high rate of free throw attempts in Duke. If you look at Henderson's college numbers, they're just relatively the same in almost every way--granted I think Henderson's the better passer, but he was also the worse three point shooter, so that trade off isn't too good. Anyway, they both were known as scorers with solid defensive chops outside of college. And you take the fact that Jones was 6'6", and Henderson, while more athletic, is 6'4-5"ish, then there might be a bigger problem--this exacerbates his limitations in finishing and defending bigger players well in the NBA, two of his supposed strengths, and to top that all off with his lack of ballhandling skill and deep range we may just be talking about a 6'4" defensive roleplaying SF all the way. I think he's smart and heady to carve a niche as a specialized role player who can be sporadically solid offensively, but he's definitely not a star and shouldn't be drafted by us at all--he should go to a playoff team or a team that was near in getting to the playoffs last year--sounds like Charlotte is that team.

Why wouldn't we want a undersized shooting gurad with a bad shot and a bad handle who had a disapointing college career?
 
Sounds great. We can probably get him at the #31 or in the 2nd round. Anything higher would be absurd.
 
okay ill allow this today. But when he actually performs on Sports Center every other night, you guys will all have to live with the comments. I gots the eye for talent, and he has a ceiling comparablee to Wade's.
 
Yea, but someone is gonig to get picked and overpayed at the 4 spot, we might as well pick the player with the potential to draw the most fans and sports center highlights.
