Typically, if you do your job really, really well, you get a promotion. Or you get a raise. Or at the very least, you get to keep your job.

But that didn't happen in Miami as the Heat fired its season ticket sales staff after the team sold out of season tickets. Ouch.

In a statement, the team confirmed the terminations Friday afternoon, saying that with an "exhausted'' inventory of season-tickets "we no longer require a season ticket sales team to sell tickets.''

Cold, but makes sense business wise. Season tickets will sell themselves for the next few years. Two monkeys and a stick could have sold them all this year.

Glad I wasn't the only person who saw this. Just cold.

Couldn't you have repurposed them into ticket holder customer service peeps and then phased them on out or into other areas?

Was wondering the same thing, but usually sales people are treated a bit different than salary employees from my experience.

That's just wrong, man...This may bring me some flack on the board, but the Heat just replaced the Lakers as my hated team. I still hate the Lakers, but if it comes down to a Heat-Laker final, I'd have to support the Lakers.

Sales jobs have such a high turnaround rate. There's a reason why a lot of sales jobs pay commission only. You know why? Because they get paid very well. But it's also a cut throat business. I have so many friends who do sales. Whether it's BtoB or loans or real estate it's always the same. They may get the can or quit and move on to the next one. Why people think it's so cold is beyond me. These guys wanna make good money. Demoting them to a ticket sales customer service rep is not gonna help them. They'll find another sales job.
