Spencer Hawes will wear #31. Not that this is necessarily the biggest news of the year or necessarily worthy of its own thread, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to post it.

Previous Kings to wear #31 are:

Duane Causwell, Dick Gibbs, Conner Henry, Joe McBride, Larry McNeill, Scot Pollard, Jamal Sampson, Jack Twyman and Richard Washington.

I heard that Hawes was on the same highschool team as Martell Webster of Portland and that Hawes and Kevin Durant are real good friends. They both played AAU ball together.

Confused me, since I know Twyman's jersey hangs in Arco as retired. It's number 27 that is retired. Maybe Twyman wore #31 earlier with the team?

Twyman wore #31 in 62-66. Before that, he wore #27. In 1960 he was wearing #27 when he scored 59 points in one game, a record that still stands today. I'm guessing that's why they retired the #27.

BTW? Twyman spent his entire 11-year career with the Royals/Kings franchise.

TY. I knew he spent his whole career with the franchise. Sounds like a great guy, too, to be such a great friend to Stokes. Impressive player and even a more impressive human being.:)

I'd rather he picked #21 for the obvious comparisons :)

Welcome to the Kings, #31 Spencer Hawes, I hope we'll go a long way together.

Too bad he took Scotty's #, we could have brought him back as a free agent and had some real bangin' going on in the paint. ;)

I kid, I kid.

I personally am very glad he DIDN'T pick #21. I don't want to see that number in Arco again until it's in the rafters.

But I digress...

# 31 seems to be a little weird looking for a big, more like for guards and sf's but hey it could work.

Well if you take a look at the former Kings to wear the number, a lot of them were bigs themselves (in fact I'm rather not sure you'd want to associate yourself wiht Duane Causewell as a Kings center, but hey, guess you can at least have the number all to yourself.
