And you also strongly argued against drafting Drummond as if he did not have any talent. You actually predicted he would be another Thabust and look where Drummond is now.
How could you be so wrong about Drummond?
Are you credible enough that we should believe your insinuation that Thabeet is a bust not even worthy of consideration as a low-cost end of the bench center?
If we are okay with bringing in a Casspi as an end of bench cheap player, we should also consider bringing in Thabeet. Right now we only have Cousins and Thompson who can play center. If Thompson gets traded the situation will be worse. I wish we could pick-up a more capable center for insurance, but there is hardly any centers out there significantly better and that will come cheaper than Thabeet. (Oh, wait....maybe BJ Mullens?)
Thabeet right now is a bust considering he was picked 2nd overall in 2009 NBA draft. He did not become an Olajuwon or a Shaq. But as a low-cost end of the bench player, Thabeet can at least give you 2.4 Blocks per 31.5 MPG.
I can't speak for Gary, but the majority of us that argued against drafting Drummond never said that he wasn't talented or didn't know how to play the game. We questioned his desire. In highschool, and also in college at UCONN, he just disappeared in games, and he appeared uninterested. It was my opinion at the time, that I thought it was too big a gamble to use a high draft pick on him. However, if I were picking down in the first round, then I'd probably take a flyer on him. Now in the case of Drummond, I was wrong. It's not the first time, and won't be the last, but all you can do is make your judgement based on what you see on the court prior to the draft.
Thabeet is an entirely different case. He just has no feel for the game, and isn't as athletic as one might think. He's just a terrible pick and roll defender, and many players just lure him away from the basket, and take him off the dribble. He is in fact, aside from blocking shots, not that good a defender. To be in the league as long as he has, and still not be able to break out from being the guy that's sent down to the D-League on a regular basis speaks for itself.
