Grades v. Wolves 03/14/10

Bricklayer

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Okay, well...no poll since I forgot to do one and couldn't figure out an easy one anyway. Player of the game was a foregone conclusion, most questions about us looked moot for the evening -- as badly as Portland outclassed us last time out, we outclassed the Wolves this time through.

However, there will still be a theme, inspired by Forbes' annual issue, so theme = Houses of the Rich Guys

Boxscore

Greene ( A- ) -- as much as Reke had the absolute monter game, Donte had the really really good one in support. And its important for him too. Not for any awards, but to firmly establish himself as a major player for next season. took him a while to get fully into gear though. Started off taking a hard foul on the break that sent him crashing to the floor and to the line, where he hit both. Shaky drive and dish to Landry while still looking a tad out of control. Offensive foul on the drive. Missed a straight on jumper. Started his second with a little jumper out of the out of bounds play, stripped a ball from the Wolves on the break to save a hoop, but did most of his damage after half. Starte the third with a strong d-board. Dribbled to an open spot and knocked down the jumper. Strong take right and pullup. Knocked down the three from the Reke kick. Then next time down the floor got out on the break and again Reke fed him for the alley oop dunk, and played a major role in our third quarter blowout. Then a liitle dribbkle into space and hit. IN his final minutes missed the side J, but made a nice pass from up top to Landry in the post. Then got a tip follow on a Hawes miss, and finished his night with a nice little spinning hook thing. Racked up 19pts on 8-11 shooting, 8reb 3ast 1blk, and did it all in 29 minutes. Snazzy evening.

Paul Allen's place -- since he owns an NBA team and all. One of the surprising things about billionarie's homes is how often they are really ot that much more amazing than a mere multi multi millionaire's home. When you get down to it, how much room can you really use before its all just ostentation? In Allen's case he's got a 10,000 square foot mansion, full Olympic pool, full NBA sized gym, 400 feet of shoreline along Lake Washington, and that special boat, which has that big flat top becuase it doubles as a helipad. All quite nifty, but not the Taj Mahal.

Landry ( C ) -- modest night -- active if not horribly eficient start and then just really not needed as we blew the Wolves out. Short with his first jumper. Called for and knocked down a littler jumper from Greene. Got a steal on defense. Fouled and hit both FTs. Not able to slow Jefferson early as he was the only Wolves player remotely hurting us. Good drive and finish in traffic over big ole Jawai. Drove into a jumpball situation. Little one handed hooky type thing in the paint. Got a block helping on Jawai. Strong move in the post, but ball popped out. In the 2nd got blocked on the cut from Reke. Not on the glass early, but finally began to rack up a few boards late in the half. Missed the tip attempt at the buzzer. Started the 3rd with a layup off a nice Beno baseline feed. Layup in the post from a Greene feed. Late offesnive foul trying to post up, but obviously did not matter. 13pts 6rebs on 5-13 shooting. Not horrible, but missed more thna he normally does and just a shrug while the kids did their thing.

Michael Dell's compund -- I have been studying pictures of this place, dubbed "The Castle" by locals for its high walls -- trying to figure it out, because frankly, it looks pretty ****ty. Is that dead yellow grass surrounding half of it? And the main body looks like a 1950s apartment complex. And what's wiht the big artless awning stuck on one end? I am sure its extravagently nice if you get inside, but not my idea of Shangri-la. Maybe in a few decades after the trees grow in or something.

Hawes ( B ) -- Nothing amazing here, but good solid minutes. Hey, he outplayed Ryan Hollins! So, um, yay! In the early going blocked a Brewer drive nicely, then hit a jumper off a Reke feed. Missed the long J. Blew a layup inside. Missed the jumper to start the third. Got another block and was active on defense. Took feed after feed fdrom Reke late in the quarter, with mixed results. Dunk off the dropoff from Reke. Blew another finish around the rim from Reke. Knocked down the side jumper from Reke. You get the idea. O-reb and finish +1. Missed a tip. Good offensive board. Picked in traffic before heading to the bench to let JT go most of the way in the garbage minutes.

Larry Ellison -- and his 8,000 square foot faux Japanese palace down in the South Bay Area, complete with privately owned lake, two waterfalls, two bridges, a guest home, and three cottages. Oh, and he's moving to Malibu after arguing that the estate, which he built over the last decade, is functionally obsolete (this done so he could save $3mil on taxes).

Udrih ( D ) -- well...completely unnecessary in this one obviously, and for the first time in a long time just really struggled. Except we blew them out so badly that you just did not notice much until the final quarter when the giant lead was eroded down. Was short on his first jumper, but dribbled into a little opening in the paint and hit the short little jumper for what would be his only hoop of the night. Missed a corner jumper as he msised jumepr after jumper on Reke kicks that on a normal night could have landed the kid wiht 15+ assists, and picked up two early fouls and left without much early impact. In the 2nd delivered a nifty pass inside to JT for the foul. Bad pass turnover. Missed a little jumper, then another from the corner. Steal along the baseline. Missed the three. Nice baseline feed. Blew another assist foir Rek on the missed three. Took a hard foul late. The numbers -- 1-8Fg 2pts 1reb 1ast 2TO -- say even worse than this, but did think he made a few nice plays, and his struggles, maybe due to taking a major backseat to Reke, really mattered not at all. So just going to go D here. Maybe his worst statistical game as a starter, but other than Reke's assist totals, didn't hurt anything for us.

Mark Cuban's estate -- appropriately big house and all, but are these guys too cheap to spring for sprinklers or what?

Evans ( A+ ) -- heh, what are you going to say? This was spectacular. I A+'d Reke's first career triple double because it was a huge milestone achievement for a 20yr old player chasing the ROY award. But this one was considerably more dominant. This was the full on superstar game in all aspects. Started with a d-board, but traveled as he had to hop skip around a guy running under him. A side note on Reke's rebounding: Marc Stein was kind enough to do the research and note in his power rankings this morning that the Kings are 10-3 in games where Reke grabs at least 8 rebounds. So Rodman away kid. Stepped into a three right out of the timeout -- and that of course was the other big difference tonight, the jumper looked on all night, even when it missed. Another strong d-board, then an equally strong o-reb off a Hawes miss. Missed a three, but again was right online witg it. Drive and fouled hard by Jawai. Hit both FTs and was 7-7 on the night. Missed a flip on the break -- probably should have kicked to Noc who was open int he corner. Accelerated and exploded to the rim for the layup. Got fouled in the post and hit both. Then got the d-board, and a full court explosion for the finish +1, which he hit. Spin drive and kick to Noc for the three to close the quarter with 12pts 4rebs. In the 2nd missed another standstill three, but it was still online, not that prayer knuckleball we've been seeing of late. Then an amazing spinning slip layup. Pulled up and smoothly drained a jumper on the move. Kept kicking to teammates, but it was miss after miss so jsut took care of things himself. Stepped back out of the post situation and hit another jumper. Another hesitation dribble and finsih +1. Then another explosive finish +1 with 31 seconds to go in the half, and had already racked up 24 points before the break. Began the third with a nice drive and dish to Hawes for the dunk. Set people up again and again in the third as he switched gears from scorer to distributor as the Wolves keyed on him, and sometimes his teammates even hit them. Bounced in the three after they just refused to guard him out that far. Another little jumper, as the inside/out was all going. Simple little dish to Cisco for his 9th assist. Picked off a pass in the open court. Bad pass turnover. Started the 4th, left in probably to go for that triple double. Missed a little flip, got the o-reb,and missed the follow. Little dish to JT for the jumper+1. D-board, up the court and the kick to Noc in the corner for the three had him up to 8rebs and 11ast. Missed a three, grabbed one rebound as he and Cisco both went up for it, and Cisco widely drew back and let Reke have it. And was all set to grab the triple double rebound as he and Casspi both went up for it...and Casspi ripped it away in a play that has inspired some chatter. Went to the bench for the last time soon therafter, one rebound shy of his second triple double in a week. Just a dominant performance with a LeBron 29pt 9reb 11ast 2stl on 10-19 shooting line, so easy A+.

Mukesh Ambani's tower of power -- this has been oft in the news of late -- Mukesh Ambani, 5th richest man in the world, is a few months from finishing contruction on the richest "home" in the world. He is going to be moving into his very own 27 story skyscraper outside of Mumbai, worth a cool $1billion.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bench

Cisco ( C- ) -- quiet game for Cisco. Along with Beno, two of our normal contributors just did very little, and it didn't matter at all. Some good defense on the break early but nothing else until the 2nd. Missed the three on the Reke kick, but recovered to get back and save a hoop with a block on Gomes. Went to the bench with few numbers after banging his elbow. In the 3rd again missed a three on a Reke kick, but then knocked down the side jumper to notch Reke his 8th assist. Showed saavy that Omri could learn form in the 4th when he and Reke both went up for a board, and Cisco, realizing who it was, quickly pulled down his arms as Reke grabbed his 9th. Quiet, nothing game here statistically for Cisco, and that demands a lower grade. Shot only 2-7, 0-4 from 3pt land 4pts. But made several good hustle plays on defense, and as has been noted, did not hurt us wiht so many other weapons firing.
BILL+GATES+HOME.jpg

Bill Gates' compound -- well..now you are headed toward slightly extravagent. In Medina Washington, I think again on Lake Washington. let's see, you have a 66,000 square foot superstructure, extending on 4 levels above and below ground. You have a 1000 square foot dining room that seats 24 of your best friends. A full sized state of the art underground theater, a 60' underground swimming pool, a 2500 square foot gym, because its pretty obvious from Gates' buffness that he is in there all the time, heated walkways and driveways, and becuase he's the ultimate tech geek, visitors all get to wear lapel pins that automatically adjust the temperature, lighting, and ambient music in whatever room they are according to their preferences. No idea what happens if there is more than one person in the room. Thumb fight for it?

Thompson ( B+ ) -- good highly efficient game for Jason. Facing no pressue he never freaked out, never rushed, never did anythign dumb, and just hit his shots, worked the boards, and was steady all game. Entered and immediately got a d-board. To the line after the loose ball foul by Jawai. Hit both. Good board work in the first stint. In the second a steal on defense to start a break. Hit the baseline jumper. Took Jefferson right to the hoop for the layup, but then got scored on right back by Jefferson in the post the other way. Breakaway dunk on a Casspi feed ahead. Blocked a shot inside, but the Wolves got it back and finished. Offensive foul trying to post. Fouled inside off the nifty Beno pass. Worked most of the 4th quarter garbage minutes. Little side jumper +1 from Reke, and got Reke his 10th assist. Missed a late jumper for his only miss of the night. Not sure his minutes were important enough to go any higher with this grade -- you didn't really notice him racking up the stats. But given the things we normally notice Jaosn for, not noticing him sometimes can be the best sign. Just took care of business and was a definite help whenever he was out there.
jordan-house.jpg

MJ's house -- remember when I saw this a few years back thinking that it was nciely laid out. Not so sure now, although it all still does make sense. Basketball, tennis, and a putting green. Think an indoor basketball court too for winters -- probably that rectangular structure across form the outdoor court. Main entrance, parking, pond/lake thingie, visitor "cottages" (larger than your home). Think his mom lives in one of them, although that would be a bit too close for my mom, thanks. All of this for being good at bouncing a ball.

Noc ( B ) -- the minutes bouncing around continued for Noc as well, and this time out he played well. Canned the three from the Reke kick to close the first. Nice swooping take to the hoop to begin the 2nd. Good offensive board. Hustle follow on the break. Missed the three. Was helping on the glass as well, and a good first stint in all ways. Pullup jumper. Missed the open three on the Reke kick. Missed the scoop to close the half. Back near the end of the third and missed the shot to close the quarter and briefly delay Reke's 10th assist. Began the 4th mising a jumper from Casspi. Knocked down the three from Reke, and a very solid 12pt 6reb in 21+min outing.

Casspi ( B ) -- Played better this time out. Did make the one little courtesy mistake that had Reke shaking his head, but showed more life than he has in some time. After coming in in the second he even finally canned a three. That's cause for celebration anymore. Steal from Hollins and got it ahead to JT for the breakawy diunk. Missed the side jumper floating left. Played right through the garbage minutes of the 4th, and played well. Was short on the layup, got the o-reb, missed the follow, got it again and hit it. Nort hot so much as persistent. Running shot across the middle and mised, but again got the o-reb and finished it. Stole FReke's 10th reb in the mid 4th. Hit the side jumper. A lot of lively passes in the 4th as well. Not enough to say he is back. But certainly a good sign going forward.
warren-buffetts-house.jpg

Warren Buffet's "modest" home -- Notable in that its the same home that Buffet has lived in for over 50 years now, and bought back in 1958 for $31,500. No mansion for him, although attaching a "modest" tag to a 6,000 square foot house is a bit much.

Udoka ( INC ) -- 42 seconds of bliss.
trumptwr.jpg

Trump Tower -- this is the Turmp Tower in New York with its famous terraced shrubbery. I walked by it only a couple of days ago. Up in the penthouse lurks The Donald, like a big ole bat with a rug on its head.

Dorsey ( INC ) -- In for the very final minutes. Tipped a ball to Casspi, got it back from Casspi, was fouled, and laid it in. Split the FTs, which is about all you can hope for there. Missed a layup. Missed another one against pressure that may have been blocked. Kind of fugly, true garbagetime stuff.
0309_billie-homes-steve-jobs-wooside-ca_485x340.jpg

Steve Jobs' booboo -- Steve Jobs has been a very bad boy. He bought this 17,000 square foot 1926 spanish colonial mansion with plans to tear it down, but turns out its historic and the neighbors won't let him. So he moved out and there it sits dilapidated.

May ( INC ) -- just the very end of garbagetime. Do not even rmemeber the one hoop.
9_0308homes.jpg

Michael Bloomberg gets skinny -- see the skinny one in the middle? That's where New York's billionaire mayor lives. Hey, space is at a premium in these parts you know? Of course it ain't THAT small -- 7,500 square feet in there. And its in the city -- Upper East side facing the park, so hey, location, location, location.

And that is what the future looks like once Tyreke has a consistent jump shot. Watch out now.....

It was a joke but if this ever becomes a Evans vs Casspi thing (which has been brought up in the past) Casspi will gone before you can even think about it.

I dont think that there is a Casspi Reke thing.
I just think that some members in this forum are so thirsty for success that they think that a tripple double will change anything for us right now.
Who cares about a tripple double- Reke had a great game anyway-look at his monster stats!

Its funny that a few weeks ago Casspi was the future and now he is being concidered the worst player on our team.

You sure seem to care a bunch about it. People are commenting on him taking a rebound away from Reke and on how poorly he's been playing lately, not calling him the worst player on the team. I thing you're a little over sensitive about Casspi here. Relax.
And yes, I am Thirsty for Success!:D

You will get enough success in the next years (dont worry not because of Casspi):D

We have success this year. Triple-doubles for our new star;
Great performance like the first 3 quarters tonight;
We may not win a championship, but we sure can enjoy the little things. Tonight I was rooting for Tyreke to have a triple-double.

I like Casspi. I look forward to having him in a Kings uni for many years, so stop this passive aggressive nonsense.

A lot of fans care, that's the only meaningful thing left and watch for this season. Keep stat padding Reke! but don't overdo it, leave some room for the ping pong.

Not really. Look at the game thread..

Just looked at the game thread, you weren't kidding. That rebound came right to Omri and he didnt see Tyreke coming either. There's no reason to be upset at Omri. If you want to blame anyone for Tyreke not getting the triple double, you can blame Westpaul for not playing him just another minute so he could get that last rebound.

Hawes had a good game. 8/8/2blk doesn't look too good on a boxscore, but he was agressive defending the basket, and had +25 on the floor.

Sometimes you can think something is a joke, post it and find out not everyone saw the game and would immediately understand what was being said...

As far as even hinting about a Casspi v. Evans thing, I would hope Kings fans would have learned there's no joy in even thinking about something like that. I'd honestly like to think we won't be pitting one player against another. We've got way too much to be excited about.

;)

The shame here was not that Tyreke didn't get a triple double, but instead that he didn't end up with 17 assists.

I guess I just see things differently. I don't think there's a need for any kind of tsk-tsking or assessment of shame. Evans continues to prove he's the only real ROY candidate...even on nights when his teammates have difficulty in helping him. I was extremely impressed with how he made sure to get his teammates involved, including the set-up for the incredible flying Donte one-handed slamdown.

The kid gets it. And every Kings fan on the planet is going to benefit.

I think Grant and Jerry got a little carried away. The team shot the ball pretty damn well during the first 3 quarters. They can't make ALL the shots. It's not like Steve Nash's teammates score on every pass they get from him.

No but it was just weird. The team was making EVERYTHING except when Evans passed it to them..and they were WIDE open!

Actually, that one I really didn't know what to think about. Tyreke very rarely passes the ball on a fast break when he can get to the hoop himself, and this one happened just about the time when it was starting to be obvious he needed to rack up more assists for the triple double. I really don't have anything to say against that, but I wouldn't really credit him with the "trying to involve his teammates" points for that particular play.

Tyreke actually did have 10 reb, for whatever reason he was not credited with an offensive reb off his own miss and a Jason Thompson tip (to keep the ball away from the Twolves and in the direction to 'Reke) early in the 4th Q (unless I'm not understanding the rules right as to who should get credited)

09:46 Evans Jump Shot: Missed
09:45 Thompson Rebound (Off:1 Def:5)
09:43 Evans Jump Shot: Missed

F to Grant and Jerry for even throwing out the option of 'Reke being insterted back into the game after he was taken out just to get the 10th reb.
