Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Okay, well...no poll since I forgot to do one and couldn't figure out an easy one anyway. Player of the game was a foregone conclusion, most questions about us looked moot for the evening -- as badly as Portland outclassed us last time out, we outclassed the Wolves this time through.
However, there will still be a theme, inspired by Forbes' annual issue, so theme = Houses of the Rich Guys
Boxscore
Greene ( A- ) -- as much as Reke had the absolute monter game, Donte had the really really good one in support. And its important for him too. Not for any awards, but to firmly establish himself as a major player for next season. took him a while to get fully into gear though. Started off taking a hard foul on the break that sent him crashing to the floor and to the line, where he hit both. Shaky drive and dish to Landry while still looking a tad out of control. Offensive foul on the drive. Missed a straight on jumper. Started his second with a little jumper out of the out of bounds play, stripped a ball from the Wolves on the break to save a hoop, but did most of his damage after half. Starte the third with a strong d-board. Dribbled to an open spot and knocked down the jumper. Strong take right and pullup. Knocked down the three from the Reke kick. Then next time down the floor got out on the break and again Reke fed him for the alley oop dunk, and played a major role in our third quarter blowout. Then a liitle dribbkle into space and hit. IN his final minutes missed the side J, but made a nice pass from up top to Landry in the post. Then got a tip follow on a Hawes miss, and finished his night with a nice little spinning hook thing. Racked up 19pts on 8-11 shooting, 8reb 3ast 1blk, and did it all in 29 minutes. Snazzy evening.
Paul Allen's place -- since he owns an NBA team and all. One of the surprising things about billionarie's homes is how often they are really ot that much more amazing than a mere multi multi millionaire's home. When you get down to it, how much room can you really use before its all just ostentation? In Allen's case he's got a 10,000 square foot mansion, full Olympic pool, full NBA sized gym, 400 feet of shoreline along Lake Washington, and that special boat, which has that big flat top becuase it doubles as a helipad. All quite nifty, but not the Taj Mahal.
Landry ( C ) -- modest night -- active if not horribly eficient start and then just really not needed as we blew the Wolves out. Short with his first jumper. Called for and knocked down a littler jumper from Greene. Got a steal on defense. Fouled and hit both FTs. Not able to slow Jefferson early as he was the only Wolves player remotely hurting us. Good drive and finish in traffic over big ole Jawai. Drove into a jumpball situation. Little one handed hooky type thing in the paint. Got a block helping on Jawai. Strong move in the post, but ball popped out. In the 2nd got blocked on the cut from Reke. Not on the glass early, but finally began to rack up a few boards late in the half. Missed the tip attempt at the buzzer. Started the 3rd with a layup off a nice Beno baseline feed. Layup in the post from a Greene feed. Late offesnive foul trying to post up, but obviously did not matter. 13pts 6rebs on 5-13 shooting. Not horrible, but missed more thna he normally does and just a shrug while the kids did their thing.
Michael Dell's compund -- I have been studying pictures of this place, dubbed "The Castle" by locals for its high walls -- trying to figure it out, because frankly, it looks pretty ****ty. Is that dead yellow grass surrounding half of it? And the main body looks like a 1950s apartment complex. And what's wiht the big artless awning stuck on one end? I am sure its extravagently nice if you get inside, but not my idea of Shangri-la. Maybe in a few decades after the trees grow in or something.
Hawes ( B ) -- Nothing amazing here, but good solid minutes. Hey, he outplayed Ryan Hollins! So, um, yay! In the early going blocked a Brewer drive nicely, then hit a jumper off a Reke feed. Missed the long J. Blew a layup inside. Missed the jumper to start the third. Got another block and was active on defense. Took feed after feed fdrom Reke late in the quarter, with mixed results. Dunk off the dropoff from Reke. Blew another finish around the rim from Reke. Knocked down the side jumper from Reke. You get the idea. O-reb and finish +1. Missed a tip. Good offensive board. Picked in traffic before heading to the bench to let JT go most of the way in the garbage minutes.
Larry Ellison -- and his 8,000 square foot faux Japanese palace down in the South Bay Area, complete with privately owned lake, two waterfalls, two bridges, a guest home, and three cottages. Oh, and he's moving to Malibu after arguing that the estate, which he built over the last decade, is functionally obsolete (this done so he could save $3mil on taxes).
Udrih ( D ) -- well...completely unnecessary in this one obviously, and for the first time in a long time just really struggled. Except we blew them out so badly that you just did not notice much until the final quarter when the giant lead was eroded down. Was short on his first jumper, but dribbled into a little opening in the paint and hit the short little jumper for what would be his only hoop of the night. Missed a corner jumper as he msised jumepr after jumper on Reke kicks that on a normal night could have landed the kid wiht 15+ assists, and picked up two early fouls and left without much early impact. In the 2nd delivered a nifty pass inside to JT for the foul. Bad pass turnover. Missed a little jumper, then another from the corner. Steal along the baseline. Missed the three. Nice baseline feed. Blew another assist foir Rek on the missed three. Took a hard foul late. The numbers -- 1-8Fg 2pts 1reb 1ast 2TO -- say even worse than this, but did think he made a few nice plays, and his struggles, maybe due to taking a major backseat to Reke, really mattered not at all. So just going to go D here. Maybe his worst statistical game as a starter, but other than Reke's assist totals, didn't hurt anything for us.
Mark Cuban's estate -- appropriately big house and all, but are these guys too cheap to spring for sprinklers or what?
