Don't Make Me Use The Bat

Barnes ( B ) -- another hustling game from Matt, and he showed that extra ability he has to be a passer as well. At one point there looked like he might have an outside shot at his first career triple double. On the other hand, was just a bit off tongiht, and looked a tad wild at times. Put into an uncomfortable position of being a scorer, and missed nearly everything. Blew layups, missed open jumpers. Still made a hustling contribution in huge minutes.
Songaila ( B+ ) -- started slow, but came on strong in the third quarter and was a factor therafter. Clearly a peripheral player for us tonight, but provided general support for Brad and Mike both by hitting his jumper consistently in the second half and competing on the boards. Not an exciting game by Darius, but a solid one in support.
Miller ( A+ ) -- huge comeback game for Brad, and maybe we can just write off that mess last night at least until the next time we run into the Sonics. But almost got his A without a "+" because of what he did NOT do. Odd as it may sound to say such a thing, Brad tried to lose this game for us by NOT shooting enough. Too unselfish. And actually showing poor recognition of the team around him. With Bibby's shooting off Brad was easily the best shooter on the team for us, but didn't always seem aware of that and kept passing the ball off to guys who can't score and putting them in tough situations for them. But now onto what he DID do. Which was pretty much everything. We would have been lost without him. Mike was off with the shot, the rest of the guys are bench players and scrubs unused and unable to sustain offensive bursts. Had to be Brad, and he delivered. A monster game. Career night. And if he'd taken the extra shots he really should have, could easily have been a 40+ pt night.
Evans ( C+ ) -- looked more rusty than only 5 games off would indicate. Fumbled balls, really got his butt handed to him by JRich. Was better in the second half than the first, and began to give us some decent scoring punch. Hit a big three in OT when we looked like we danger of falling out of it.
Bibby ( B+ ) -- with basically the whole team sitting over on the sidelines in street clothes, all Mike did was come within 1 rebound of a triple double. Had one great offensive burst in the third quarter, but otherwise was a struggle with the shot. Directed things nicely down the stretch, but made a couple of mistakes in the final minutes of regulation which hurt us. Solid in OT though. For much of the night functioned as Brad's personal passing assistant, giving him the ball and encouraging him to shoot.
Martin ( D+ ) -- had me scratching my head again. Took another three, and missed it again. Did draw a foul inside and hit the FTs. Had trouble on the defensive side of the ball this time too.
Bradley ( B- ) -- earned him a spot in the shortened rotation with that good stint yesterday. Again showed some nice post ability.
House ( C+ ) -- came on late and gave us a little boost, but this being Eddie House, doesn't stop shooting even when he should.
Ostertag ( INC ) -- short first half stint, but generally had his minutes taken by Bradley, because Bradley can shoot a little no doubt. Hit a FT which alone might be worth an "A" for him if he had gotten enough minutes.

Adleman ( A ) -- not sure what else to give him on this night. Now down 4 of the top 6 players, we STILL come out and win. Mentioned before, there is one constant through all of the winning -- the guy who just had his option picked up. Really turned this game in the third quarter with the decision to switch to a zone defense against the crappy shooters on Golden State. Better to risk being beaten by Derek Fisher and Mike Dunleavy than for Richardson to drop 50 on you. Shaky execution down the stretch, but again, really only Brad and Mike had probably ever played that portion of an NBA game before.

I like those grades. Adelamn deserved an A especially when he called a time-out to rest his players. That was a good call. hey bricklayer, any way you can give an A++ to Brad Miller? ;)

#3
Glad to see Miller with A+ :)

I agree for the most part with all the other grades. I am thinking maybe Barnes should have a tad higher grade considering his situation but thats about it.

Good Grades , i would give Bibby a A , him and Miller just loaded the team on thier shoulders ... but hey im just excited about this gutsy win ... god we are running out of players , only 4 people off the bench :D

Eddie House and Kevin Martin drive me nuts.

"Fast" Eddie loves to shoot, despite seemingly not realizing he's off (2-7 tonight). Woulda given him a lower grade.

And Kevin...I dunno. He's been settling for the three latley, which isn't his specialty, and before that he was forcing drives into the teeth of other teams defense. I want to see him go midrange, as thats where I believe his game would excel.

fair enough grades

as for Kevin Martin on the defensive end...he had absolutely NO chance at guarding JRich...that was just a big joke...JRich must stronger a lot more explosive

tough win but we got it

Reminds me of our rotation in the playoffs last year. 4 people off the bench still comes up to a 9 man rotation, which isn't bad. The thing is that the bench players played so few minutes, that the rotation was effectively nonexistent. Brad played 50 minutes and had a career night, good for him; but we still need some of our starters back.

B-52!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good grades Brick, I know what you mean about Brad passing up shots(He's such a good shooter), but hey those other guys need to be able to knock shots down. I mean, he did shoot 22 times(something I didn't even think was possible!). Brad made everyone who questioned him today(on the radio) eat their words. Good Job Brad! After all you've done for us with other guys out, both last year and this year... I'll always believe in you... and everyone else should too.

I think an A or an A- would suit him best.
I don't know, I kind of like the B+ for Bibby, simply because for Bibby to get an A I would expect his shot to flow a little bit better than it did tonight. I didn't see the whole game, so I can't really say, but in the last 1 1/2 quarters I felt like he was missing a lot of shots he normally would make. Made some beautiful passes though.

i went to the game, so heres my grades

miller A+++++++ he was THE man. career high in points, 17 boards, 0 fouls ( after last night) he could have easily gone for over 40 seeing who was the guarding him. i was going NUTS when he hit that 3. that was awesome. jsut an awesome awesome performance out of the b-52 bomber

darius B+ looked good out there. got good looks, knocked em down. hada double double, always a good thing considering we are used to webber giving us double doubles everynight. i was having fun with darius, he'd be open and get the ball and i'd shout SHOOT!!!!! and he would, and it seemed like everytime i shouted it out, he would make it. maybe that sounds dorky, but i sure had fun with it :D

bibby either a B+++ or an A--- however you want to look at it. he was doing a little of everything out there, anything you come 2 rebound short of a triple double, thats a great performance. the only thing stopping a full A was the shooting %. i was a little ticked he didn't take the last shot, hell i even told my friend, i wish webber were here to take the last shot :D and i spent OT screaming eveytime someone got a rebound, going GET IT BIBBY!!!! my friend was doing the same thing. we were big time rooting for that triple double, i for the kings, he for bibby is on his fantasy team. great night for mike

barnes B+ had a ehh shooting night, but scored, and had numbers near a triple double, very nice.

evans B- looked rusty. i was screaming when he missed that oop jam. hit that HUGE 3 in OT ( another one that i screamed out SHOOT!) couldn't keep up with j-rich, but no one really could ( expect the free throw line hehehehe)

house: C did give bibby a few breathers, but chucked up crap, didn't do much.

tag:B he wasn't out there much, but hey he looked alright when he was. actually hit a free throw after i had declared he would miss both. also hit his only field goal. my friend and i were bummed as we were being the greg ostertag cheerleaders for the night. well we were able for a few minutes

special K: D OH and i was shouting out GO SPECIAL K!!!!!!!!! looked overmatched, didn't look all that great shooting. eh it's ok i guess. he is a rookie afterall.

i was very happy with the game. all the kings fans that showed up were AWESOME!!!! i had a guy with a bibby shirt on in front of me, had the bald head, headband and all. very nice. we were LOUD, lots of cheering for the kings. my fav play of the night was when that oooff foyle missed a wide open dunk. oh that was HILARIOUS!!!!!

GREAT WIN KINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kevin Martin's Grades

I disagree with the D/D+ scores given by two folks in this thread for Kevin Martin. I just got finished watching his nine minutes against the Warriors on the Comcast replay and here's what I saw:

Offense:
3 touches - pass/no shot opportunity
2 touches - pass/possible shot opportunity
1 touch - 3-point attempt/no good
1 touch - drive to the hole/ball stripped away (TO)
1 touch - alley oop/fouled on catch/no basket (2 FTs made)
1 touch - cut into the lane/received pass/fouled on shot
(no FTs awarded, but should have been)

9 touches in 9 minutes, but I don't think that Kevin was "excluded" on offense by his teammates.

Only 2 times - Martin was open and not fed the ball

Defense:
mostly guarded Calbert Cheaney, but later in 2nd it was JRich
(although Kings were switching frequently on screens)

Kevin on Cheaney:
was denied from receiving the ball and did nothing vs Kevin

Kevin on JRich:
2 touches- beat off the dribble
3 touches - defended well with resulting pass

1 rebound and 1 deflection resulting in a steal

I cannot say Kevin was sub-par on either end of the floor, and actually his overall defense was pretty good on both guys he guarded most of time. I also don't understand how anyone can say his shot didn't look too good tonight...he only took ONE official shot (the 3 pointer), was fouled on another (alley oop for dunk), and was fouled on a third that should have given him free throws as well (cut into the lane, but was incorrectly ruled to be before the shot).

A grade of B- to C+ was probably more in order, driven more by his defense.

When I found out that Cuttino was out...I got a bit worried like when we found out Webb was out mins before the Twolves game. I knew Mike AND Brad must have a good game to win tonight. As well the other Starters and bench. Glad to see all the players step up and do well.

I give both Brad and Bibby A+. With No Webb, Pedja, and Cuttino...we needed these 2 to step up and they did. I thought Bibby was the "Steve Nash" for the Kings. He was only 1 rebound away from a triple double. But he was the reason that really help the Kings come back in the game. He made some big plays, not to him but to his teammates. That back to back 3 was BIG. And Bibby had some amazing passes...especially the ones to Brad. Imagine if Bibby was out and House was in?? I'm not sure if House could have done what Bibby did.

Songaila deserve at least a A-. He is hitting those 'Miller' jumper consistently, especially one in OT. Clutch FT too. Just feel that he is so reliable for us, when we have unexperience players on the floor most of the night.

#21
This was an EXCELLENT game by Brad. So happy to see him having a great comeback game after a pretty bad night vs. Sonics.
This is actually pretty good oportunity fro Kings to experience paly without Pedja and Chris..... just in case some bad injuried happen in the playoffs (keeping fingers crosses it doesn't), at least the team will have that experience of having to dig deep and play together without the starters. We have few new bodies on this team this season and it is great for them to get used to playing guys who normally don't get too many minutes.
GO BRAD, GO TEAM............. and GO THE INJURED ONES and hopefully you are back soon!

Another STUD game for the boys!!!! Great win!

Mo should get his shooting touches back so no worry.

As for Edward, dude does shoot a lot for a scrub. :D

Oh yeah, Webber gets an "A" for trying to get the crowd into the game.

Webber was so funny and cute when he was holding one of his teammates jumpsuit shirt...:)

One Exception ...

Fair Grades there Bricklayer ...

I would give Darius an A+ .... his rebounds (11), his scoring (18), his defense, his energy, his hustle .... this guy LEAVES IT OUT THERE !!!

He hustles on both ends ... those 2 clutch free-throws at the end .... we all knew this guy was tired but he SWISHED those 2 crucial FT's

Does it show I'm partial to Darius ????

I'd bump Darius to an A, A- for coming up huge toward the end of the game. Nailed a couple shots from a bit outside his normal range that we wouldn't have won without.
No way Kevin deserves a D either. You could make an argument for a C if you factor in expectations, but I'd go with a B- after watching the tape.

I would say, base on expectation, Mo=Kevin in term of expectation. But if Mo gets a C+, then there's no way Kevin is going to get a B-

#27
Then Mo should get a B- too;) He looked a little rusty, but that was to be expected. I wasn't going to argue with his grade mostly because he got lit up defensively, and that last foul gave the W's a chance to tie at the line.
I'm an easy grader when they pull out a win like that.

Kevin is rapidly playing himself out of the rotation right now. Now we can play the blame shifting game all we want, but bottomline he is not producing much in his minutes. And more relevantly, is producing much less than Evans/Barnes/Mobley in their minutes. He needs another breakout game in the worst way, because right now its going to show real dedication to developing the kid for Rick to keep finding him minutes once Mobley is back. Evans and Barnes are just much more consistent contributors.

Darius is Darius. Does exactly what he's susposed to do, but a lot of his offense is really set out there for him on a golden platter by his teammates. He was clearly a peripheral player last night. Good solid numbers, and a couple of bursts, but not a game turner. I thought about an A-. But then I thought about the first half, about the level of the competition, and the fact the numbers came in an OT game, and decided no, not really. He played a solid game and definitely helped, but still just a footnote. As an aside these numbers are no longer that eye-opening for Darius either. I seriously believe that he'd be a threat to start for several Eastern Conference teams, and given the minutes I wouldn't be surprised to see him be able to put up an average of 12-13pts 7rebs if that ever happened.

#29
Given Webber's chronic injuries, I think we shall see a lot of Darius throughout the remainder of the season. I am glad he is so solid.

This statement has got my curiosity ...

Not sure what you mean by this ....

Sounds like, he wouldn't be as productive as he is if it weren't for his teammates.

Isn't that team ball ???

Darius moves WELL without the ball ... he cuts to the rim when the ball is outside, he follows the shots/ball to the hoop, he trails the player with the ball to the hoop, he rolls with the player with the ball to either draw the pass or draw the double-team, he keeps the ball alive on the offensive boards.

I'm just PROPPING-UP Darius ... he's my boy !!!
