It's the beginning of the season, we're barely 5 games in with a new team. I'd be impressed if Adelman knew what rotation he's going with. Give him a couple more games.

Good grades, Brick, for the best all around team performance this year - albeit against a surprisingly disinterested Denver squad. Nevertheless, solid team effort - transition defense was there, no easy points in the middle, decent offensive rhythm, and *shocker* nice bench performance. I glean more hope from this game than from anything I've seen this year, including pre-season.

Just what the doctor ordered:

Peja ( A- ) -- this is not really there in the numbers, but it needs to be said that this grade stems from Peja putting aside the lacy dress for a night and really playing his butt off. Many of the same drawbacks could be said about this game as of his previous ones, and once again he was absent in the 4th as we started to struggle. But the effort he put forth made ALL the difference, numbers or not. Got off to an excellent start, and for Peja anymore that means that the scoring was only the highlight, but not the whole story. Showed uncommon hustle for him, and made a couple of solidly aggressive drive attempts against short and portly Voshon Lenard. Its not all there in the stats, but in many ways did not look like the same player tonight -- was not shying from contact, was standing in on defense, lurking around for boards. Even delivered fouls on help defense and battled well against Melo when he was on him. The front heavy production, midrange numbers for him, and quiet fourth once again combine to bring down his grade a bit, but I thought of giving him the "A" anyway. Peja loses credit in these grades on an almost nightly basis for playing a soft prima donnaesque game -- never breaks a sweat for the team, never does the little things. Tonight, numbers or not, that was NOT so. He was out there working as hard as anybody, helping teammates, and generally being the real deal. In a lot of ways his best overall effort since Game 5 against the Sonics. With the key word being "effort".
...
I agree with your grades, but especially with these comments ^^.

THAT is the Peja we dream about; the Peja who isn't afraid to take a bit of a charge, the Peja who aggressively fights for the ball, the Peja who looks like he really wants to be an integral part of the team instead of just another name on the roster. THAT is the Peja we NEED and the Peja I would take up a collection for to make sure he stays.

I don't know what they said to each other in that team meeting, but I hope they can do it again if necessary. I saw more grit and determination AND team play on the court last night than I've seen in way too long.

THAT was Kings basketball, pure and simple. Sure, still a few more wrinkles to iron out and I'm not gonna start planning the parade quite yet, but the effort FROM the team last night was enough to warm this old fan's heart.

GO KINGS!!!

DITTO VF! But, what will it take for Peja to perform to this level on a consistent basis?!

Well, there is a deceptive thing going on a little bit though, and I thought of this while I was watching last night and it made me wince:

Peja really hustled last night. Brad too. And Bricklayer looked down and saw that it was good. But the thing is, I expect, and normally see, that kind of hustle out of ANY NBA player worth a damn (and not all are). It was nice to see our guys finally display it, but it doesn't make them exceptional. Doesn't make them superstuds that we couldn't possibly replace because they just work harder than anybody else. It just means that for a night they caught up with the rest of the league and actually played hard.

Their effort last night was hard to fault, and I have no interest in doing so. They worked hard and got it done. But its easy to actually let their normal wussines cause them to get too much credit now. For one night they come out with a bug up their butt and really work, and we go all atitter. Meanwhile, over in the corner is some guy who works his *** off EVERY night thinking that maybe he should slack off and be a lazy bum more often so that he'll get credit on those nights when he actually does his job. If our guys could play that hard every night (note: not holding my breath) we could cheerfully eliminate much of the "soft" proviso from the end of statements made about them, but Ben Wallaces they are not for doing no more than not getting outhustled for one night.

That's the Marshmellow structure turned monster from Ghostbusters.
Yes, it is indeed Mr. Stay-Puf, the Marshmallow Man. And he's wearing a gold Kings jersey...

HndsmCelt is predicting that if the Kings show they are indeed able to lock down the paint and play some defense, the character might change from something soft to something better suited to a defensive juggernaut.

"It's the Stay-Puft Marshallow Man. We used to roast Stay-Puft Marshmallows, by the fire at Camp Waconda."

"Ray has gone bye-bye, Egon."

...

"Come on, this guys cool. He's a sailor, he's in New York, if we get this guy laid, we won't have any trouble."

i f'ing love ghostbusters. hilariously awesome movie.

EXACTLY!!!!! That type of effort is what we EXPECT, and pay to see. Not something to throw a parade about because they show it for one game. I'm still bitter over opening night, when I saw us, up close and personal, get OUT-HUSTLED (especially Peja) time and time again.
