Garcia ( B- ) -- came out and hit his first two, including the classic Kings backcut, but then started to spiral into wildness again, and once again got into foul trouble. Still ended up with a respectable first half though. Started the second half with a classic bonehead play, throwing a really dumb attempt at an alley oop to Martin off an out of bounds play. But followed that up with aggressive energetic play for a nice little spurt there to open the quarter. Continues to have all kinds of struggles finishing, but his energy alone gave us a boost. That was kind of it though -- got a little loose in the 4th, and Rick went to Corliss instead for the steadier presence down the stretch. Overall, wild, but energetic. Not terrible for who and what he is.
Reef ( C- ) -- aggressive to start, and really the only guy seeming to get anything going early. But got quiet therafter despite having a major quickness edge on the Mavs' big centers who were switched over to guard him. May have been part of the problem though -- Dampier/Diop were too tall and long to consistently post, Dallas kept flipping into a zone to protect the middle, and so Reef was having to catch 18 feet out and try to drive to the hoop rather than working the low block. Did a little better job on the glass, but was absent late again. Did mix in a few nice interior passes. Just missed too many easy shots to sustain anything, and on a night when we looked like those old Vancouver teams with Reef and Bibby the only major options, Shareef was just unable to deliver.
Miller ( C- ) -- for about the first 5 minutes was controlling the game with his passing and things looked good, but had major major trouble with Dirk on the other end (see Rick's grade) and got into early foul trouble. Came back in the second and actually burlied up a bit, grabbed some boards and banged around. Unfortunately of course eventually resulting in his third foul. Started the second making hustle plays and despite very modest numbers was at least a sporadic factor inside. But completely disappeared down the stretch, and continued to get worked over by Dirk all game long whenever he was on him. Have to wonder if we were so scared of turning Dampier into another legendary center that we decided to "hide" Brad on Dirk instead. But whatever the reason, he never really had a chance against a guy as mobile as Nowitzki. This game also, BTW, continues Brad's career-long pattern as a King vs. Dallas -- for whatever reason, has never been effective against the Mavs.
Martin ( B- ) -- started off tentatively, made a few hustle plays but struggled to find his way on offense. But picked up the acitvity level therafter and ended with a solid first half making contributions in a variety of areas. Some mistakes and turnovers of course, but overall a decent effort. And that kind of continued right through the third quarter with Kevin doing a little fo the good and the bad, making plays to keep us in it, and mistakes to keep us from seizing control. Disappeared down the stretch though, which might be expected. Overall some nice moments sprinkled with some not so nice moments. Like Garcia, showed his inexperience. But also like Garcia gave us little bursts here and there to help.
Bibby ( C+ ) -- quiet start other than a couple of splashed in threes, but as we closed the game back late in the 2nd quarter Mike began to get aggressive and was the most assertive of our starters offensively. Somehow managed to come up with a grand total of zero assists on the night however, and it was mostly a one-dimensional scoring effort all game. Through three continued to hold us in it as our leading scorer, but got conspicuously quiet in the late game as Dirk took over and we had no answer. Kept on leaving Adrian Griffin open on the wings on rotation defense, and as usual stuggled with the quicker points as well.
Corliss ( A- ) -- offense disappeared during his early first stint as we lost our cutting ability and were unable to get Corliss on the mismatch. But eventually he started to work his way into things with the all reserve unit, and disrupted a few things by poking balls away on defense, grabbed a few boards, and generally turned in a solid if not spectacular first half. And during the second half played an important role as a steady veteran post player for us as we went to him repeatedly on his favorite baseline spot on the left block and he caused the Mavs problems.
Thomas ( C+ ) -- tried to stick with Dirk, and on one remarkable play stopped Dirk on two fakes, then got victimized when Dirk threw the ball inside and moved over to reset when Kenny turned his head. But maybe the focus on Dirk took away his focus in other areas, as he only managed to come down with one nice board in traffic. Had decent energy, and his offense looked good when he actually got an opening.
Hart ( INC ) -- brought a little energy, but did little else and was actually outperformed and outlasted by Ronnie Price out there. Makes you wonder if it could almost be a changing of the (backup point) guard for this team. Rick put both guys out together, Price showed better, and it was Ronnie, not Hart who got the second half call.
Price ( A- ) -- got the surprise (shock?) first half call instead of Skinner as we went to a mini-Hart/Price backcourt. And showed a little something. Brought good energy. Spotted up in the corner for threes. Showed good activity on defense. Got the 4th quarter reserve minutes in place of Hart and continued his strong play. One of those grades that might not be as high for an established player, but for Ronnie Price, a major breakthrough, and just like that may have played his way right into Jason Hart's minutes. Not spectacular, but maybe more importantly, was quite solid.

Adelman ( C+ ) -- some blase' grades for kind of a blase' game. We put forth a good effort all things considered, and the bench showed pretty well for once. But the Mavs weren't playing their A game, and we certainly weren't. Kind of just slugged it out with the better team turning to its better player to finally finish us off late. The encouraging thing would have to be the play of our three young guys -- Garcia, Martin, and Price -- who all showed flashes of the ability to contribute in this one. And Rick was very willing to use his bench this game with our disrupted lineup, and got solid performances from a number of people. Given the manner of our demise (we were Dirk'd to death) one puzzling coaching move kind of stands out for Rick -- we had Brad try to cover Dirk for long stretches, including some of the critical hits he made down the stretch. Huh? Reef would seem a MUCH more natural fit for that matchup -- tweener forward vs. tweener forward. But Brad is simply too slow. And ? coaching move #2 -- and unfortunately classic Rick anymore -- he played 9 of 11 available players. And the only two who did not play? Our two best rebounders and shotblockers in Skinner and Sampson . Career long problem Rick has had against Dallas. Never wants to use real bigs and instead plays their smallballing game. Even when, as tonight, the Mavs have gone more conventional and used true centers most of the night in Dampier and Diop. On the other hand, we looked ready to compete, which was good. Rick tested all the young guys and the bench, and made quick decisions who to go with, and who to bench. And I liked the way Rick mixed and matched in the 4th, and the feel he had for Garcia's on and off play. He also started the 4th quarter with a nifty double post attack with Corliss and Thomas both in there and posting on both sides of the lane. Something new, and an effective use of two benchers who often look out of place in the normal offense. But down the stretch we once again collapsed. Looked unorganized, and unsure where to turn to get our points. Yet another late collapse. Which is of course one of the hallmarks of a bad team. Which at 10-16 we most definitely are. As it stands right now, the 6th worst record in the league. Which sounds very familiar to any of us old-time Kings fans -- seems every year we would draft 6th or 7th, just late enough to miss out on the superstars. Maybe our last chance to avoid that fate is coming up over the next few weeks, without Bonzi and Peja. One of the last major clumps of home games for us. Next up: Portalnd. Which should by all rights be automatic. One of the only teams with a worse record, on our home floor, and without their leading scorer (Miles). We'll see -- they DO still have Wiltzilla in the middle, so you never know when he might go off for 50 and 20 against us. Merry Christmas all!

Overall team, i say B+. The young guys really stepped in and thats about it. The starters did not do too good and as always Brad sucked at Defense which basically cost us the game..........

B+ for the bench D- for the starters for the first time RA used his bench it's to bad he had no choice since Bonzi and Peja was out but he should understand when he gives guys opportunity like he did to Ronnie you could get good production off the bench down the road in the Season. there is no excuse why he didn't use KT and the other guys more in the early season.

Uh, yes there is.

Its called 5 big minute reputed "All-Star caliber" starters. The bench never had much of a chance this year, no matter who was the coach. They've been underperforming, but there just are no minutes to be had when everybody is healthy. Especially not while you're trying to somehow develop some chemistry amongst teh starters.

We just sux period... will never make it to the playoffs anyway, and even if there's a big miracle we would still end up lossing to the BIG DOGS in the west. As always we r short of players and plays again... r players r playing soft, like there not using der muscle, whats up w/ that, all those time spent in the gym and not using dem. Im so confused ryt now, wer would r offense come now... never mind dat, wer IS r defense. Hope we really make some big changes and hope for a better season nxt year as for dis year wer DONE! Get new coach for a fresh look... someone who will teach dis team the word DEFENSE.. Maybe larry brown, he seems to be having prob down in new yrk... If RA is not gone by da end of this season, i will be AMAZE. And if he does stay, den we would have to suffer from lossing for another decade.

Much like all the losing we've done with him for the past decade right?

Chemistry? I see no ego's on this team I see no players among the starters. Bibby our suppose leader calling his teammates out or other players having problems with other players... Chemistry is just fine it's the coaching and the bench not giving the chance like it did tonight.

Ronnie probably played the best then our bench did the whole season opportunitys are given but it was given with " I had no choice " not because I wanted to see the bench to perform well this bench maybe is not the best in the league but there better then they have shown and giving these guys opportunitys will make our bench better.

You are taking a remarkably limited, and hence inaccrate, view of "chemistry". Chemistry isn't just the lack of affirmative problems, its also all of the good -- the trusting teammates, knowing where everybody is going to be, communication, enjoying playing which each other, settling into roles etc. All stuff we have struggled with all year.

Ronnie Price - A ; for his energy and confidence; and after riding the bench the whole year, coming in and being ready to play.
His shot looks solid, good athlete, and ballhandler, and he seems to know where to be on the court. Had more of an impact in one game than I have seen of J Hart in first 20 games.

Shareef Abdul Raheim - D; How come he shows emotion only when he gets screwed on a call? Does he not know a team has a collective energy and collective intensity to it? And as one of the more talented players, he should step up and direct some of that intensity to rally himself and teammates to inspire and lead. Instead, he is passive and mechanical defensively or offensively, make or miss, unless he gets robbed by a ref....no wonder he has never been to the playoffs in 10 years.

And SAR would be more effective if he had ever learned a little half hook, or finger roll around the hoop. Instead he tries to shoot it with one hand...clank.

Rest of team and coaching staff - C ; Played with good energy; competed against a better team; without shooters (except Bibby) or rebounders, or shot blockers, or playmakers....about the best we could hope for. Sad times at Arco.

Bibby...C-...Bibby was just kind of out there tonight...Never got into much of an offensive flow, and contributed a whole zero (0) assists from the PG slot...Just a meh kind of effort tonight...Also I'm getting kind of sick of his "dribble all the way down the court, and jack a shot with 19 seconds on the shot clock and without a pass" type of possesion that he seems to be doing some lately.

Martin...C+...
Well, he came out, and at least did something...Showed a little bit of conmsistency, as he actually put numbers coming off a great game...So it's definatly a step in the right direction...Managed to nab 6 rebounds, and dish 3 assits, giving us a nice rounded game from him...On the one three he hit, when I watched the replay, the stroke seemed incredabally pure. On the other one...Ugly..He needs to watch the replay of his made three, and impersonate that stroke on every simgle shot, and he'll be one helluva shooter.

Cisco...C-...Continures to not be able to hit the ocean from anything outside of 15 feet...Came out with a spark, but quickly got foul happy, and had to be yanked, which may have thrown off his rythm...His three shot is just horrible right now...Clanking one, and throwing one off the side of the backboard...It'll come with time, I believe, but right now needs to continue to penetrate and kick, which he showed he can do...Overall, a very mediocre game, but I still see the positives of his game, and he should continue to get his chance, IMO.

SAR...C...Came out, and actually looked like he wanted the ball...Very nice coming from a player widely known for his lack of leadership...Unfortunatly, it didn't parlay into a good game...The effecincy wasnt there tonight, and he couldnt hit his shots...Contributed 8 boards, whcih is a little better than normal, but still...He should be grabbing more.

Miller...D...Just invisible on the offensive side...HE took 12 shots, but it seemed as if he wasn't on the court at all for streches of time...Had the task of attempting to guard Nowitzki...I won't hold that against him, as a very slow unathletic man shouldn't be guarding someone like Dirk...Unfrtuantly tonight, didn't seem like he was out there.

Hart...F...
Nothing...Again...Hopfully lost his place to Ronnie Price.

Price...B+...A really nice game from Mr. Price! And hopfully the spark this tema desprately needs...Coming out party? I hope so! I liked what I saw, and hope to see more of it!

Corliss...A...The spark off the bench tonight...Grabbed rebounds, hustled around the court, and scored...I ask of nothing more, and hopefully this guy can somehow crack the rotation when Peja returns.

Thomas...C...Hit some shots, but otherwise was a non-factor...Didn't touch the boards, which I believe is his strongest game...But with Bog Diop out there grabbing everything, what can you expect 6-7 K-9 to do...

And Adleman...Where in the heck is Brian Skinner!?!? We needed a quickish athletic big guy on Dirk, and we have Brad guarding him...Hey, Rick! Skinner is that quickish athletic big guy this team probably could have used tonight.

I was at the game and you guys must have watched a completely different game then I.

I thought under the circumstances RA did a great job. The fact the team competed tells me they still are listening to him. This loss was not RA’s fault; Dallas is a superior team even if we had Peja/Wells in there they are just a better team.

I loved the starting line-up, lots of energy and movement on the floor; Ronnie had a nice game of the bench and really the first good look we got. He may turn out to be a very nice player. It’s only one game but he did have a good one. I wanted to see Sampson play but not because he would of changed anything but just to see him play. I have never watched him before.

I see so much Christie in Martin its not even funny. Not saying Martin is Christie but I just see so much of that hustle that Christie brought.

Bibby 0 assists doesn’t bother me at all. It’s the way the offense was running tonight. Then SAR had a funny game; he was playing great in spurts but then would disappear. Very hot and cold I thought.

Arco was loud and into the game because the team was giving a good solid effort. I think RA deserves a high mark for this one. I can enjoy watching a team that at least gives an honest effort on the floor. Eventually you are going to win these games.

Also did they show the guy in the floor seats wearing the Dorsett Jersey? Who was he? Everywhere he went he attracted a small crowd.

It is different on TV

Most of us saw Brad trying to guard Dirk - and most of us did not understand

I caught that, at the start of the game they had Reef on Dirk for a few possesions and it seemed like it worked. Then Brad started guarding him and then they switched again in the 4th? I didn't get that part. Not sure anyone we had could really guard Dirk.

Peja rant... How is Dirk the only guy Peja can seem to guard? Peja rant over...

Did they show Brad laying out Harris at mid-court (I think it was Harris) in the 3rd on TV?

Yes indeed. If the rest of Brad's game was just anywhere near as tough as those borderline cheapshots he sporadically nails PGs with we'd be in much better shape. Get a little annoyed, take it out on the little guy. ;)

My theory is that Pedja is just tall enough to bother Dirk, he is strong enough to bump with him, quick enough to contain driving and slow enough to be unable to react on the fakes;). Still Dirk can score 30 on pedja too - he would just need more shots.

Yes seeing D. Harris mopping the floor again was nice. Unfortunately that was the best thing miller did all night

Price: A,undrafted rookie came in and scored 11 points off the bench and didn't have any turnovers. I really like watching him.
Bibby: C+,Scored okay. Didn't get assists. Bleh.
Reef: D+,6/16 line 8 boards 3 assists 4 turnovers. Turned a gimme dunk into a blown layup near the end that would've helped us stay close. 4 turnovers and getting his shot blocked a few times. I was pissed that whomever had him guarding Dampier instead of Dirk..
Brad: C-, passed well, hustled a bit, didn't give us much on O, got lit up by dirk because dirk is pretty fast and can shoot it but it's not really his fault. Rebounding=his average=bad.
Garcia&Kevin: B, they did okay. Whoever was guarding josh howard did a real good job, josh went 5-19. Kevin and Cisco rebounded pretty well too. Played decent D.
Corliss: B, too lazy and tired to say what he did and most people saw it on tv anyways.
