Salmons ( B+ ) -- best game from John in a long time, and in effect carried us in the early going, scoring 9 of our 15 first quarter points. Offense was much better than the 5-12 shooting indicates. Hit those spot shots that are so critical when Reke is driving and dishing, and had some nice attacks inside, largely ignoring Kobe's defense throughout. Efficiency began to drop as either he, or the coach, got overencouraged and we started to see 1 on 1 Salmons isos, which isn't cool even when they fall. Defense was good, even when he was getting beat. Metta poses problems with his grown man body, and Kobe switched into god mode after awhile and was draining jumpers right over guys playing perfect defense, but Salmons was giving good effort and making few mistakes. Got frozen out late in the game along with Reke and Cousins, and so no late numbers at all, but was an important tablesetter for us as we established this was going to be a battle, not a blowout. And more than offensive numbers, or defensive work, made a lot of saavy plays out there helping rather than disrupting.

Stats: 40min 13pts (6-12, 0-1, 1-2) 10reb 1ast 1stl 1blk 1TO
Thompson ( A- ) -- statistically quiet early, with his biggest accomplishments being inadvertently clocking Hayes with an elbow and sending him to the locker room for stitches, and fumbling an easy pass on the break. But behind the non-numbers was having himself a heckuva game, as this may have been the best defensive game I have seen him play. Jason is not a great defender, but tonight he was very good indeed. Extremely active, and you could see him racing back into position every time he lost it, challenging every entry pass, staying long, blocking out, racing bakc on the break to stop transition, a thousand little things that all added up to him being a significant 6'11" impediment in there to Pau and Howard and effectively outplaying both. And there were few of his normal mistakes. He played the game almost foul free, and mistkae free, never giving guys that free run to the hoop they always seem to get against us. Made occasional contributions on the other end, including getting the flip from Jimmer to close the first half and put us up going into half -- potentially an important little point for our psyche -- but it was on defense and later int he game, the glass, that he really helped. Howard, who just looked dead out there, was furstrated enough he got a technical foul clocking Jaosn in the chops with an elbow with 2:30 minutes to go and pikcing up a flagrant foul that helped us seal it.

Stats: 21min 7pts (3-9, 0-0, 1-2) 8reb 2ast 0stl 0blk 3TO
Cousins ( D+ ) -- in theory there is no way we should have been able to beat the Lakers without a big game from Boogie. But effectively we had to play the Lakers for a second straight game without him, as he perhaps came out overhyped and struggled before landing in quick foul trouble, eventually fouling out in the final minute of the game having played only 21 minutes. Wasn't efficient early even before the fouls, as he struggled to finish inside on the break on one possession, and missed a number of long jumpers rather than go inside against the lakers length. In fact he and Howard, potentially the two best centers in the game, were sitting there without a field goal for either of them late in the first half. Was also the only one of our bigs occsionally getting beat because of lazy defense. Even throught he muck still made a hanful of spectacular plays on the night, including a centers don't do that behind the back pass to Reke on the break that's in the highlights above. Started the third wild and forcing again, but before fouls took him out may have helped get Reke going as he and Reke, sat out forever until about the final 4 minutes of the game. Came back stiuff as a board and immediately committed his 5th foul halfheartedly blocking the lane. But down the stretch we finally got that little burst of Boogie I thought we were going to need to seal it at some point, coming up wiht back to back strong 1 on 1 scores to help seal it, inclduign another spectacular centers don't do that crossover and up and under flip past Pau and Dwight, that again is in the highlights. He may not have done much, but much of what he did was highlight worthy. Still obviously has to be a low grade for the Franchise, when everybody else was carrying him, rather than the other way around. Can we have a little conssitency please? I'll throw on a plus for the timely scores and spectacular nature of some of his plays, but would have been less amused if we had ended up losing this.

Stats: 29min 18pts (7-11, 0-0, 4-4) 4reb 6ast 0stl 1blk 5TO
Evans ( A- ) -- had himself a helluva game again, and is starting to come online now. Now if we can only convince the coach to put him on the floor. Very aggressive from the beginning of this one on both sides of the ball, although early results were mixed. Made some spectacular defensive plays on Kobe, inclduing just taking the ball from him up top, and then getting fouled by Kobe as he tried to take it back. But was missing his early jumpers, and picked up his 2nd foul on a charging call on the break. Doing a great job looking to set people up off the dribble, but guys weren't knocking them down early, and the main reason there is a "-" up above is because sometimes he was trying to make too good a pass, and he racked up turnovers as a result. Began to get his offense going a bit in the 2nd, scoring on a pretty spin move through the lane, and making another great looking swoop off of a post up attempt that just crawled off the rim. But it was the third quarter where he really exploded, dominating play along with Brooks on both sides of the ball. After getting overpowered by Ron and picking up his 3rd foul, got revenge with a spectacular flying block on the break, and started racing around out there, creating open looks for guys with his penetration and kicks, and smothering the Lakers on defense. The capper came when he started draining jumpers off his dribble, the 4th straight game where we have seen them eventually fall after the miserable start to the season. In fact did not miss a shot after halftime. Was rewarded by being rather comically frozen out after the huge quarter not getting back in until the 3:30 mark of the game. Come on. Still a powerful game as the best King. Can't call him the best player on the court with Kobe going for 38, but he looked like a star again.

Stats: 22min 13pts (5-9, 2-5, 1-1) 4reb 3ast 1stl 0blk 0TO
Brooks ( B+ ) -- a tale of two halves for Brooks. In the early going did create our only early shot dribbling though the lane and kicking to Salmons. But otherwise was losing the battle we should have won, getting shot over by really-not-a-PG Darius Morris, and responding by doing nothing more than chucking up long bricked threes. But in the thrid quarter turned things, as he and Reke dominated play and Brooks used hsi quickness to get wherever he wanted against the Lakers. Continued firing threes, which looks better when you are hitting them, but also zipped around picks and got into the lane, on one spectacular drive fully extending to out dash Howard to the rim for a layup +1. Was an impact quarter for him, but did not lead to anything late, as IT played well in the 4th, and then finally it was time for Reke to close things up as the PG down the stretch.

Hayes ( B+ ) -- you know, upon a first half rewatch, Chuck actually wasn't playing exceptional defense before the break. Was ok, but guys were open, they just missed, and not because of any pressure from him. But as soon as he checked back in he flashed to the post and Reke hit him for a little flip, and he was playing an uncommon offensive game for him, as all game long he was surprisingly effective with his little high school center flips and whatnot against a really long frontline that just never seemed in position to challenge him. And when he returned in the third with Cousins in foul trouble, again, his defense picked way way up and he made an impact on the game. Not only muscling Howard, but also taking two charges. Its kind of dumb to put up so many A-/B+ type grades, but that's about where everybody but Cousins was tonight, and why we won.

Stats: 28min 23pts (8-13, 3-5, 4-4) 4reb 1ast 1stl 0blk 1TO
Thornton ( B+ ) -- finally snapped out of his funk, and predictably with he and Reke both running hot, we were able to survive another game wiht no real Cousins. Came in and hit his first jumper to break an early drougt for us, and surged into a microwave period for the first time in 4 or 5 games, racing out in the early 2nd. Now on the flip side, he may have been our single worst defender of the night, as it looked like old style Thornton highly energetic but undisciplined defense, and Jodie Meeks in particular was thnaking him for all the open looks. Dribbled the ball off his foot for the closing play of the thrid, and got victimized by a serious case of Lakers reffing in the process when he went to the floor and got the foul called on him for doing nothign that could be seen, givng the Lakers 2 FTs to close the quarter. Continued to get scored on on defense, but hit a tough fallaway the other way, and late in the game hit a big three for one of our backbreaking shots as we pulled away down the stretch. Strong offensive night, but the defensive issues are going to sink him back as one of the B+ brigade.

Stats: 16min 6pts (1-2, 0-0, 4-4) 0reb 2ast 0stl 0blk 2TO
Thomas ( C+ ) -- some size related issues on defense, and a few moments of trying to do too much resulting in turnovers, but generally a solid game keeping other people involved. Was able to drive inside the lane pretty easily, and after an early overpenetration resulting in a wild pass for a turnover, was doing a solid job setting people up off his dribble. Seemed to be getting caught a lot on Kobe or Meeks on defense and those guys were just pulling up and shooting over him with ease.

Stats: 19min 6pts (3-5, 0-0, 0-1) 0reb 5ast 2stl 1blk 2TO
Johnson ( B ) -- hey! finally! I really doi think going ot the bench has settled him a little. there were some wobby moments here, but he came through them, stuck to his strengths, and gave us a legitimate boost on BOTH ends of the court. On offense he was doing a better job of picking and choosing when to slash to the rim, and aside from one ugly airball, was avoiding the bricked jumpers. And the biggest thing he was doing was greasing the offense with hsi pasing, as he and Reke were really the two guys creating shots for everybody out there. On the break, off the dribble, notched a lot of assists, and minimized the bad passes along the way. On defense he brought the usual effort and help defense, including a big block behidn JT, and a steal and breakaway up top, mixed with a few mistakes on man defense like fouling Kobe on a 3pt shot after we brought him in to try to chase Kobe off those jumpers he was killing us with. Would be nice if he could at some point start reboudning again as well, but baby steps and all that. In any case legitimately good game though for the first time this season.

Stats: 10min 4pts (2-3, 0-0, 0-0) 3reb 0ast 0stl 1blk 1TO
Robinson ( B- ) -- more good than bad here as he got his feet wet in the first half with Cousisn in foul trouble, and made some plays. Had several strong defensive rebounds, although if you watched was struggling wiht Hill's length. Had some wild offensive attempts as we saw more of the 1 on 1 driving attemtps this time than the off the ball alley oop stuff, but he got one of them to fall in lucky fashion off the glass. In his best sequence came from way off the ball to get up for a block on Pau, and then raced down the otehr way, took a pass from Reke, and knocked down the little baseline jumper. No minutes after half as we were getting serious against a serious team, and JT and Hayes were playing great defense together.

Stats: 0min 0pts (0-0, 0-0, 0-0) 0reb 1ast 0stl 0blk 0TO
Fredette (INC ) -- jsut to cap the team nature of this win, even Jimmer, who played all of 8 seconds at the end fo the first half, made a contribution in his minutes, as we brought him in, and he executed the play we called nicely, leading to a flip by JT top close the half and send us into the lockerrom ahead. Let's see, 8 seconds of playign time, 1 assists. In a game there are 2880 seconds. Meaning that if we had played Jimmer 48min last night he was on pace to set an NBA record wiht 360 assists! Woot!

We always seem to get one or two wins a year against the lakers that gives fans hope. Good win, but lets see them play this hard the next game, and a week from now. This game felt like the Season opener last year vs Lakers, or the TNT game vs the Thunder. Good teams play consistently whether they are playing the Heat on national tv or the Wizards on a Saturday morning.

Celebration !!!!! Salmons is the missing link!!! .... .... ... what did i just say!?!? I knew he would be a much needed shooter to help spread the floor tho...

the offense looked much smoother

MT says Chuck got game ball. I agree. Chuckwagon threw his weight around keeping Lakers bigs frustrated (while DMC was out), made great passes to cutters and just kept the stability out there as a leader.

I entirely agree. With that level of intensity and fire, they could beat nearly any team in the league, but it seems like they just don't play with the same effort every game. Let's just hope this builds a little momentum

my thoughts on tonight

-good to see 23 assists tonight

-nice to see Jimmer/Garcia/Outlaw out of the rotation

-if they could find a way to play with this intensity every night, they would probably be 9-2 right now

No it didn't, our half court offense consisted of isolating player "x" and seeing what happens. There were some nice moments where guys made hard cuts to the rim but they were few and far between. Our offense is best when our defense allows us to get out on the break, Our half court offense was still almost non-existant other than isolating a random player, difference tonight was guys generally were hitting their shots, on a season where NOBODY on this team sans Jimmer has been shooting well

Thanksgiving on the 28th? When? Was this video made in 2013?

Also, what's the deal with the random adult black male at a party full of 12 year old girls?

Realistically the game ball should go to either Thompson or Hayes for ERASING the Lakers front court. I want to vote for Tyreke though for taking over the game in the time he was on the floor and for making a couple jump shots. He looked like the tasmanian devil out there.

there was better spacing, more drive and kicks, better screens with some pick and roll... stuff that was nonexistent previous

Only problem I saw was keeping the bench in for about 4 minutes too long in the Fourth. Tyreke and Salmons should have been in for IT and Johnson. JJ was getting lit up by Kobe and Tyreke was playing phenomenal. 28 minutes for your best player on the night? ugh.

On the other hand, Smart has really cracked down the rotation and I think he's found a mix that works. Brooks/Tyreke/Salmons/Thompson/Cousins -> IT/Thornton/JJ/Robinson/Hayes -> finish with Tyreke/Thornton/Salmons/Thompson/Cousins

Hayes is key in the middle and JT plays 40 min. Their defense was key. MT did what we knew all along so hope he out of funk. Tyreke good controlled game. IT dribbling too much but no real movement either. Brooks best game. Cuz big mystery but maybe too excited to play Howard. Salmons good game too. TRob a monster when he was in but way too short time.

Loved the game. But as others have said, let's see 'em bring it for several games. I'm tired of this team getting up for a couple games of the year, only to look lousy for many games afterward. If they can get up against LA, there's no excuse about not getting up against Utah.

I thought everybody had a good game except Cuz; he was AWOL. Again.

Tyreke only played 28 minutes. COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS

he plays an excellent, efficient, on-fire game, and his head coach rewards him with a seat on the bench. ridiculous, indeed. if i were a conspiracy theorist, i'd say that the maloofs, etc. really are attempting to shrink 'reke's minutes and tank his overall value so they can either low-ball him in the offseason or let him walk with little remorse. its pathetic. good win, but ****ty philosophy; you DO NOT ice your most talented players as consistently as keith smart does. you will find no other coaching staff in the league that approves of such a strategy...

Oh, come on.

Great win. Was there and the roar of the Lakers fans, repeated on any excuse, made the victory all the sweeter for me. Thompson, Hayes and Salmons were great work horses in the victory. Team and coach all played really well. Voison should call for Petrie's firing more often.

Finding it difficult to believe any Tyreke Bashing in view of the success of last night. Sure it is only one win but it was impressive unlike the other 2 wins so far. Takes time to find a rotation. Tyrekes' 28 min are no worse than JTs' 40 min, neither of which mean anything for next game and the next and so on. Key now is to see if the kids can take that success and use it in the next 2 games vs. the Jazz. Different team and very different roster and no big deal rivalry.

We can't really rub anything in...they have all the rings, we have none, and our team is still in shambles.

Edit: it was a nice win, though. :)

Meh, i dont buy that. With that logic only the Celtics are ever allowed to talk trash...i think. I can and will rub it in as much as a possibly can to the point of absurd obnoxiousness lol

Some of you , ie Rainmaker, would be happier with Evans having big games and the Kings losing than the Kings winning and Evans being the 2nd or 3rd best player.

If it takes Evans playing 28 minutes for him to exert the same type of energy as last night then he should only be playing 28 mins.

Load of hooey.

There is absolutely no evidence that Reke's energy was flagging in the least. That's not why he sat out.

Some could accuse you of the opposite. You grin every time Evans has a bad game so you can go Aha! Just chalk it up as some people have different visions of how this team should be built/ran.

Did anyone see MT and Smart have a discussion with about 4 minutes left in the first quarter? The result is MT sat back down on the bench.

Nice win against the hated Lakers. Yes I understand the state of the current Lakers but there is no mercy in the NBA.

JT is really starting to come into his own. JT and the rest of the Kings just need to build on this and focus on winning the next/current game.

GO KINGS,
KB
