Just like the second-guessing about the Kawhi Leonard pick, the Drummond pick only looks like a miss with the benefit of hindsight. Drummond's development may, very well, have looked very different in Sacramento than it has in Detroit. The biggest question mark about Drummond prior to the draft was about what was between his ears. Put a raw talent like that in a franchise that has been notable the last 7 years for failing to develop young talent and next to a volatile young star in the frontcourt, and his "potential" would stay potential.

Also, can you imagine what his offense would have looked like had Keith Smart given him a solid green light on any open shot at the beginning of the season like he did with the rest of our players?

Not sure I agree as a great deal of the posters on this board were against both moves long before the players proved them right. Yes, Smart sucks as a coach and would have probably stunted the development of anyone we picked. But I still go with the guys that have translatable skills and nba bodies/positions every day.

Fact, unless something drastically changes, we probably screwed both those picks up.

Maybe. Depending on who was dictating who our pick, let's assume Petrie had the final say just for giggles, he knows shooters and I would trust his opinion.

What potnetial I wonder. he slipped so far because peopel began to realize his high end might be Jeff Green.

Drummond was the pick. Played the same poisition as the guy we picked, except his skill package was much more aligned with what we should ahve been looking for, and his body/athleticism was a impressive as anybody had seen. We had him in for workouts. There simply is no excuse for missing on him given all that other than that you just simply missed and went for the name instead.

I would love to resort to the "what's done is done" foxhole on this one, but its oen fo several moves or nonmoves in recent years that have deeply hurt me. I could see a Cousins/Drummond frontline, could see what that could have meant for a very very long time. It all fell into place draft night, all you gotta do is call the name into Stern...and we won't ever get that opportunity again. One last too small "big" on your way out the door, eh Geoff? Ignore the long shotblocker one last time for old time's sake? Idiot.
