Better.

I'm sure something that happened tonight was Cousins fault, other than the winning of course, but until we can dump that cancer this is probably the best we can hope for. Didn't answer many questions defensively, still had a 2nd quarter collapse, but we slapped them around easily and got the absolutely needed win to avoid imminent changes. And ooh, we got WCS back and he looked good in short garbagetime minutes.

BTW, 44 was our highest quarter of the season, and 142 is our most points since 1993 --23 years.

P.S. Tyson Chandler is a quitter.

P.P.S. George Karl is a <sic> cancer (sry George!)

P.P.S. So is Omri Casspi.

Boxscore

Stats: 34min 16pts (8-16, 0-2, 0-0) 3reb 2ast 3stl 1blk 2TO
Summary: you know what? Still wasn't himself, but had a few moments of inspiration and wasn't needed.

Gay ( C ) -- was getting outhustled and banged by Tucker early, but finally got a good board in front of Len, and his energy picked up. Pulled up for a midranger the other way, and got a block from behind on Len. But there was no rhythm or consistency to his offense at all, and he seemed like the one guy the Suns could guard tightly and smother. Finally he forced in an off balance baseline move for just his 2nd hoop late in the half, but that still left him all of 2-6 for 4pts and I think 2 rebs. Just another largely empty game. We came out in the third trying to get him going, to spotty effect. He did sore score out of a timeout at the 9min mark of the quarter, and picked up several finishes on scramble plays and breaks. Combined with a few garbagetime hoops he eventually got up to a respectable 16pts. But it was a curiously rhythmless 16 points, and at no point did he string even a couple of hoops together to make you think he was heating up. Nor were the boards there this time. Better than he has been, in that he wasn't a liability, but still a long way from a star type game, let along performance.

Stats:29min 13pts (4-8, 2-4, 3-3) 7reb 1ast 1stl 0blk 0TO
Summary: hit a couple of threes early, a conventional 3pt play later, nothing exceptional except more synergy points and a +25 +/-

Casspi ( B ) -- I had concerns about spotty and lost defense in this game for Omri. but overall it was another of his successful roleplayer outings. He hit two long threes early in the game, added a leakout and as we started our second half run added a conventional three point play on a drive (which was good to see as the 3pt explosion has left him sometimes looking unusually passive, for him, about taking it to the rack). it his first three off of ball movement, and scored on a leakout. He was also aggressive on the boards, in fact aggressive enough that he hopped in Boogie's way on several defensive boards. He didn't dominate play, but he clearly helped, and it was another night where his +/- was up there with the stars'. He did, however, pick up a technical, and hence I know he is a cancer and bad guy and want him off the team.

Stats: 27min 32pts (11-15, 1-2, 9-11) 9reb 1ast 2stl 0blk 1TO
Summary: this was easy dominance here, fouled the Suns two bigs out of his way, then laughed at the midgets that were left. BTW that's an .807 TS%.

Cousins ( A ) -- beat up on the Suns frontline, and made it look easy (aside from an inadvertent elbow to the chin by Len). he started the game only 1-4 on two missed jumpers and then a drive, missed finish, and follow sequence. From that point on he shot 10-11, splashing in jumpers, running around bigger defenders, and posting and pinning the little ones that were left after the big ones got in foul trouble/thrown out. he capped his first half with a three to give him 23 points in the half. Added 9 more in the third, and took the entire 4th off after 32pts in 27 minutes. Throw in some nice passes in the early going to set guys up, and gamelong disruptive defensive play up top smothering and stripping the ball from the Suns' centers, and its an easy A grade. And apparently more importantly for Boogie's detractors, he even did most of it with a big smile on his face.

Stats: 22min 3pts (0-3, 0-2, 3-4) 1reb 3ast 0stl 0blk 4TO
Summary: somehow the party bus pulled up, and Ben was the only guy left standing at the curb. Made a few good passes, but no FGs, and only negative +/- on team.

McLemore ( C ) -- I really didn't think Ben was playing terribly in the early going, but as is so often the case, he just refused to be productive and nothing ever came of it. He made several nice making passes driving and dishing to set guys up, taking advantage of the attention focused elsewhere. But of course the reason the attention was focused elsewhere is that Ben barely presents a threat. Defensively Booker was one of the guys lighting us up, but Ben himself was having fewer breakdowns than our other perimeter players. When he started the 3rd off impotent again, and we struggled out of the gate, he was quickly parked over on the bench next to Karl, and I swear I saw a little sigh out of him as the normal pattern has been for that to be it for his minutes in a game. The blowout grew so significant however that Ben got back in for the final 3 minutes, and once again flipped up a pass for an assists, on an alley oop on which both Acy and WCS seemed to simul-dunk the ball. Still couldn't hit his corner threes though, and he ended up a 142pt game as the only King not to hit a FG, and the only one with a significant negative +/- (-6). On the range of possible Ben outcomes, trending distinctly toward minor bench player right now.

Stats: 30min 15pts (6-11, 1-2, 2-2) 6reb 15ast 1stl 0blk 3TO
Summary: was back working for us again, driving and kicking to shooters, or taking advantage of the attention Cuz draws for squirts to the rim

Rondo ( A- ) -- despite the big numbers, I'm not sure Rajon ever felt truly dominant in this one. Part of it may have been his man was doing a bit too much scoring on the other end. Part of it may have been the big numbers everybody else was putting up as well. Regardless, he was at least out of the pass it to the other team as often as I pass it to mine slump of recent weeks and making smart plays. Drive and kicks to shooters, busts to cuttters. When guys overplayed Cuz he used the attention to get to the hoop. On the final play of the first half he made the saavy steal of a lazy Suns inbounds pass, and zipped it over to DC for a closing layin. He hit a three. Maybe it didn't feel as dominant as some of his games, but he kept us moving forward by doing very little that moves us back. So few mistakes, and many contributions.

Bench

Stats: 25min 19pts (7-11, 2-5, 3-3) 2reb 0ast 1stl 0blk 0TO
Belinelli ( B+ ) -- was an important player for us in surviving our first half doldrums. Came into the game and immediately did his kick flop three FT thing in the final minute of the 1st quarter. In the early 2nd got called for a ridiculous "flagrant foul" hammering a Sun with the ferocity that only Marco Belinelli is known for, but he responded with a series of jumpers, including a well timed three to push the lead back to 4, that almost singlehandedly held off the Suns pucsh and kept them from taking the lead from us and perhaps panicking an already panicked team/crowd. in the early 2nd responded with a jumper. He chipped in some more points after half to maintain his current hot streak, but it was the 2nd quarter when his play significantly bailed us out.

Stats: 29min 21pts (7-10, 2-4, 5-6) 2reb 6ast 0stl 0blk 1TO
Collison ( B+ ) -- hard to grade this one, and have to separate it in three parts. In the first half, he was a negative player for us. He missed his long shots, presided over our 2nd quarter collapse, and was too small at SG, repeatedly getting shot or boarded over. But Rondo made a great steal and pass to DC for the layup at the buzzer to put us up 6, and when he returned in the 3rd for Ben is when the blowout really started. At that point, with 7min to go in the third, we were actually down 69-71. From there until the end of the game (at which point DC handed it back over to Ben with 3 min to go) we scored 73pts in 19 minutes, and it was DC in particular keeping thing going after the starters left to take the rest of the night off. He got to the rim, hit threes, and even dribbled into several of his old preferred midrange elbow shots as he dominated garbagetime.

Stats: 15min 8pts (3-3, 0-0, 2-5) 7reb 0ast 0stl 1blk 1TO
Koufos ( B- ) -- barely effective in his first stint again as our reserves could not hold the big lead dropped off with them by the starters. Still shaky on his FTs, which did not help. But he was one of the many reserves who gave us a much better game in his second semi-garbagetime stint and helped push a big lead into a rout. Got a dunk down an open lane from Rondo in the late 3rd, and began to pile up boards against a sad Leuer/Teletovic frontline. Added a long moving hook in the early 4th and generally provided solid fill-the-hole relief. Anybody who thinks we'd be better with that than Boogie needs to give a urine sample, but on the night Koufos did his job.

Stats: 15min 5pts (2-3, 1-2, 0-0) 3reb 0ast 0stl 0blk 1TO
Anderson ( B- ) -- some good rebounds late in the first half. and a three off ball movement in the early 4th. Obviously not a big part of anything, but I think he took some Ben minutes just with hard work and roleplay, and did a solid job of it.

Stats: 6min 4pts (2-2, 0-0, 0-0) 1reb 1ast 0stl 0blk 1TO
Curry ( INC ) -- late garbage minutes, but agains showed a little scrap, a little saavy, did a nice little job setting some people up, and then hit back to back shots on a saavy layup (on which he might have traveled) and an excited stop and pop, that could be called selfish from a non-Curry.

Stats: 5min 4pts (2-3, 0-0, 0-0) 5reb 1ast 0stl 0blk 0TO
Cauley Stein ( INC ) -- into the game and quickly got a little flip from Curry and an attempt at some interior defense. Was involved with Acy in the NBA's first synchronized alley oop, and showed good hustle for long rebounds. Overall was nicely active and aggressive through the late garbage minutes,

Stats: 4min 2pts (1-2, 0-0, 0-0) 0reb 0ast 1stl 0blk 0TO
Acy ( INC ) -- combined with WCS for the synchronized alley oop late in the game.

Defense is still a no show....they need to shoot 50+% for them to even have a chance to win games? ehhh...not a long term or short term to win ball games but for the day, I suppose you take the win and be quiet.

Team showed more heart this outing than in previous couple weeks. Still hate how George's lineups erode leads and he refuses to adjust. Still don't like DMC's game focusing on perimeter face-up rather than pounding inside. After TC left the game, DMC had a huge advantage inside but they didn't seem to focus their offense around him positing up save for a few possessions in the second half. I'd like to see them feed him consistently and pass out of those double and triple teams he was seeing.

I provided just what the Kings needed this afternoon, I left town and just hooked up to Wi-Fi and learned the outcome of the game. No, no, it as noting - just a family week at Point Reyes Station, Marin Co.

Anyway team, great win.

Enjoy. Any kind of service out there is sketchy at best.

There seemed to be a change in mood from Cuz and Marco but is it real or fake? It may not make any difference if it's a good fake. I noticed that the coaching group were already smiling as Cuz came up to him. He IS a wise ass and needs to show that side of him a lot. It's easier to smile when you are winning but at thbis time in the game, whether we won or lost was not a sure thing.

PS; I now see how the Suns lost to the Sixers...they are just as bad, if not worse than the Kings on the defensive end, if that is possible.

They fired their defensive assistant a couple days ago and since then the Suns defense has completely tanked.

I'm sure something that happened tonight was Cousins fault, other than the winning of course, but until we can dump that cancer this is probably the best we can hope for.

Boogie was brilliant tonight and looked better than he has in over a month b/c (1) he was moving better (more fluid and less labored) and (2) he didn't force one play the entire game. If there was any fault to his game it was he gambled on ill-advised steals twice forcing the team to rotate to cover for him and cost team 6 points (on two 3s). This is a minor nitpick in an otherwise flawless game. And I love it when Boogie gets the entire opponents front line in foul trouble.

Rational critics know Cousins has been good for 4-5 forces per game and he didn't do that today. Even though he only had 1 assist he often made the pass that led to the pass that led to the basket. I challenge anyone to find fault with the Karl system that allowed Cousins space to operate facing the basket from 20 feet and in and early lob offense. The system looks a lot better when it doesn't include hero ball.

Those fans who are unhappy with the way Karl is using Boogie are going to have find something else to be unhappy about at least for one night because as far as I can tell the early lob offense and middle of the court triple threat set-up is the best use of his talent against less mobile bigs. It was the execution in the month of December that failed us not the game plan.

I forgot how talent Willie is after a one month absence but man can this guy be good! I am wondering however if for Willie to get the minutes he needs we may need to trade Koufos for a defensive wing so Willie can play back-up center. Koufos probably has pretty good trade value. Willie needs to be on the court if we are going to turn this season around but I am not sure where he gets minutes because Omri certainly isn't going to lose his starting spot.

Sucks for Ben on a night team score 142 he has 0 FGs but this happens when you have a coach and PG who treat him like a scrub.

Welcome to the team Marco! That's two great games in a row after a season of ineptitude. It's great to see this guy regain his confidence if for no other reason that it will raise his trade value. Granted he went off against the two teams that play no defense but hopefully this will have carryover against teams that actually defend.

Let's just take a moment and enjoy this blowout victory. Seem's like its been forever since we could watch our Kings play and just enjoy it because we're up by so much.
Phoenix may have way more issues than we do at this moment, but they are still an NBA team capable of beating people on any given night.

So good job Kings! Maybe this is a sign of good things to come!

I think we desperately need t keep Koufos. Willie and Casspi need minutes but we need Koufos. Just my view.
KK is a good value in the new cap, however I cannot see playing him above WCS. IMO, DMC needs to play C and WCS starting. If that happens, then keep him.

I'd love to trade Koufos for someone like John Henson. Tall, lengthy and active big with good quickness. Lacks the beef and build Koufos does but it's all about speed in this league now.

I'd love to have him too, but we already have two of those on this team.

This. And Rudy back to the god damn three. And Casspi as a backup 3/4 and Koufos as the backup 4/5.

I don't see why this is so difficult.

We sacrifice ZERO mobility. Even gain some. Sacrifice some shooting, ok. But not much if Casspi still gets 30 minutes a night.

3/4/5 minute breakdown (144 total mins)

Cuz 35
WCS 30
Gay 35
Casspi 24-30
Koufos 14-20

Seems so obvious to me.
