Don't Make Me Use The Bat
In general I remember the Cardiac Kids actually winning most of their tight games. We are more like the Cardiac Arrest Kids. In any case, once again we showed out there that we were every bit as good as these teams we have been playing...until it comes time to win it. Not a talent thing. A brains/experience/confidence thing. You just have to hope we hold it together long enough for things to finally click.
Okay, sorry for the delay. Theme we're going with this time is: Bad Photoshop

Greene ( C ) -- had a couple of highlights, including an early three again and a nice up and under finsih on a brilliant Reke feed in the mid-3rd. Could have had a couple more if Reke and Beno had been on target with their alley oop passes. But really this was just that meh game Donte has sometimes. Didn't really put his stamp on things on either side and never seemed to have any great amount of energy. After the early three, missed all of his others on the night, and ceded all of his late minutes to Casspi, who made a lot of mistakes, missed a lot of shots, but was clearly more dynamic tonight. I should say Donte ceded all his minutes to Casspi until he was inserted for the final play of the game, and involved in our final flub of the game, as Casspi drove the lane looking for the layup to cut the lead to 2 with 5 seconds left in OT and give us some sort of intentionnal foul, they miss one, we hit the game tying buzzer beating three chance at a miracle. But 6 feet from the hoop with the basket open and the layup nigh guaranteed, Omri suddenly decided to pass it to Donte, who was charging the rim looking to mopup if Omri missed. And Omri decided the best pass to throw in that situation was a 90mph fastball from 5 feet away thrown behind and above Donte. Wanna take a gues how that went?
Now this guy clearly IS Prince Charming. His princess is a three armed mutant but he doesn't care. This appears BTW to actually have gone to print this way, which is just remarkable.
Thompson ( C ) -- nice roleplaying job in the early game. Slashed to the hoop for a nice Cousins feed, hit an open faceup jumper. And the Aldridge numbers from this one were a bit deceptive -- we, and the we here means primarily Jason and Daly, had him bottled all night. He eventually got numbers late in this one mostly not by beating our inside guys so much as those inside guys having to rotate over on guard pentration, leaving Aldridge open at the rim. Which happens of course, but it is just to say that Jason was solid in there against him. Some good defensive boardwork in the third to keep the Blazers to 1 and done as the game turned into a defensive slugfest. But you began to notice something as this game dragged on and Jason's minutes piled up: he just quit being productive somewhere along the line. In 36 min you generally want to get more than 7 and 6 (and 4 assists) out of your starting PF, roleplayer or no. Had some misadventures late too as he missed the go ahead jumper at the 2:30 mark, and then got blocked at the rim at the 50 second mark as neither team could score and put the game away.
Speaking of three armed women, I am not even really sure what happened to Beyonce here, or why.
Cousins ( D- ) -- ok, this was the worst effort we've seen from Cousins in weeks. And I do mean effort too. There were a couple of isolated hustle plays on defense, but his game jsut felt oddly..eak, for lack of a better word. Had an obvious power edge on offense, but he rarely used it. Rarely powered inside, even against he should have been abel to bully ball. Mostly content to face and go inside fairly softly. He was missing short ones, but then again, there was none of the power or interior niftiness that makes those things go. Did have an early highlight slipping in a tremendous pass to a slashing JT, right off the defender's hip and catching Jason at full gallop. But other than an islated big flush in the 3rd, spent the night settling and flipping up little Hawesesque prayers. And this was against a team missing virtually all of its shotblockers and starting Dante Cunningham in there. Indications are mixed, but will have to watch here a bit for fatigue. Remember this was when Omri hit his wall last year, and with the questions about Cousins' conditioing there are many who fell he'll hit one sooner or later himself. Lost all of his late minutes to Daly, who played a very strong game and stayed out there right through the OT.
Notice the shadow and reflection in the car? Hmm...what seems to be missing?
Udrih ( B+ ) -- quietly going about his business in the early going, and whle he wasn't really forceful, he was once again incredibly efficient and hit everything he took, and added a nifty spinning interior pass to Landry for the foul as well. Was giving a decent effort on defense agian and fighting through screens chasing his guys, Really solid play in the 4th and knocked down a three to get us to 7 up with 6:00 to go. Good hustle play to get back and break up a Miller fastbreak and keep it tied at the 48 second mark. In OT set up Reke for a trip to the line that tied it for us again, and nest possesion retied the game himself on a jumper. Just a really dependable game throguhout that just lacked a little punch. Was an asset pretty much all game long, but there ws no point when he just took over, and it wasn't the sort of game where we could just ride him down the stretch while chasing the victory.
The art of photoshopping women into grotesque parodies of themselves may have hit a new low here.
