Gilbert Arenas, Who is he?

Bench
Who is this guy. Every time I see him play, they are compairing his stats against the opponent's point guard. He is a scoring guard isn't he? I mean, they guy certainly doesn't know how or care to pass. He doesn't seem that small. Is that why he got drafted in the second round? Because he was a small scorer?

I believe GA is 6' 3" and he is extremely talented. Hes been playing well but just recently got noticed because Washington is actually winning games this year (not anymore?). Well, keep your eyes on him.

But is he a point guard? He seems like that team has 2 shooting guards and need a point farward. I did notice him on the Warriors because they were always talking about him. I am not so sure I like what I see.

I mean, thats what I figured, but as of yet, I havn't seen much of him. Perhaps 1 to add to the trio of Marburry, Iverson, and Francis?

^i dunno about that...

he's is considered to be there PG...a scoring PG yes...the thing that does bug me is that his assists numbers seem to be pretty low...i dunno what they are exactly on average but so many times I've seen Washingtons box score and seen him have 35pts with like 2 assists...i mean what? To me thats not exceptable. Id bet that that Steve Blake kid who comes off their bench averages more assists per game....Im gonna have to go look this up...but thats what it SEEMS like

Like i said IMO its still rather hard to put him in with that trio...people call those three ball hogs but Stephon Marbury is 3rd in the league in assists with 8 per game....AI is 5th with 7.7 per game....Steve is 7th with 7.1...AND THEN big drop down to Gilbert Arenas who is 26th with 5.1 a game...

Lets keep in mind that our own Mike Bibby is 9th in the league in assists with 6.1 ...

I overstepped a bit with the whole Steve Blake thing obviously...but he's a better PG than GA...GA really should be an off guard but...

he's super selfish man... he got talent, but poor character.... that's why the warriors dumped him

Poor character, yes. But the Warriors didn't actually dump him. They weren't able to re-sign him due to issues with the cap.

I read an interview he did with Slam Magazine when he was still with the Warriors and he mentioned how the Kings told him they were interested in him. They later pulled back and drafted G. Wallace instead. The Kings reasoning for not picking Arenas, according to Arenas, was that they had concerns about his shot. He then said, look at GW, "a monkey could shoot better".

He left Arizona after his sophomore year before he was really ready. Thats why he was a 2nd rounder. He is only a PG because they daon't have one. He was definitely a Shooting Guard in college. He has improved a ton since he got drafted. He may be a little selfish but he's carried the Wizards into the playoffs. Even Jordan couldn't pull that off:)

I know that the Trio has high assist numbers. They always have. Marburry has like an 8+ career assist average. But whith those three, the numbers are a bit deciptive, as they get their assists, but if you watch, you know that they ALWAYS have the ball is their hands. It is sort of a situation where they get their assists, and then forget about the rest of the team. Stats arn't everything. That is why I am cautious about criticizing Arenas. I know that he was not ABLE to be resigned by GSW, but every time I see him, he is taking shots. Now, this isn't an issue if he is not desegnated a PG. Say, if he had an Antwan Walker or Grant Hill feeding him.

Bibby is an interesting story. I don't concider him selfish at all. I know he is a scoring PG. I don't have a problem per se with scoring PGs, just how they play. I also like the fact that Bibby is not a scorer, he is a money shooter off the screen.

I'll keep my eye on Mr Arenas before I pass judgement, but it seems like a candidate for the Trio.

5 apg for a PG is not bad at all. Bobby Jackson is a PG right? I know he averages 20 mpg but he only averages 2 apg. If he was to average 40 mpg like Gilbert, he would average about the same, a bit less.

If he were to become a transcendant super-star in the NBA, then 20 years from now someone could build "Gilbert Arenas Arena" in his honor.

he's a scoring guard. he shoots before he passes. but his assists are pretty good for a guard of any caliber, especially one that shoots and scores so much.

The Warriors wanted desperately to keep him, actually. They couldn't, though, because he was a second-round pick and they didn't have his Bird rights.
