Not only was the form on that shot nice, but the way he side stepped to catch the pass and then reset his feet to take the shot was eye opening.

If Big Papa shows a few more of these games before the season is over, I can see Vlade trade KK this off season for a future draft pick or SF or PG.

That's the type of reactionary move I don't want to see. KK and Papa make great teammates (both Greek). And KK is the type of guy that can fit on any team, even as a third big. I would not be surprised if he had the intention of drafting Papa at the time he signed KK. Vlade seems to have a thing for 7 ft. fundamentally sound European centers. Weird.
Slide Skal over to the three and if WCS and Papa pan out, KK is the perfect backup big. But you need that vet there in the mean time as these guys develop. Papa is only 19.
Tolliver, Temple, KK... absolutely must have vets.

I wouldn't say Papa held his own against Adams. Adams was completely owning us and throwing our guys around like rag dolls. Papa G comes in and Adams is neutralized! Amazing! If Papa had started we would have been in this game to the end I suspect. I was thinking if Papa could develop an offensive game he could be good. Then on cue he pulls out that turn around hook to the glass. Wow I was really surprised. This kid has a lot of potential. Vlade looks pretty smart tonight.
Skal should play a total of 0 minutes all year at sf

Here is the thing, if Skal can not play small forward (which I don't think he can), then you have 0 small forwards with experience and 0 point guards with experience under contract for next year.
You would have 3 centers. KK is in the last year of his contract and if you want to get anything of value for him, instead of lose him for nothing at the end of next year, you would have to trade him in the off season.
It would be for the sake of balancing out the roster, we still need a small forward and a point guard with experience and KK would be our best non-youth tradable asset to do that.

For real? I didn't watch but I can't believe what I'm reading - that Paps played like a grown man and got double digit boards? This is one game after he got stitches in his chin.
Man if Dave Joerger and his staff can help grow some stones on ol Paps we are sitting awfully pretty. I remember a smart guy who used to post here said his concern with Paps was that he lacked any "nastiness" and worried that it could be picked up this late in life.
If Paps can get a little nasty Ostertag type nasty attitude infused, look out - because his shooting is money.
Maybe the 2019 we give up will be a late teens pick after all!!

Thing is he's shown no ability to guard any type of muscle in the post. That could be a problem. The position you can play is the position you can defend best. He's got to find somewhere he can defend. Not unreasonable that that could turn out to be SF. I see him putting on SOME weight, but not a lot. He doesn't have the wide shoulders and frame for much more. I'd rather see him stay light and work on lateral quickness and keep that jumping ability and be a great weakside shot blocker. He'll need a 3 pt. shot too. It's a lot to ask, but he is a hard worker, has great shooting touch, and is adding skills continually.

This was the nicest surprise from him. That and the boards. At 19, he's already solid out to 17 ft.

While yes KK is Greek and has dual citenzenship, you know he was born in Ohio and grew up there.

Yes, we should draft a sf, but you can't go into next year with one rookie small forward.
Having 3 centers that can play is a luxury. We need a veteran starting small forward or point guard more than a 3rd center.
We need to balance the roster.

KK is a really good teammate. I went to a Bighorns game at G1C and KK was sitting right near me (I had courtside for this minor league game - very cool). Anyway KK was hollering out to Paps "go to work" and stuff like that. Cheered enthusiastically when he did well. Really cool camaraderie and mentorship. Garrett too.
Those guys are the right kind of vets to have around - 100%. Give me KK, Garrett, one vet PG we don't have now, and 9 kids.

Papa getting his weight down has helped him so freaking much. In SL when he was out of shape, you never really got the sense he was able to play basketball because he was putting all his energy to getting up and down the court. Last night, we got to see a glimpse of the skill and who he can be as an NBA player.

Why do we have to trade Kofous? He just turned 28 a couple weeks ago. The guy is a stud backup C so if Papa somehow becomes better than him, then why not keep him on in the role he's best at?

KK is a great vet and luxury to have, but he is in the last year of his contract next year and he will command a pretty hefty salary when he becomes a free agent next summer.
With WCS and papa as your future centers, I don't see how you can retain KK next summer.
He will command 12-15 million per year contract next summer, easily. That is not 3rd center money and I don't think he would want to be 3rd center.
This summer will be his highest trade value. His trade value diminishes, the less time he has in his contract. I have no doubt he will leaves us as a very well paid free agent next summer.

Well, if we want to stop losing our players for nothing every summer, then we need to manage our players and their contracts Situations more wisely.
Say, we trade KK for a starting small forward or point guard with a 2-3 year contract, we can always sign a savy vet center for the league minimum or MLE. You want to give as many minutes to WCS and Papa to develop them.

I agree with those who think talk of trading KK at this point is premature at best. Koufos is exactly the kind of experienced big man we need around to make sure our young guys don't pick up bad habits. I'm willing to bet Vlade will pay good money for that kind of veteran presence, especially since he's already a mentor to the kid Vlade seems so fond of.

It's great to think that vlade will pay KK next summer, but it may not be our choice.
KK will command a pretty hefty contract, easily $12-15 million a year, when you see the contract players like Mozgov got last summer.
He will be entering into his prime years and I don't think he would want to be a 3rd center.
Basically you will get one year of mentorship and he will be gone next summer.
That may be worth it, I don't know, but if we can a get a starting small forward or PG in a trade for KK, allowing our lottery picks to have time to develop before we throw them in the fire, I think I would go that route.

The hope is that by next summer Willie and Papa are your 1st and 2nd string centers so you sign a cheap 3rd stringer and let Kosta walk.

At this point I have the confidence Big Papa can be a starting center in this league given age and what he's demonstrated, and that's about a 13th pick

You wouldn't get the other teams starting small forward, but you could get a 2nd string SF or PG, that could be capable of starting for us, someone like Portland's Al farouq Aminu or Spurs Kyle Anderson or Detroit's Stanley Johnson or a back up PG that could potentially start like Chicago's Cameron Payne or Boston's Terry Rozier.

I doubt the Pistons give up Johnson. He's been underwhelming so far, but they invested a high pick in him. He's sort of like WCS, has the tools but needs to harness them.
With that said, I would love to nab him. He's regarded as a great defender with the potential to be elite. His offense is another story... but he's still very, very young (20 yrs).
I don't see the interest in Koufos, either... not with Drummond, Leuer, Ellenson etc... in tow, and having Marjanovic on the hook for $7M a year.
