Geoff Petrie Quotes on the trade

Bench
Kings President of Basketball Operations, Geoff Petrie
“I have to tell you that trading Chris was probably one of the most difficult and emotional decisions that I’ve been involved in professionally. He has been an instrumental part of ushering in an era of basketball here in Sacramento that most of the world at that time did not believe could happen. In that regard, I don’t think myself or anyone in this organization could thank him enough. Those of you who have followed the team over the years that Chris has been here knows that we have been to hell and back. There are a lot of different areas that comprise professional sports. We’ve had fun times, we’ve had times where we suffered—but we’ve had an incredible group here. They’ve given us a tremendous amount of enjoyment and memorable memories. I can’t thank him enough, I wish him the best—but the memories will remain the property of the Sacramento Kings.”

“I think the trade gives us some flexibility and versatility going forward with our roster and we get some additional depth. And Corliss, Kenny, and Brian are quality players who can certainly change the direction for us at this point. I think going forward that it will be beneficial for us."

Did you talk to Chris?
“I did, and I have to tell you that he was incredibly professional on what was obviously a very emotional issue.”

Was it a good conversation?
“We’ve always had, and not that we talked a lot, but on the big things we’ve always had a candid relationship, and that’s how it was.”

“We obviously see a lot more of Chris and the other players on a daily basis than you do and are involved in different aspects of their life. Besides the two hours they spend on the floor, there are a lot of things wrapped in there and it makes it tough. We wish him the very best and I’m sure he is going to do well there.”

When did the trade come about?
“It really all evolved over the last 48 hours, a little bit yesterday and on through today. Most of it really came into a doable thing today.”

“I think we can still have a very good basketball team the remainder of the season. It is going to be a challenge with the amount of change we’ve made now, even going back to the acquisition of Cuttino, because I’m trying to blend in even more new faces with 29 games to go. I have a lot of confidence in our remaining nucleus and hopefully Peja will be back to normal by the end of the week—with Mike, Brad, and Cuttino and Darius coming off the bench, we still have a lot of firepower. I think we’re going to be fine offensively. Regardless of what anybody says, you or me, it’s what shows up on the court. So we’ll see what happens.”

“You can never tell a player that you won’t trade them with no uncertain exceptions. You just can’t do that. You can tell a player that you don’t want to trade them or planning on trading them, but you can’t say that you would never say I wouldn’t trade you. History has proved that it hasn’t panned out very much. It depends on individual situations.”

“With key players, they’re always that sense of sadness when you make a deal. That’s just part of being a human being”

“He was amazing, that’s all I can say.”

Where's the part where he admits he was high the whole time, and really doesn't know where he is or what he is doing?

What he said is all, totally BS. Just look at what he trade Webb for speaks how much respect he has toward Webber.

Cut all the crap Petrie. All Kings nation will remember what you have done to us tonight.

Hopefully Peja will be back by the end of the week? Oh yeah. I am willing to bet money he will not play on Saturday. Call it a hunch...or whatever.

It's going to be a challenge? Oh sweet lord. Hello? Earth to Petrie. A bleeping challenge? To do what? Try and pretend you didn't just gut this team in the middle of the year with no real upside to the trade AT ALL?

I vote that the line "in petrie we trust" be banished from this site for a while... at least until he trades Corliss and Dalempert for Lebron. Cuz I know this trade was just a stepping stone for a HUGE trade with a HUGE upside. Right?

RIGHT?

maybe he's holding out to see if his lawyers can claim that he wasn't in his sound mind at the time?

Bull****. That's all I have to say about that.

How could he possibly say that with a straight face????

How did we get more versatile or flexible? we traded 3 forwards for 3 FORWARDS?!?!? Looks like the exact same versatility. I would argue we got less versatile. Barnes has shown he is able to play point forward and small forward. Webb can play point forward with his range, ballhandling and passing. The guys we got: Corliss is a 6'5" back to the basket small forward who can't board (about as UNversatile as they come). Kenny Thomas is the same as Webb but doesn't board, handle, or shoot as well. Skinner is bench fodder as is Bradley so thats a push.

Looks to me like we got significantly LESS versatile Geoff my boy.

Please at least treat us as fans with a little intelligence and tell us it was to placate Peja don't insult our intelligence by trying to tell us it helped our team. Maybe it was Webbs knee? tell us something except blatant bs.

I think this is more about getting rid of Webber and allowing the rest of the guys to get more shots, probably have the offense that we had last season before Webber came back. I think that, thats the idea, but I don't know how well it is going to work.

One thing is for sure Peja has to step up now.

Really sad though. I guess, now I will have to follow Philly as well.

here's a quote from adelman during monday's practice:

"There is going to be something—something always happens, and I think there will be some movement somewhere. But six of the last seven games, I’ve got more to worry about"

when i read that, i was really confused. i was like "hmm.. maybe we're trading someone?" then i thought it might be peja since all the talk is around him. i then realized that if we were to trade someone, we would not know about it till it's done. so i was like "maybe cwebb?......nah!" i dismissed it at once.. but now.. wow..

also, one poster brought up that cwebb's name wasn't on the statistical leaders on the kings.com website. reina dismissed it as simply being a mistake when they updated the home page. then this afternoon, i was looking at it, and cwebb's name still wasn't there. i got a strange feeling when i saw that cause somone should have corrected the mistake immediately, and that never happened before.

so wow.

It won't work. Vlade and Doug Christie were the keys to that type of offense. There is no one to fill their role on this team anymore, unless you expect Ostertag to run our offense and Mobley (a.k.a. I have to shoot 10,000 times or I'm not playing well) to take Doug's role.

In both cases above, the gap in basketball IQ (and particularly the IQ which the Kings played at in the previous years) is immeasurable.

Good point LMM, I was thiking the samething when I read Adelman's quotes. And I was with Reina on the fact Webb's name was not listed on the Kings.com page thinking it was a mistake and completely dismissed it. I'm still in shock and angry at this trade.

WORD!

A little openness and honesty would go a long way right now towards repairing the gaping wound in Petrie's credibility, at least with the Sacramento fans. GMs all over the league must be kicking themselves for not taking his calls earlier. Just think. We might have been able to get even more disparity if some of Petrie's first calls had been returned.

...

...

Bitter? Me?

Hmmmm. Well, perhaps just a bit. Much like ovrush, I upset about the trade but I am absolutely furious that Petrie seems to think we're all blathering idiots ready to accept any nonsense he reads off a teleprompter.

blech.

I am already pissed at GP. After reading his quotes makes me want to kill myself. What have Kings fans done wrong? We don't deserve this...

The complete lack of sincerity in Petrie's statement is insulting.

And people spent so much time trying to decipher the hidden meaning in Webb's comments? You could write a frickin' novel about what Petrie is not saying.
