Gavin's pro tyreke tirade on draft day...

Still making a fool of himself, but I was going to mention in the grades the next time Reke had a big game that we owed him an apology. Still embarrassed himself, and showed absolutely no feel for the prevailing mood at all, but he, and the front office, were right.

Thought I'd add the youtube for those to refresh their memory or those who havn't seen it...

Still a bit awkward to watch and thats even with Tyreke "beastin."

Eh. I really dont see whats all that bad about it. I dont quite understand what the occasion is. Why is Gavin Maloof standing on a stage in arco talking about how great the pick was? Was it some kind of kings rally?

It was the Kings draft party at Arco -- we had jsut selected Evans, and I think the crowd was visibly upset it was not Rubio. So Gavin hopped on stage to save the day. Unfortunately I think it was too early in the day to blame liquor for that one.

Well, the tirade was still that. He was right, of course, but it still wasn't appropriate for the owner of the franchise to be up there making those kinds of statements. It is however, good to have passionate owners with deep pockets. And...the Maloofs are still a lot better than Cuban. Ironically, Evans didn't really need any time to become a beast, as Gavin cautioned he might.

Gavin was excited. Personally I'm very glad he's emotionally invested in this team we all love.

He didn't embarrass himself and he certainly didn't embarrass me ... but then, I'm another silly Kings homer so what do I know?

Thats what I think. Gavin knew we made the right choice, he was just helping the rest of the fan base see the same way after the vast majority of us had our hearts dashed when we didn't select Rubio.

I think Gavin had a right to be giddy like he was, even as goofy as he sounded, its good to see some positive emotion. If you think he was giddy THIS season...just wait till next...

he did it right after the pick was made. i was a bit stunned when he came on the stage with it. everybody around me was hoping rubio was the selection. i was hoping for rubio too but trust petrie's selection of tyreke so i wasn't upset. i'd say 40% of the people left after rubio wasn't picked. it's good to see a owner enthusiastic about the pick.

Never saw this before. Other than the fact that that man has a degree in communications, I don't have a problem with it. Nothing wrong with a little optimistic enthusiasm.

If he wasn't embarrassed then I was embarrassed for him. I thought he was going to start crying and begging the crowd to see it his way.

It really was an embarrassing display. There's no point in trying to justify it or ignore it or anything else just because he's our owner, or turned out to be right. There are ways you do things. That wasn't it. A little dignity please.

But like I have said, he turned out to be right, so that should take the sting out of making a fool of yourself. Pretty much everything he said would come to pass has been coming to pass. He just needed somebody to grab him before he hopped up on stage and explain the concept of the soft sell, or of public speaking, or preprared remarks or...just anything other than that.

Unfortunately its the youtube age, and when you do something doofy nowadays, it will never die. Twenty years ago only afew thousand people would have seen this, and ever fewer remember it accurately. Nowadays its out there for the whole world, forever.

You're right....he's also too damn rich to blame alcohol for that one too....

Gavin Maloof is passionate about the Kings. I can't believe people are dumping on him for it. He puts it out there like any other fan - he agonizes over the losses and exalts in the wins. He had seen Tyreke work out and he knew how excited his entire front office was about the kid. So he wanted to convince the fans they'd done the right thing...

There's nothing wrong with that. And "embarrassing" is a subjective term. I think people tend to be way too hard on a guy who truly loves the Kings as much as any of us here do, and he's willing to put a hell of a lot of money on the line to show it.

Not only is he totally justified now, but I think everyone is overreacting a bit to his overreaction.

He was pumped. And the truth is, we all should have been too.

I remember Petrie saying a few days after the draft that many people don't like this pick right now, but in six months time they will love it.

Yeah, but you gotta think it was either part of the master plan, or it just worked out favorably and we went with it, that the prevailing sentiment was to draft Rubio, if indeed Petrie wanted Reke all along. And then in the immediate aftermath, the job is to get the fans onboard with you you just "surprise" picked. Gavin's rant is totally understandable, but I might suggest some public speaking or voice coaching though, to more effectively communicate through tone, cause yeah, you could say he does sound a little whiney. I don't mind though, I understand his emotion, and I'm glad he showed it. Couldn't have worked out any better for us.

The Maloof bashing is lame and tiring... they are some of the best owners in sports... yea, I said it... the best owners...

Seriously, who would you complainers prefer? Cuban? Or maybe some 80 year old billionaire that never shows for games? How about a no face corporation? Maybe a Russian stock market tycoon?... ooo, I know, a penny pinching talent bleeding bean counter?...

The Maloofs are passionate, like Sacramento, want a winning team, and know basketball... they are some of the best owners in sports. If we ever get any big name free agent who wants to come to Sac, it's not because we have such an interesting city.... it's because they know the Maloofs want a winning team... ...

I agree with both sides on this one. Some how Im of the opinion that as an owner there are things you can and cant do. This probably fell into the latter category. However, Im VERY glad the kings have passionate ownership and I certainly see that as major positive quality.

I literally did a fist pump when I was watching the draft and saw the Kings take someone other than Rubio lol

did't obama also suggest tyreke to the maloofs (read it somewhere)

one good thing about gavin is that he is this passionate about the team...

Gavin is an emotional guy. You can see it every game. He lives and dies on every play.

I like his pasion for the King's to be a winning team again. How would you feel with somebody like Donald Sterling as the owner?

All I saw was an excited owner committed to winning and that's a good thing.

I did not think it was embarrassing at the time. My thoughts were "wow, we have an owner who gets so excited about this team, he can't even get his words out." Pretty cool.

Now, he not only looks like a passionate owner, but also someone who knows what he is talking about.
