Garcia > Salmons

The faster the better.

Shockingly the same exact player he was a few years ago. The only thing left to test is if he still turns into a pouting crybaby when he doesn't get his starter minutes.

He really does not seem to be fitting in well at all. I wasn't a fan of his the first time around, and I'm still not.

Well we couldn't have Thorton, Beno, Tyreke, and Jimmer on the team at the same time. I am already worried about a minutes crunch without Beno on the team. Shockingly, Salmons is the same player that he was when he was here last. Good enough to defend smaller 3s and larger 2s, can create his own shot, doesn't pass. Still a better player than Garcia. I think his contract is too long, but he is good enough to be a starter on a playoff team and for now that is good enough.

Disagree. He's good enough to be a starter on a 25 win team, and as long as he starts for us, thats what we'll be.

Well he has started on playoff teams 2 of the last 3 years. Chicago in 09 and for the Buck in 10. So unless his play falls off a cliff, he is good enough.

"Pay" Is meaningless in my opinion. He is one of the highest payed players on our team because Evans and Cousins are still on their rookie contracts.

Salmons has been fine. He takes 1 or 2 SSPG (New Kings stat I just invented .. selfish shots per game) which is less then Thornton/Evans/Cousins. And his defense has been good for the most part. He is such an easy target, and he has a bad reputation .. but really, he has been ok so far.

I'm glad you aren't the GM. With that approach, you could eat up cap-space like it's going out of style.

Way to take one line of my entire post completely out of context! I'm glad you aren't a journalist.

I sincerely hope you actually understand my point. Salmons wouldn't be on this team if Evans and Cousins were making what they should be making.

The fact is we have room for Salmons contract right now. It is not killing us ... it isn't stopping us from doing anything we want to do. And his game on the court isn't doing that either.

I'd say the much bigger problem right now is the fact that we have a 5+ million dollar a year player riding the bench. THAT is what I call eating cap space. And I love Cisco to death. I like him way more than Salmons, but I do think Salmons is an upgrade over what Cisco gave us at the SF spot last season.

Context is irrelevant here. There's no possible context that would make "Pay Is meaningless" not a dubious statement. Yes i understand your point but 8$ million is still 8$ million. It's just not good to have that kind of money tied up in a player who isn't producing much. It ties up money that could be used on trades or in free agency. That's why i liked the Outlaw pickup so much. if he produces, great, you got a steal. but if he doesn't, at 3$ million per he isn't going to have too much negative impact on your payroll either.

I wish Salmons would buy into wanting to be a defensive stopper. He plays above avg D, but he cant resist being a chucker

I agree, Salmons is doing pretty decent at this point. Kept us in the game in the first quarter last night. Made a smart foul to stop Rose's fastbreak layup and shot 50% from 3PT territory(and was probably the only King who shot 100% from the FT Line).

I really don't think Salmons has been that bad so far; main issue is he won't make that extra pass, Jimmer does a good job of leaking out but he is looked for maybe once a game. Salmons is a culprit but there are others too.

Salmons is not remotely the problem with this team right now.

Right now, it's the whole team not getting back on runouts, Tyreke's inability to create and make his own shot against set defenses, selfish possessions that lead to bad shots (low %), and the coaching (substitutions, no offensive plays whatsoever, etc) that are killing the team.

Salmons, MT, and Jimmer actually make some plays against a set defense. Salmons was the best penetrator on the team against the Bulls' set defense. He scored almost half the times he penetrated. And yes, the Kings need someone to score against a good halfcourt defense. They can't rely on Tyreke anymore in the halfcourt - he's proven he can't.

Oh - and Cisco was nailing his practice shots more than anyone on the Kings team that I watched during the Bulls game.
He seemed to have a really good touch from 3 - I'd at least give him a few minutes out there to see how his shot is this year - it looks like he's been working on it quite a bit.

No chance at minutes though with so much clutter ahead of him on longterm contracts.

I wonder if Donté shouldn't get a shot tomorrow. It looks like Amare might be out, which would mean that the Knicks are going to lean real heavily on Carmelo. Donté might have a better chance of slowing down the Carmelo Attack than Salmons, simply due to size.

Then again, there's a difference between "should" and "will".

Id like to see Salmons do less driving and dribbling. Leave the ballhandling to Thornton, Jimmer, and Tyreke, even if they arent particularly excelling at it, it'll help to define their roles to some extent. Play defense and hit the spot up 3.

Id like to see Garcia get some time as well. IMO hes actually a really good defensive player when hes matched up with big guards and short small forwards. Doesnt do too much on offense, stretches the floor, can hit the 3 well, and is a willing passer in both the open and half court. Probably one of our better off ball cutters as well. It wouldnt hurt, but who knows if hes even in WP's game plan at the moment.

I actually think Salmons is pretty good at driving but we can wait a few games to see.

I don't have a clue as to why Garcia isn't getting any minutes. I'd rather see Garcia on the court than Outlaw. I am hoping there is some method to this SF madness (or "clutter" as Brick says) but I fear not.
