Games around the NBA 11/13

Lakers beat the TMac-less rockets, and Kobe *only* scores 19, gets 20 from Lamar Odom, and adds 11 rebounds.

Jazz spank the Pistons by 15, Boozer/Kirilenko/Okur abuses Big-Ben-less Pistons front line.

I was listening...Raefer and Rose led a huge comeback for the Raptors in the 4th quarter with Vince on the bench, but the Raptors couldn't close the deal and lost the game down the stretch.

That Rose dunk over Ratliff was impressive, especially considering Ratliff's reputation as a shotblocker.

Dirk had 31/7/7/4 against the Nets in a win and followed it up with 32/13/5 against the Wizards in a win.

We are 7-1 and our next game is against the Suns on Tuesday night. Nash v Nowitzki, the friendly version of Shaq v Kobe. Should be fun.

If I were a Mavs fan I'd might be as concerned as I was last year with the Kings. Lets call a spade a spade and make note of the Mavs fairly kind shed.

But Dirk is playing out of his mind.

this is gonna be dirk's big break out year, i think. he's gonna be in the mvp runnings for sure. he's playing at the top of his game, and recognizes that he has to pick up more of the slack now that nash is gona and finley is injured. the guy is playing with a will. he's friggin unstoppable. i dont look forward to our next game against the mavs.

He finally had one summer off. I think this is the main reason...

Dirk's numbers =

27.9pts (.518 FG, .519 3pt, .823 FT) 9.8rebs 3.6ast 1.6stl 1.4blk 3.0TO

early, but those are legit MVP numbers. Leading the hottest team in the league right now.

damn he's good. i'll probably get flamed for this, but i wanna say that it is much more sensible to think of dirk nowitzki as the next "larry bird" rather than peja stojakovic. dirk's just so much more versatile. he's a real scary talent.

but about that "hottest team" bit. didnt the mavericks go like 14-0 at the start of last season? and where did they finish in the rankings? i cant really remember, but i know they had a pretty big cooling off period at mid-season. i think they are a mroe stable team this season with some quality big men and a lotta quality guards. they are kinda weak at the one-spot, altho they're rookie pg is very talented. theyre gonna be good, but i dont know if i would count on them remaining in the first place spot for too long.

Why would you get flamed for that? It's absolutely true.

To be fair, though, Dirk's back to the basket game, his rebounding and the fact that he plays down low more often than Peja are the things that set the two apart in my mind. Peja's great and all (when he wants to be and feels like it), but Dirk is doing it all lately.

That was two years ago when Dallas was 14-0.

Last year Dallas started 15-12 and never fully got going until Nellie turned to small ball by putting Daniels into the starting lineup and moving Walker to center. That style worked in the regular season at home but in the playoffs it was proven ineffective.

Thank you! I thought it was two years ago, but didn't want to say anything for fear of looking stupid. {{{6th is glad no one can see her}}} :p

This year Dallas won't have to go the small ball route, though, with Dampier anchoring the middle. It will be interesting to see how Nellie distributes minutes at the 2/3 spots when all four of his players (Finley, Stackhouse, Daniels and Howard) are healthy.
