I moved your post, Carole. You put it in the prediction game thread and I thought it deserved its own little spot.

So did the Ms win?

The ladies were awesome tonight! It looked like our team in the midst of its championship playoff run.

Absolutely stifling defense.

Smothering.

Katie Smith...non-factor...ZERO field goals.

Swin Cash...non-factor...ONE bucket, only 4 attempts.

Deanna Nolan...somewhat of a factor, but she only shot 2-10 from the field.

Shock as a team was shooting only 18% from the field in the game with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. They wound up at 27%, and so I wonder if that is a Monarchs team D record or not for a game?

Brunson was the animal I thought she would be all this season with her career high in points (18) and awesome effort off the glass, 2 short of a double-double.

Yo quietly pocketed a nice 13 points in the first half and held Ruth Riley at bay.

Haynie was the best point on the floor tonight, playing well at both ends.

Nicole, not known for her D, was, I thought, stellar on that end tonight. She really worked and was effective.

And I just love Erin Buescher...she went 12/5 in only 15 minutes tonight. She was tough against a very physical opposing front line. If she isn't the league MIP, then something is definitely wrong with the voters.

And nice to see Kim Smith drain all 3 of her treys in the second half. Great for her confidence.

Let's hope this is the catalyst to keep the drive alive all the way into the playoffs.

Monarchs are now 17-0 over the last 2 seasons with da 1Kingzfan in da house. :D

Uh oh, Steve. This isn't good. Buescher is my favorite Monarchs player, too.

I hope we don't upset the balance of the universe or throw off the space-time continuum by actually agreeing on something.

:p

1Kingzfan, you obviously need to take your act on the road with them ;) AND definitely make sure you are at all remaining and potential Monarchs home games for the rest of the year. ;)

I've thought Nicole's defense all season has been a marked improvement for her, but she very much limited Cash's touches and any ability to do anything with the ball when she did have it.

Brunson - two words....she's baaaaaaaaaaaaack. That block on Riley was a house-bringer-downer....and its nice to see her touch and range come back. I also thought she was going to smack Plennette Pierson at some point. She had had enough, and she also went over to one of the refs to make sure they knew what Pierson was doing.

Apparently, when Katy Smith runs you over, no matter how set you are, its not a foul - at least not in the first half it isn't. I don't know which charge/"blocking foul" was the more spectacular collision...Ticha in the open floor or any of the 2-3 bulldozings Buescher received.

Any mobility problems Yo has, she sucked it up tonight. She spun off of I believe Braxton and shot over her and I swear I saw the vintage 1999 Yo.

Yes Kim Smith...good things happen when you shoot the ball sometimes...much better than what tends to happen when you dribble the ball into a double team along the baseline like you have a habit of doing.

I'm done hoping this (and other similar occurances in the past) are catalysts for anything good they might do from here on out. It HAS to be, they are running out of time to figure out how to fix things and have them work consistently. Whatever glue, duct tape, staples etc they need to keep the wheels on and grit themselves through the rest of this month, they better find it. I'll be in my seat with my apoxy too, this has to be the way they look until August ends and by any means necessary I'm gonna do my part to make sure it does...;)

And...was the officiating in the first half of this game atrocious or what. Geewhiz. I was ready to storm the court to make sure the female ref in this horrible crew at least appear to have been watching our game and not some other game - because nothing she was calling remotely looked like anything that happend on the floor at ARCO. This was the first time I thought Roy Gulbeyan $(R#$ major wind. I usually like him.

You & me both MBF...only thing stopping me was getting kicked out & missing that butt kicking. It was so sweet to see our Monarchs match that ''BAD GIRL'' mentality. Not only that but they shut up Coach Lambier once & for all in the 2nd half. All's he could do was shake his head.

What a physical game....maybe thats what we needed to get that toughness back., we were very stingy with our Defense & our offense was out of sight, everyone was looking to score. Kim Smith got some confidence. I must give props to the coaching staff, they have faith in all players.
Last, the fans were great....we really got loud & played a role. Brunson mentioned the fans in her interview following the game.

Some of us ran into DeMaya at Applebee's we congratulated her!

Great game tonight, a great first game for the lil man to come to. Big thanks to NBH for giving him the Monarchs necklace, he barely let it go the rest of the night! He was still playing with it when we got home tonight.

Glad to see the team keep their composure through that first half when we couldn't get a call to save our lives. It looked like it would be a loooong night if all the calls continued to go Detroit's way. But the Monarchs took care of business and played their game.

Oh, and welcome back Bekkah! This is the kind of performance that we've been missing from her. She's been coming around for a little while now, but she broke on through tonight and played a great game.

What a ball game!!:D

First I have to give it up to the Monarchs fans on last night. When I walked into the building right at tip off, THE CROWD WAS CHARGED WITH ELECTRICITY. The intensity in that building in the first half was playoff intensity....L.A. Sparks intensity. In fact i do believe that the fans were responsible for rattling the refs. Because in the 1st half there were some horrible calls. Especially the two blocking fouls on Bueschler. Those calls went our way in the 2nd half.

GOOD JOB MONARCH FANS!!!

Secondly, I have to give mad love to "Becky" Brunson. She is straight up ballin'. She has in my opinion exceeded expectation and has gotten out of a serious funk. I saw her at the Season Ticket Holder BBQ after the game against Seattle and her body language was lousy. But she is our Cheryl Ford. She and DeMya Walker can make the difference.

Thirdly here is the Monarchs front line (Yo, Buchsler, Walker, Brunson) box score:

FG 16-27
FT 22-26
Pts 54
Reb 23 (Offensive 11)
Steals 4
Turns 5

However I am still concerned about Ticha. It seems like her minutes are slipping and Haynie's production far out weighs hers.

Ticha is still very much bringing it on the defensive side. She is also running the offense very well, even though her assists have slipped. But if you watched carefully last night, the Shock defenders gave her ALL KINDS OF ROOM to shoot the ball from 15 ft or beyond (probably the trend on the season?). Ticha shot maybe once or twice from there but most often chose to drive into the teeth of the defense to try make something happen.

That is a liability on O.

Haynie was superb last night and also does a nice job running the O. She is confident with her 15 to 17 ft jumper. So I have no problems with her getting the minutes when she is performing so well. I had originally thought that we let the wrong person go in the expansion draft, but after watching Haynie last night, I think Whiz made an excellent decision.

Despite all this, I'd rather have Ticha in there at crunch time in a close game, rather than Kristin. HOWEVER, if the Monarchs are in a late catch-up situation, I would have to go with Kristin.

Part of Purple Reign's post:
...However I am still concerned about Ticha. It seems like her minutes are slipping and Haynie's production far out weighs hers.
Another Monarch whose numbers is slipping is Erin Buescher. After such a hot start in June and most of July, her stats and minutes seem to have dropped. Why is that?

Is it because of DeMya slowing getting back into the swing of things?

I think teams are keying on Erin...she is getting double teamed & drawing the attention of opposing coaches. I still like her energy & skills. Coach W. did mention she needed to rebound the ball or her minutes would drop off some.

I still love Erin,s game starting or coming off the bench.

Erin has has the Flu for the last 2 weeks according to the Family. She is just starting to get some of her wind back.
I agree with Mostly everything everyone has said.
Have very little to add.

I think the Improvement of DeMya has help Brunson's Improvement as well. I don't think you can measure the importance of having her back. But Yeah Bekkah was outragious Last night.

I think Haynie is coming along just fine. And Ticha is gonna be Ticha. She will lead, and she will play defense. But if we need points she will sit. We are balanced enough to do that.

Kim Smith had ONE good shooting night. But I do like that she knocked down open shots and spread the floor. That does please me and it gets her out of the Corner. She is so goofy and hard not to like. And I hate having to fire her all the time. So it was nice to see her knock shots down.

Nicole on Swin Cash. LOCKED DOWN CLINK CLINK

The only thing I would love to have seen was, a Monster Monster Pick on Katie Smith. But then again we responded the best way. We opened a Can of Whoop *** On them instead.

I am looking forward to the Houston Match Up. Need that game and Need the LA game.

Fun... Fun... Fun... Great Night at Arco
