I don't think it is fair to deny Pete the credit for nabbing Collison, or to call it lucky. He deserves credit for seeing a move or two ahead there. But extending Cuz, I don't know any modestly intelligent person who would not have made that same call - that one isn't worthy of any kind of "credit" imo.

It has become de reguer to bash Pete for everything under the sun. I'm sure guiltier than most. But honestly, imo he has been fine + overall on personnel decisions, not so good at PR. Everyone knows how I feel about Malone but, I'm going to hope off Pete's back now - whats done is done.

I believe the front office is trying to do the right thing. I think they blundered badly (maybe tragically) in the Malone firing - but, as they say in bridge (I am that old and square)... "lets play the next one". It is not going to help any of us to our goals if we beat him to a pulp here or on social media for the old Malone firing. He obviously wants to do a deliberate and disciplined search for the next coach and is not going to knee-jerk a George Karl hire. He's not even going to do it if I call him mean names on fan boards or twitter!

whew - I'm not feeling so well - I have to go lie down now.

I can agree with some of this, specifically bad angles putting refs into a bad spot to make the call. That being said if the refs didn't cost the kings this game, they certainly put an end to their chances by the last two jokes of calls on Cousins. With the way he was getting mauled up to that point and them calling none of it, they needed to just lay off the whistle all together. Those two calls say one of two things to me: they are not good referees due to their inconsistency, or they let their dislike of Demarcus sway the way they call the game. In either circumstance they were pretty awful, regardless of the difficulty that comes with officiating NBA basketball. They chose to be referees, they know the difficulty of the job, do the job better or IMO they aren't good at what they do.
it is so incredibly easy for you, as an outsider, to sit there and critique 2 calls out of how many that they made throughout a game. That being said, yes they were bad. But, there were plenty of other calls throughout the game that were right. All in all the referees make far more good calls then they do bad. To think that they would never ever make a mistake is just ludicrous. These guys (and gals) are graded every single night. statistics show these guys make about 95 percent of their calls correct. You want to just focus on the few.

Yes, the vast majority of us are outsiders. That's not the point. The point is when calls as so egregious that even fans of the opposing team comment about them, it seems fairly obvious they might not have been good calls. And it's a league-wide problem. Flopping was supposed to be addressed years ago. It wasn't and now a whole new crop of officials seems determined to ignore even the most obvious. That's wrong, it's bad for the game and it needs to be pointed out until it's corrected. That should be true whether you're an "outsider" or not.

I couldn't agree with you more that flopping is an epidemic, but that is not the officials fault. We HATE flopping. But that being said, sometimes it doesn't look like a flop from the angle we have. I guarantee you that they looked at that play immediately after the game and were pissed. The league needs to either come up with a better way to curtail it or it will have to be accepted as part of the game. The only way I see it being corrected is allowing challenges on the part of coaches like football and baseball so the official can see it on tape. Otherwise it will never change. It will still come down to angle.

I thought the flops were reviewed after the game. It doesn't seem that difficult. Fine the flopper which is what I thought was supposed to be the case and make it a sizable fine.

The flop in the game is not corrected and the punishment will not alter the game but if you fine a guy who makes a couple million a year, $100,000, he will think twice about any future flops. Eventually the serial floppers might stop especially if the amount of the fine increased with each flop. Even the richest player will hit a fine level that makes a difference to him.

I think the integrity of the game is involved and the NBA should take it seriously.
