Fox Watch 2025

Imagine if we had to deal with trying to trade him this summer in a stagnant market while he was apparently in the throes of a mysterious hammy injury.
Imagine if we had to do it AND that he tanked the market for every team except the one that has drafted two point guards at #4 and #2 in the past two years!

“Well, we really don’t need him but if you insist, you can have Devin Vassell’s huge contract, maybe Keldon Johnson, and a pick in 2030”

Wow that's awful for him, he hasn't signed an extension unless they just haven't bothered to report it. I have a feeling there will be waves of players in the next year or two (Kuminga may also be in this boat?) that passed up on a lucrative extension when they were first eligible/offered that wind up getting frozen out under this CBA. There's absolutely no reason for SA to commit long term until he is unrestricted next season at this point.

Hopefully Keegan gets locked down soon.

It’s not scamming a bunch of people out of their money by launching your own Crypto token and bailing after like a month but it’s not great.

Also the man needs to figure out if he wants to grow a beard or not because the current underbeard look ain’t it.
Yeah also not a fan of the under beard, or Fox himself for that matter, but possibly I won’t think of Boris from the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons when I see his mug.

San Antonio Spurs point guard De'Aaron Fox is eligible to sign a four-year deal with the team for up to $229 million this summer, but one NBA insider has gone on the record to caution the Spurs against signing Fox to such a lucrative extension. On his podcast on Friday, ESPN's Bobby Marks explained why a Fox extension may not be the wisest idea for San Antonio at this point in its development as a franchise. "De'Aaron Fox is eligible (for the) same numbers as Luka," Marks said.

Mod note - I moved this from the RSS feed to this thread in case folks wanted to discuss. We don't need any additional Fox threads - pdx.

I knew we'd have to pay the max and thought we might regret it. I'm really surprised they didn't negotiate a deal that would be more favorable to building that team out before they lock in Wemby and Castle. Spotrac hasn't updated but they will lose Barnes in 26-27 but Fox will eat up that space if they don't retain him.

I dont think giving Fox the max is the worst move if you already have Wemby.

Kings giving Fox a max would have been a friggin disaster though haha
Yeah but in 4 years when Harper is due his extension and they have 30% of their cap to Wemby and another 25% to Castle, that's 85% between 3 players. That's a problem unless they have dethroned OKC and everyone else.

I’m really surprised that last year isn’t even a player option. That means both sides are essentially stuck with the deal until he gets traded or the deal expires.

De'Aaron Fox has agreed to a four-year contract extension for $229 million. With the San Antonio Spurs, ESPN reported Monday (August 4, 2025). The Spurs acquired Fox from the Sacramento Kings in February, and he was slated to become an unrestricted free agent after this coming season. Fox, 27, averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists over 17 games (all starts) for San Antonio.

In theory he'd be eligible for more after 10 years of service but he's not gonna opt out of this deal. I imagine negotiating with Rich Paul went like "hey listen, we completely tanked his value to insure you got him for nothing, pay the man"

This is going to work out great when Rich Paul tries to poach the guys on rookie deals by saying "yo, look what I did for Fox".

The problem with Fox is that he is not a good shooter nor does he have great court vision. His only special trait is his speed.

He is one injury away to his lower body /legs to render him a way below average point guard. If that were to happen, the contract becomes one of the worst in the league.
