Former King Jon Barry to ESPN.....

I don't know if anyone caught this, but in the media insider section that is in the Bee every Friday it said Jon Barry will be working for ESPN this year as a studio analyst during the games. I think that is a good hire by ESPN. I also read that Allan Houston is close to finalizing a deal with ESPN for a similiar position.

Nice to see him back working in the sports media. I remember years ago he worked that one NBA TNT show. Has he retired for good from basketball now?

From what I understand, he's retired for good from playing. But, if he's anything like his dad, I expect we'll see him around the court for a long time.

Hope you had a happy birthday, BTW, Diva!!

The title could have also read "Former Laker Jon Barry..." ;)

(Just messin' with ya'll.) :p

Or former Rocket, Jon Barry :D

But yes, he has retired for good. He came back for one more year with Houston because he was just enamored with Van Gundy for whatever reason. And he injured himself mid season and never really made it back onto the court. He retired in the middle of the year and then preceded to be the Rockets color guy on our telecasts for a few games. He's not bad but considering his personality, he should be very good. The guy is very funny and will be in the media for a while.

Jon Barry to join ESP announcing crew

- Jon Barry, who ended a 14-year NBA career in retiring from Houston last season, will team with Bill Walton and Tirico on ESPN games. Barry, son of Hall of Famer Rick Barry, replaces Steve Jones. Jones played with Walton at Portland three decades ago and called games with him at ABC and, earlier, on NBC - serving as a sensible guy and the perfect foil for Walton's sometimes otherworldly sensibilities.

- Mark Jackson becomes ABC's lead analyst, replacing Hubie Brown. He'll team with Mike Breen, who last season became the network's lead NBA play-by-play announcer when Al Michaels left to work NFL games at NBC.

I get this feeling Mark Jackson will be real bad and I'd miss Hubie, but ABC's NBA coverage is worthless. I look forward to seeing JB do a Kings game.
