I was almost ready to accept him serving out this year as a lame duck until I realized he’s only on year 3 of 4
The longer he's here, the longer we have to wait to have any chance at watching a winning team.

He shouldn't have survived last year, and that might come back to haunt Monte. Should he even have had a say in the matter that is. He can survive for sure. But if he hasn't gotten out of his own way yet, it ain't going to happen, and as seen, he can always just go right back to the bad at any moment.

And the scary thing is there are possibly even worse options out there so don't question this franchise's ability to just make it worse in the end. haha. The good news though is even if they do then higher draft picks result along with a likely rebuild so there is a direction at least. Walton is a players coach, his guys like him, and he does seem to make sense a predictable portion of the time. The bad news is that the bad comes back at literally the worst possible moments. And instead of little blips he tends to create landslides when completely unnecessary.

Yeah, but coaches like him don't usually survive regardless. He was literally the definition of lame duck when the franchise decided to shift gears. This isn't Monte's coach, or at least he shouldn't be. This franchise continues to fight history and bet on the smallest percentages of things paying off. Incompetence.

On the one hand, Alvin Gentry isn't a huge upgrade over Luke. On the other hand, the Kings would at least look competent on offense and dudes generally enjoy playing for him.

the new norm in the NBA is giving former NBA players with no coaching experience head coaching opportunities, so it's not completely out of the question. Albeit, Bobby has been on the staff for a good while but just recently was given an opportunity to head coach their G-League squad

This. A new coach would be nice for the fanbase and would probably lead to a few more wins, but this is still not a well constructed team. Luke being let go is a step in the right direction, but I'd hope it wouldn't be the only big move done this year.

Buddy gave an impassioned speech after the third quarter slaughter to try and rally the troops. And when Fox was on the bench, Doug Christie was in his ear the entire time dropping knowledge. When he went back in, he was like the Swipa we know and they went on that massive run.
It seems like guys are seeking leadership elsewhere and responding to everyone not named Luke Walton. This core of players has always responded to emotional, relatable leaders. In tough games, night after night, Walton doesn't have what it takes to keep them locked in.

Im gonna start this by agreeing with almost everyone that Walton is a bad coach. But I’m not buying some catastrophic locker room thing happened to lose everyone over the span of the last 4 games. The players loved him enough to get him brought back, and we were above 500 with nary a care in the world a week and a half ago. Were they passionless and joyless when they blew Charlotte off the floor? Naaaa
Badly coached bad teams will look bad for extended stretches. More breaking news at 7.

It's amazing how quick the finish can be when it's been this long and drawn out with no changeover. Guys eventually play for something else, themselves, teammates, fans, whatever. Rarely will this sport become totally joyless for players because of any coach. But those stretches when it does is pretty hard to watch. He's clearly lost his guys at times before. Never all at once, nor permanently. He's a master politician. That's my guess at least. He's certainly not a master coach but there is some pretty major skill he possesses somewhere to be able to keep a full locker room revolt from happening.
