Week 7 Results

It didn’t take long, but Nancgo earned her first chalais for week win…She I’m sure hearts Sue Bird a whooooooooole bunch for crap…eh…capping her week, otherwise she had fantastic performances from her selected players last week. Congratulations! We have another “It Ain’t Easy Being Green” green jacket to award this week too, supadupapimp shot a stunning 3 under par this week thanks in part to his new favorite player Ashley Shields who cut to the chase (and dropped the “or”) and um..doubled nothing. And this my record setting score falls. Supa is awarded the first ever Billy Preston award for Nothin' from Nothin...(doubled that is...) Although some folks play like they should have stats subtracted from them, I think the best we all can hope to do is tie. Work hard folks and you too can have your name engraved on the Billy Preston Doughnut Plaque

The theme this week for the overall race is brought to us by Hanson….”Mmmmmbop.” The overall race tightened a bit as mdme and mamabristow closed ranks 6 points behind mitsukosan. Mluv13fan trails this group by 9, while msupadupapimp, mcometsluv4play, monty’sbiggestfan and mnancgo are all hanging around waiting for the riiiiiiiight moment to spring into the lead pack. Seriously, it’s gonna happen any week now (or combination of several weeks before the end of competition…with a lotta help ;))

I would say Damn you Janelle Burse...
But why bother....

As bad as folks turned on me last week Being a Janelle Burse day away from the 2 and 3 spots is somewhat of a miracle.

This actually turned out to be an interesting game. Still want that VGM back but Hey this is gettig to be very fun.

Damn You Janelle Burse.

Week 8 Results

All hail the greatness that was Sydney Spencer on a single game day! (Thank you Christi Thomas for being brilliantly stellar that night as well, I was going for lowest score this week!). What an interesting week it twas…lotta great individual performances and ooooh what a night it would have been to take a flier on “rookie” Maltsi for the Connecticut Sun the other night as she stepped in for Sales. Her fantasy numbers HAVE to be a record for the season thus far. Or anybody in any of the record setting games that apparently decided to converge into one week.

This week’s chalais is sponsored by Doublemint as we have two,… two,… two people in on spots not only once, but appropriately TWICE. We had a barn-burning squeaker this week, the race was incredibly tight with the moving and shaking contining until the very last ball bounced on Sunday. Ties both at the top spot and for fourth.

Congratulations to multiple mythical hardware collectors supadupapimp and nancgo who now have 5 between them. I was trying again for the Green Jacket, but my putting was off (Christi Thomas just played WAAAAAAAY too well this week for me to get the jacket), couldn’t quite lower my score enough, mr4play did 4 shots better than me thanks to allstar Kara Braxton. Eh yay 4play? Congrats.

Overall…

M’s row was infiltrated by luv13fan who returned this week to the top three. Those of you watching the weekly movement may have noticed (or is it just me because I can hear her footsteps?) that Nancgo has made up significant ground after spotting me (um, the field) a couple of weeks worth of points. Overall, the lead group continues to stay bunched up, the king of the chase pack even has jumped back into the fray.

Short week coming up with the allstar break chopping it up, will it be a standings changing week? Stay turned…good luck everyone… (I’m just saying that to be polite, I need to roll all y’all ahead of me the next few weeks, like by A LOT – nothing personal ;))

Short week made for short spurts. Congratulations to Mitzukosan for winning her second chalais! Congratulations too for managing to be one of the few leaguers to get a solid performance from Michelle Snow...that's like bucking lotto odds.

Some sort of kudo or something is in order for Nancgo for managing to make it through the rash of ACL injuries plaguing the league this past week...she had Lindsey Harding :( and Erin Buescher:( and still managed to finish third in pts for the week. Special shout out to a player I didn't heart before and CERTAINLY don't heart now for crashing my final day last week...thank you SOO much Erin Thorn

No real change for the overall standings this week...since the DJ took the allstar break off, no musical theme to accompany the readin of the scores...you can hum your favorite song as you peruse the standings tho...;)

Week 10….shoot, I though I had all but locked up my green jacket this week but somehow Supa snuck in on the backdoor of an 18th hole meltdown and took it away from me, sorta like what happened in Carnoustie over the weekend…I feelya Sergio, I feelya brother….;) Mitzukosan cleared her third chalais with a win over the rest of the field in which she was the only one to break triple digits. Congratulations! We nearly had another Billy Preston award to dole out but Cheryl Ford didn't actually grace us with a minute of floor time.

U2 brings us our musical theme for the overall standings through week 10. Stuck in A Moment You Can’t Get Out Of…we had several people trying to make gains, some did and some will need to wait til next week (borrowing liberally from the Brooklyn Dodgers fans - I mean seriously, isn’t baseball simply a metaphor for life?). We had close races up and down the standings coming into to the week and interesting jockeying finished the week. We had movement in the top three, near movement in the rest. On to week 11.

Week 11 Results

Since once wasn’t enough, congratulations to mamabristow for taking a second mythical chalais. I was edged out by two points thanks to a rather blase performance by Becky Hammon, thanks Becky, you really couldn’t hit another couple of baskets last night huh? ;) But really Cathy Joens? The day after I pick her she goes on a scoring/rebounding/assisting barrage. I will also take credit for Stacy Dales’ resurgence while I’m at it. Her numbers have been ridiculous since I played her and she did nothing. Strangely, the same thing happened to Chasity Melvin….Sensing a pattern? Don’t think I’m not going to play this for all its worth. I’m going to look for my compensation in the mail should the Sky make the playoffs once I point this out to their upper management. We have another green jacket to award….thanks in large part to two words…Katie Feenstra. I’m sure several people felt the Feenstra pain this week. Connnnnnversely tho, as you may have noticed, we have co-presidents of the We HEART Janel McCarville club.

I’m going with either Kris/Kross or House of Pain this week since mamabristow jumped back into the top three. Mitzukosan is still trying to pull away from the lead pack and make enough free throws to ice the game. Its now a Lauren Jackson possession game with 4 more weeks to go, still plenty of time to sink a quick rookie and high end player to get closer and take this thing. Just need to get some stops. :) For spots 2-4, still anybody’s ball game. Heck, there’s not even an underperforming star player deficit separating them. Now, for spots 5-8, believe it or not we’re in a tight race too! I mean sure, weird stuff can happen and we can actually get closer than 5…but it can happen theoretically….sorta and that’s the important “glass half full” point of view (cue the opening strains from “Tomorrow”.) But amongst ourselves there is a lot of room to move and it should be a fun race to the finish. On to week 12….

Players.. As we reach the end of the season, there’s no more appropriate time to start thinking about fantasy standouts…and by standouts I do mean “stand outs” After we conclude week 15 and sip the champagne along with our fantasy league winner, we need to follow the real league and dole out some post season awards! Start thinking about a list of five players you would nominate for the following post season allstar teams

  • All “Played Her Too Late to Catch Her Gravy Train” team
  • All “Doris Burke Commemorative “We See You [Fill In the Name of a BreakOut Performer Here]” team
  • All “Just like the Gap Band …You Dropped A Bomb On Me” team.

A wise sage once said "Happiness is a Warm Puppy" naw..for us, happiness CLEARLY is a decent rookie showing up when you call her number (doubled)....(cue Nelly's "#1")...We have a new chalais recipient with Luv13's win for the week. Congratulations! Now checking back through the annals, everybody in the league has at least one as we head down the home stretch. We also have a new receipient for the green jacket and what appears to be a new course record. VJ's late scratch and a mediocre day from Monique Currie sealed the deal here, and gave Nancgo the birdies necessary to take it to the clubhouse...

Bonnie Raitt supplies our musical background for the review of the overall scores. "Let's Give Them Something To Talk About" because except for Luv13's move in the standings, nothing else changed and I would have had to find a song to reflect that. Luv13's strong week closes the Mitzukosan's lead coming into the week.(Free throws, have we not learned the importance of making FTs late? ;) ) and slides her into 2nd place. The lead has been cut to 41, with 3 weeks to go...still a two or three possession game with the right picks. Who will make week 13 lucky?......

Final Scores and Highlight Show lol

For one final time we’ll recap some scores, award some chali and green jackets, hand out a big honkin trophy, sip some champagne and reminisce on the season that twas in the good ol’ WNBA Pick One Challenge league for us KingsFans.commers. Apologies for the recapping hiatus. And man, I missed giving myself a chalais for my win in week 13, shoot. Yay to me and whoever it was I took that week to get me there, I love you all! (except the one player who had a single digit performance instead of blowing up so I could make an big comeback – that player MIGHT make my post season award list thankyouverymuch!). Green jacket to nancgo, who had to play around some sandtraps as I think she noted in the thread.

In our final week? Well it was supa making one last chalais grab, bringing his total to four? Congratulations!! He Noelle Quinned his way not only to the week win, but also back into 5th place and the top of the chase group. However, he somehow remained a non member of this forum. The NCAA may declare him ineligible and all his points are awarded to me and I win the whole thing..muhahahahahah..eh...cough.. I mean, Congratulations again! Green jacket here to luv13 who Mabika’ed on the 17th hole for this score, to join all the proud winners of this honor.

Congratulations to Mamabristow for jumping into the top spot in week 14 and using a strong week 14 to hang on to it down the stretch for the overall league win. The 50 lb sterling silver trophy designed exclusively for our league by Tiffany’s is in the mail, be sure to keep an eye out for it. ;) As winner, you are obligated to buy both the champagne we’re gonna spray AND the good stuff we’re going to drink for the toast. That’s in the rules.

While we wait for the freaking playoffs to start with all this down time, we need to give props or razzes as the case may be ;) to the players we will remember the most from the 14 weeks of picking we all did.

Here are your categories again….
I sooooooooooo have a list of players including the allstar/Olympian I sadly had left in the holster (two if you count the one who retired a few weeks into the season, sigh). Come on folks, who made your list? Nominations early and often.

MBF's "Missed Them by THAAAAT Much Team"

I’ll start with my all “Gravy Train”

MVP of this team...I initially had Tamika Catchings slated to go week 15, I thought “self..BAD DECISION since you are sucking MAJOR wind now thanks to very forgettable back to back weeks, you need BIG points now!!”. So I moved Catch up a few weeks – which turned out to be week 34 of her sitting out with an injury (exaggeration included for dramatic effect).

Her former LadyVols teammate also makes this list, if I knew Mique would up and RETIRE a week into the season (again, with the dramatic effect) I would have taken her in the freaking preseason!

Marta Fernandez….for one bright shining half of a season, she was Lindsey Harding-sized crazy points (is that because most of the Sparks’ games against the Monarchs occurred in the first half, coincidence? I think not…;))

Honorable mention to EVERY other rookie in this league not named Lindsay Harding or Arminte Price, I managed to hit every single on of them including the three I played the final week on days they did preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetty much NOTHING, or not as much as they did for anybody else I was competing against…. :)
