To me, AEG's involvement in this Arena is as exciting as keeping the Kings seriously. They bring so much capital and credibility to this project. Here is the key line in the story:

He (Tim Leiweke, AEG CEO) said he met with the Maloof brothers earlier Tuesday and told them the Kings' performance will be vital to the arena's profitability. "We're betting on the three of you," he told them. "We need a good team."

WE NEED A GOOD TEAM!!! In other words if the product sucks, ticket sales suck, and the project is doomed to fail. The Maloofs must step up and put a winning product on the floor. AEG is gonna hold this family accountable or they will be out!!!!

They are betting big on Sacramento, too. :) Too bad the arena naysayers can't see Sacramento with the vision of KJ and AEG. (And some of us ;))

There was also the point made when asked if AEG trusted the Maloofs and the response was along the lines 'we trust Stern.' I took that to mean the Maloofs would not be allowed to "Sterling" Sacramento........... but I might be reading too much into it.

Reason for ALL this is because Sac is an amazing place to invest in.

All the whiners don't even get it.

We've got THE most powerful, successful arena/venue company plunking down nearly 60 MILLION in hard cash to get this thing done. Is there anybody out there with a shred of investment experience who cares to speak negatively of this deal? If you know anyone of such stature... please refer them to this site to post their doubts.

This is an insanely great opportunity, an AEG knows it. Their little "we're betting on you three" media release is simply a ploy to get the Maloofs to spend more on the Kings roster. These are not stupid people, stupid people.

AEG is putting money in at a low-buy-in opportunity. Having freakout people throw their arms up on certain sides of the deal is BOUND to happen... when you invest properly. In reality, it's a sign of success. As they say... money is made when you buy, not when you sell. AEG is BUYING. Hello... THE most successful venue company ON THE PLANET is BUYING on this deal. Think it's going to be successful? And no, they are not betting on "you three". They are betting on the overall economy, the geographical position of the arena, the geographical market opportunity (extREMELEY rare) and other overall factors (yes, to a limited degree, the Maloofs). That AEG says this, is simply trying to get the Maloofs to SPEND MONEY on an investment they've got some money on. But, even if the Maloofs only spend a normal amount, this thing is going to be successful for AEG. They're not that stupid to actually bet nearly 60 million dollars on Joe, Gavin, and George Maloof. Please.

If you can't see/understand what I'm talking about in my post, you really are better off, psychologically at least, investing in CD's. Ultimate security for ultimately no-vision persons.

I wonder if AEG has first dibs on naming rights. I know that the term sheet is written somewhere and the city winds up with excess profit but AEG is mostly going to profit off of the other events that come to the arena so the only reason I could see them hoping that the Kings get good is because big name corporations usually like putting their name on arena where the team has a good shot at the playoffs and will thus be seen on national tv a lot. That way, the corporation gets their name splashed on national tv and the investment becomes worthwhile. That's the only reason that I can see AEG hoping that the Kings get good.

They won't be the name. They get half the money from it.

with the team.

uh huh. ok wow. this is an INCREDIBLY sweet deal for the Maloofs. They will make their initial investment back within a few short years, with the naming revenue, and then with increased revenue from ticket prices/more luxury boxes... and I'm sure a bump in other sponsorship.

No wonder Gavin was crying tears of Joy! And who says these guys ain't good businessmen!!! :)

LOL. Yeah, I'm not ready to jump on that bandwagon. ;)

KD, people like you and I are the ones who built the friggin bandwagon... and Gavin's along for the ride!

But actually, at this point I'm pretty convinced that at least Gavin did NOT want to go to Anahiem, that that originated from George, and that Joe, due to his health, was kind of going along with George, but that since Gavin didn't have the full support of the family to stay... he had to kind of go along with it too. All of this, is why I'm guessing he really was choked up. Doubt their business skills, but I do think Gavin was being sincere in that moment. There are pretty reliable ways of reading body language, and he was displaying emotional honesty there, in my opinion. Much of Gavin's life is here in Sac. Having to move... (and then likely lose the franchise to Samueli... it would have pretty much taken everything away from him that he puts his energy into. Methinks behind closed doors this was getting pretty personal in the Maloof family.)

He seems to have taken on being the main Maloof face of the franchise moreso, now that they're staying. My guess is probably that the family said... "ok Gav, you love this thing more than any of us, we can't co-opt it down to Anaheim... so you just go ahead and run this thing." Gavin seems to be genuinely happier and more relaxed since the vote. He's been at nearly every single home game it seems.

I know they aren't putting their own name on the arena. I was just wondering what percentage of naming rights they get. If they are really getting 50% then that makes sense that they would want the Kings to do well. A good team will rake in more for naming rights.

I tend to see things pretty much the same way. Gavin Maloof is not deceptive. He wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to the Kings. I think of all the family, he's the one who truly loves the game of basketball and everything related to it. If he's going to be the Maloof face of the franchise, I'm all for it.

I totally agree Gavin is a true fan at heart. I do love that. Joe just looks not very healthy, sadly. I'm just still mad at George for being the main pusher for Anaheim.

Still, I'm not so sure about the Maloofs as businessmen. Whatever their Dad had, they don't really seem to have inherited it.
