Agent wants Evans to be traded

PHOENIX – The agent for Seattle SuperSonics forward Reggie Evans has asked general manager Rick Sund to trade his client.
Dan Fegan, at Sunday’s game against Phoenix at US Airways Arena, said that since new Sonics coach Bob Hill does not want to play Evans, he recently approached Sund and asked that his client be dealt to a team that could better use his services.

“Reggie wants to stay in Seattle, he likes Seattle,” Fegan said. “But clearly there is not a role for Reggie on this team. With that said, we would prefer the team trade him to a place that can better utilize his skills.”

Sund, on the trip with the team, confirmed that Fegan had made the request but declined to comment further.

Evans started the first 23 games of the season for Seattle, averaging 7.1 points and 7.6 rebounds in 21.7 minutes. He leads the league in rebounds per minute.
But when Bob Weiss was fired as coach and Hill took over, Hill told Evans the team needed to make a change at the position because it was not winning. Hill inserted Vladimir Radmanovic into the lineup.

Evans was a restricted free agent this past summer, signing a one-year tender offer for $1 million after turning down a two-year, $4 million offer.

He will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, meaning he can sign with any team.

--Hmmm.. been against it in the past but paired with Brad... I dunno... What do you guys think?

Rebounding would be better, defense would be even worse. If that's possible. Meanwhile, he's not bringing any offense.

I'm not much of an Evans fan. If he brought ANYTHING to the game other than rebounding then yes. But this team has too many holes to start filling them with savants.

Evans is a terrible defender, and he's undersized. He just rebounds.
Yeah, his career defensive numbers are really bad. I didn't realize he was so small, he just plays "big" against us... made him seem bigger :D .

Reggie gets $1,100,000 this season, so it is quite difficult we can get something valuable in return. Probably he'll be packaged with Potapenko ($3,000,000) or Fortson ($6,415,000). Both players have one more year on their contracts.

He doesn't make much does he? I wonder how much he is going to think he's worth this summer? That's probably why he is upset he can't increase his value as much behind Vlad.

He could help, and actually is perfect in that he does not NEED to shoot to help -- what this team needs more of is roleplayers. But it is hard to conceive of him getting any time with Rick as coach. Comparatively Skinner has a Nash-like skillset.

Sonics of course are idiots. They weren't winning any titles last year, but they had something that worked. EVERYONE was a specialist, and they kind of balanced each other out. The shooting weenies did all the scoring, the rebounding bash brothers did all the dirtywork, and they won 50. Now under a succession of soft coaches they have gone soft and forgotten how important those dirtywork scrappers were to their success.

That's, unfortunately, very true... Many fans like me believe that this falls on the management rather than coaches and players.

More importantly, Ray Allen was in a contract year.

If Petrie wanted Evans he could have signed him last summer. No way Petrie swings an actual deal for a guy who can't shoot pretty.

... sigh... this may be off topic, but I am SOOO tired of NBA players deciding the grass is greener somewhere else and demanding a trade! I just don't think it's right. I feel like they should honor the (multi million $$$) contract they signed and keep quiet. Players want long contracts so that they can secure future earnings. Granted, teams can trade players, but teams also run the risk of the players being injured, their talent waning, and still having to pay them. They should not have to deal with scrambling to put a deal together because some prima donna player has decided he wants a change of scenario!

... jumping off my soapbox now.... sorry, this is just a pet peeve of mine.

The guy is barely being used since Bob Hill has come in (the kids have taken over), so wants a better situation, to be contribute and be utilized, and also wants to keep himself out there for the summer, as he took a 1-year 1 mill. tender offer to become a unres. FA. Simple as that, and nothing wrong with it, IMO.

I agree for the most part. I think this extends to coaches, too. Everyone's always on the hot seat, so I think Adelman, for example, shouldn't feel "insulted" when a would-be "dream coach" like Jackson is approached, just as players can't be insulted for potential trades.

Anyway, if the Kings are going to get someone who looks good against the Kings, why not trade for Jerome James?

I was being sarcastic about James.

When I saw the name of this thread the first time, I thought it was about Maurice Evans. Maybe he was tired of being on the dominant team and misses the Kings.

Charlotte Observer - The Bobcats are interested in a trade that swaps a shooting guard for a big man. Coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff told the Observer on Sunday he's had contact with the SuperSonics about unhappy forward Reggie Evans, but for now that's not going anywhere.

"We've had some conversations with them," Bickerstaff said.
"Their demands are too high. Come (the Feb. 23 trade deadline), who knows?"

Evans has played in two of Seattle's past six games, and has reportedly asked for a trade. He signed a one-year tender offer (worth about $1 million), which allows him to veto any trade this season.

Evans reportedly turned down a two-year, $4 million offer from the Sonics, so he obviously expects to get paid this summer. Any team trading for him could easily lose him without compensation in a few months.

Reggie Evans > Jerome James by a lot. 4 playoff games were a fluke because of a messed up Kings team.
The truth is that we could really use a guy like Jerome James though. Paint filler/shotblocker. Contract sucks and so does his work ethic. He'd probably never get a second shot is Sac.

Sampson is just like Jerome James, at least the Jerome James we had. Y'know, the guy with all the nice suits?
