ESPN reporting Casspi to sign one-year deal (updated title)

The deadline had been Saturday and without the extension the Kings were considering declining the option. The agreement allows the Kings to explore ways to shed salary and still retain Acy, who would be due $915,243 next season. His salary would put the Kings about $2 million from the luxury-tax line of $76.829 million.

I guess Jason likes Hoopshype Salaries Which when you add 4,797,664 to hoopshype 70,208,441 you have 75,006,105 which is 13 players including Acy leaves 1,823,000 to the Limit

But ShamSports says it is 75,852,705 for 13 incl Acy Which leaves 976,300 to the limit

So if you add 1,063,000 for Omri , Shamsports shows you at 14 players you are $87,000 over the limit

4 players show different salaries (Hoopshpe first , Then shamsports):
Big Cuz 13,701,250 vs 14,746,000
Landry 6.750,000 vs 6,500,000
Dwill 6,679,866 vs 6,331,404
J Terry 5,450,000 vs 5,850,313

Total diff is 846,601

Anybody know which is right?

When in doubt, go with Sham.

edit: wrong thread.
My question is "If we claim Casspi off waivers" what Luxury limit space is then left

If Jason Jones says we have 2 mil under limit with Acy
Then I have no problem with Casspi as deep bench

If we don't have enough limit space to get Acy or Moreland without some other trade
Then I don't want Casspi's 1 mil salary

If the mods would like to move it to the Acy Extension thread that's ok with me

At the end of the day, the team does have the option to "stretch" Terry. That would give a little wiggle room.

After Terry's comments, I could easily see the team waiting till the last moment if they chose to go that route. No use in rewarding someone that is collecting a check from you that hasn't stepped foot on the court for you yet wants to spout off where he would rather be. Or could simply be being prudent.

Right now, including Acy, we are right about $1M under the tax line (numbers from Sham). So Casspi would put us right on the verge, and that's before Moreland, etc.

Obviously that is not the final word. The luxury tax is based on the salary at the end of the season, not the middle, so even if we exceed the tax we can make further moves to get back under. One possibility is a trade where we lose net salary. It's easy to imagine these scenarios, especially with expiring money in Outlaw and Terry. In the worst case scenario, we could wait until the deadline and trade Outlaw and cash to cover the remaining million or so of his salary to a team with cap space in exchange for a heavily protected second rounder. That would gain us $3M of space.

Another option is to waive Terry via the stretch provision. This gains is a bit more space (about 3.9M) but adds salary over the next two years. We also have to do that by the end of August. After that he can't be stretched. So obviously we'll know something about Terry's tradability by then.

Padrino's comment was referring to his own post. He initially made a comment that belonged in a different thread; he realized his error and edited it. Not sure why he didn't just delete it. :p

My apologies to Padrino

I did not realize that!

Anyway don't we find out by 2:00 pm whether Casspi has been claimed?

This way Casspi can sign deal that only counts for $915,243 on Kings' cap and allows SAC to keep Quincy Acy as opposed to waiving him first

So Casspi at $915,243 is so much better than Casspi for 1,063,000 contract amount if claimed

I feel so much better now .......... not

Why the urgency to stay under the cap? I thought our owner wasn't extremely strict about going passed the luxury tax threshold.

My guess is that there isn't a huge drive to stay under the cap.
I think the point isn't so much about staying under the cap in principle, but more about staying under the cap to acquire Casspi.

If the Kings had to go over the cap and get close to the apron in order to sign a bigger impact player, I'm sure that they would do it.

Also if you can save $150,000 dollars by just waiting a day then it doesn't hurt to do so.

Why would the Kings NOT take Acy and Moreland for those final spots? Those are 2 guys that bring skillsets we NEED on this team.

I guess I just don't understand the point in giving Casspi a roster spot. What is he going to bring to the Kings that we don't already have?

I would try to stay at the cap is I had a 30win team. No reason to go into the lux tax if we are only going to win 30 games.

I don't think they're looking for another 28 win season. I also don't think people should look on current acquisitions as final products. It's a long and arduous process to replace crap players with less crap players with mediocre players with almost adequate players with good players with true starters. Face it. Much of our roster still fits into the crap player category.,
