Actually, quakes like this tend to relieve the pressure on the fault involved. And aftershocks can continue for days or even weeks. How long have you lived in the Bay Area?

I've actually lived in the Bay Area all my life (22 years) and I remember the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989 and that quake was extremely violent and we all know how much damage that it caused. I've heard that pressure on the fault is relieved through quakes, I took a Geology course in college and we talked a lot about the faults that run through California and the amount of activity that occurs along the faults.
My housemate and I were sitting in front of the TV watching some hoops when the house started to shake. Nothing big, but it lasted longer than any I'd felt for a while. Glad to hear it wasn't anything too bad.
