I still think our team needs a shotblocker too take us too the next level and the playoffs. What about a possible trade scenario for one of these shotblocking bigs?

Milawaukee is loaded with frontcourt players Dally/Ilyasova/Larry Sanders/Udoh/Drew Gooden/Pryzbilla ... Im sure we could work something out for one of Udoh or Sanders.

Sanders I like especially, hes putting up monster shot blocking numbers whenever he gets the chance. Udoh is a great shotblocker aswell.

Then we have Biyombo is Charlotte, whom is still very raw. But he is also a monster shotblocker, averaged 1.8 per in 22 minutes last year with the bobcats.

He is currently hardley getting any burn at all in charolette with the emergence of Byron Mullens, and with Brendan Haywood and Tyrus Thomas taking the rest of the minutes..

These are just some reasonable players I truly think the Kings organization could aquire without completely depleted our roster.

Whats you thoughts on it Kingsfans? Yay? Nay?

None of those players is a significant improvement over who we have now. Thus far, JJ has been as advertised on defense and Cuz has shown some improvement. Combine that with Hayes returning to his man-on-man enforcer role of a few years ago and I don't see us going for a "shotblocker" unless Serge Ibaka suddenly expresses a burning desire to play with Demarcus Cousins in Sacramento.

I think youre onto something with Biyombo. I actually think he could be an awesome fit in the starting lineup. As much as i like certain players on the current kings team, the defensive potential of a Kings team that starts Thomas/Evans/Johnson/Biyombo/Cousins is enormous. A front court rotation of Cousins/Biyombo/Hayes is just mean.

i get what your saying don't get me wrong here. BUT the Kings are 9th in the league in blocked shots. and 6th in steals

Pretty sure the only good thing Biyombo does is block shots. And notice I did not say he was good on defense. He is a bad defender. An extra blocked shot or two won't do us any good if the player isn't a good defender and does not have an understanding of the game.

Hear hear. Biyombo is as raw as they come. He might develop into a Dalembert in five years or so, but that's a big assumption at this point.

Couple that with the Kings apparent inability to develop young players, and I'm happy leaving "potential" elsewhere.

Why I agree with the premise, as I've mentioend in the past having a shotblocker sitting on the bench doesn't actually help the team. He needs to be on the court, playing, significant minutes in order for it to be of any value. So if we get one, he would either have to be significantly better than JT/Hayes/TRob, or he would have to be traded for one of them

I think we're seeing with this team that shot blocking isn't close to being a #1 priority. We need some guys that can play defense AND shoot the outside shot. That opens the floor for Cousins. So we need one or two more two-way players, not one-dimensional one-way shot blockers.

I'll take a flyer on a 5th big to dump one of Salmons/Outlaw, but the value doesn't match up. Those guys are all 3rd/4th big caliber, and this team's SF's are all negative in value.
So it would essentially take trading an asset in order to take playing time from our #5 pick, or one of two veterans on long term deals. If the #5 pick was not a PF maybe, unfortunately he is.

Although I think finding a shotblocker is a big need for the team. It is not the most important one right now. We desperately need a defensive minded SF who is a very good 3pt shooter. The spacing is poor, and on top of that, we don't have many good shooters to help spread the floor for Evans and Cousins. If we replace Johnson in the starting lineup with a Granger or a Batum, I think it will make a dramatic impact.

With that being said, it is difficult to draw shotblockers away from a team. I think our best bet at getting one will be in next years draft. There are many athletic, defensive, shotblocking bigs in the next draft class. McAdoo, Noel, Mitchell, Adams, Len, Christmas, and Austin to name a few. I think we have a good shot at landing one of them.

Of the three you mentioned, Udoh, Sanders, and Biyombo, Udoh probably has the best chance of being the best all around player. He wouldn't be a liability on offense. Biyombo is probably has the best chance at being the best post defender, both physically, and shotblocking wise. Sanders is like a pogo stick when it comes to shotblocking, but he's still extremely weak in post defense because of his lack of muscle and weight. Although Biyombo isn't getting many minutes right now, I think he'd come with a high price. They see him as their PF of the future. Not so with either Udoh or Sanders. I think either could be had at a reasonable price. Problem is, I doubt either could beat out JT for the starting job, and the Kings seem inclined to give as many minutes as possible to T. Robb. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have either on the bench as insurance though.

I can't help but point out that we drafted Biyombo and traded him (or passed on drafting him, depending on how you look at it). In fact, we've had a shot at drafting some very good defensive players in each of the past 5 or so drafts and passed on all of them which tells me, if Geoff wanted a shotblocker or an elite perimeter defender he would have found one by now. It doesn't seem to be very high on his priority list. When we have made big trades it's been for offensive oriented players like Carl Landry and Marcus Thornton. By all means speculate, but unless you're talking about a defender with a money jumpshot you're wasting your time I'd say.

We need to improve from within right now. I'm holding on to hope that this squad will find it's rythem and learn how to play both sides of the ball because there are noticable improvements on D.
