Dusty Baker out as Cubs manager

I think Girardi would be a good fit. He's done more with less. The Cubbies also need to invest in some pitchers that could actually last the entire season. Build around Zambrano, instead of the oft-injured Prior/Wood.
Offensively, they have some good players. To say they've underachieved would be an understatement. Yes, they've had some injuries, but they're a much better team than their record shows, which is why Baker was let go.

When they can't fire the whole team, they fire the manager. Hence Felipe Alou's ouster in SF today, too.

Alou's case is more "when they can't fire the GM...they fire the manager" Sabean finally realized that the geriatric veteran route wasn't the way to go, but when their minor league system is still rather anemic they may not have had much choice.

Sorry to see Dusty out in Chicago. He was a Steve Bartman (;)) away from delivering a chance at the ultimate prize in Chicago and that would have set him up for immortality in that city. But if the rumors hold up, he may be back on the West coast.

I'm glad Dusty is gone. He is a good/great manager, but he just simply lost interest this past year and made some really stupid decisions.

Arguably he is responsible for alot of pitching injuries. I'm glad he didn't manage to ruin Zambrano. When I see him pitching 120+ pitches in a meaningless game I want to go and kick Dusty out of Wrigley myself.

Also, claiming that OBP is not that important got alot of Cubs fans agravated.

Now if they can get rid of Jim Hendry and rebuild this pathetic team around Lee, Barret, Murton, Zambrano and few others that showed some interest and effort.
