Duchovny in "new" series

They just showed a promo for "Night Stalker" on News 10. It's going to star David Duchovny as Carl Kolchak. The original series starred Darren McGavin as the down-on-his-luck reporter Kolchak who was reduced to reporting the night beat for an Enquirer-type rag. He was always running into vampire, werewolves, mysterious other creatures, etc.

The show is being produced by Frank Spotnitz, who was one of the producers of The X-Files.

I saw something about that a month or two ago, and simply could not believe that they were going to remake one of the most laughable series of the 70's (unintentional humor of course). I could see how with a little tweaking and modern production values it could work as reporter-does-X-files, but I just have no idea why you'd even want to raise the spectre of a series that lasted less than one season 30 years ago unless it be to avoid some sort of bogus copyright claim.

As an aside, Duchovny has really gone a long way with his career -- right bakc to where he started.

You are kidding, right?

;)

Night-Stalker has assumed a very strong cult-like following. I know college students who can quote virtually every line from every episode (not too tough, since it only lasted one year). I think they're going to make the most of that in this latest incarnation, and I think Duchovny is doing it for that reason. I suspect it will be a very big hit with the college group...or fall on its face so horribly it's pulled after two or three episodes.

<----- Admitted Night Stalker junkie. McGavin was great and I could not immagine a new Kolshack..... untill they announced Dchovny... looks like more tongue in cheek fun!

When I think "able to act serious when facing aliens from outer space OR perhaps werewolves," I think David Duchovny.

;)

That's very interesting.

If there's been a cast change it happened since I saw the promo. Sorry.
