DOUG CHRISTIE ANNOUNCES HE IS READY TO RETURN TO PLAY IN THE NBA

Christie, in better shape than ever, eager to return to play

After months of speculation and rumors of retirement, Doug Christie has officially announced his intentions of returning to play in the NBA.

Spending months undergoing intense rehabilitation and conditioning has put Christie in fantastic shape and made him eager to join an NBA team at their 2006 training camp. During a recent interview, Christie commented that, “I am blessed to now have gained endurance, agility and quickness at a level that I had not previously experienced.”

Christie, a first Team and a two time All Defensive Second Team member who has over 1,500 career steals, 3,000 assists and 2,500 defensive rebounds, is a defensive force, which has sports gurus around the league agreeing that his presence on the court has been sorely missed and that whichever team is successful in signing him will benefit greatly from his veteran leadership and versatility.

Drafted by the Seattle Supersonics in the first round of the 1992 NBA Draft, Christie has played in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Dallas and Sacramento where he enjoyed much success.

Great news. Thanks for the info, DC13for3.

(In case anyone is wondering, DC actually does PR for Doug Christie, so there isn't a link to the site of origin. This is an actual press release.)

Nice. Go GP!! A faster and better Doug could be the answer to our hopes and dreams. Wait, noone to trade with. That would put us over. That sux! I still look forward to seeing him play again.

I wouldn't mind us bringing him back to the team. Just his presence and help with the development of Kevin and Francisco would be great. And just to throw out a Doug/Ron wing combo would be sick!

Best of luck getting on a team Doug!

Once we get settled with what player(s) we'll add out of training camp... I definitely wouldn't mind at all if he was a third swingman for us, and of course wouldn't take significant time away from any of the younger players.

He can still bring some stuff to any team.

When Christie started a couple of games for Dallas, he didn't seem to do much at all--probably a product of his slowing down and all the wear and tear that comes with guarding opposing shooting guards. That really led me to believe that he was really done--in the league. His stats were down across the board, his shooting became rather inconsistent, and he simply became less effective.

However...

If Christie actually made those comments, "I am blessed to have gained endurance and agility at a level I had not previously experienced" that's quite amazing. Of course I could that comment many different ways, but I'm assuming that he thinks he can become better than what he was...in his prime? Has Christie regained the agility and athleticism to do reverse dunks again? I don't know if I'm taking this out of context or if Christie actually believes this, but if so, that's rather amazing. Again, I believe he should be a backup or a third-string player, or perhaps a mentor as many members here have stated, but if he has regained that agility...;)

Every player says "I'm rejuvinated, I can run jump and shoot better" etc... Because they haven't played an 82 game season and have had so much rest. But it really leaves alot of questions because it's very easy for a player to say that until it actually comes time to play after 10 games...

While that's true, I strongly suspect Doug wouldn't be trying to come back unless he really felt up to being productive on whatever team he ends up with.

Doug will never be a King again because some of us like him too much. That is one of the criteria for trading players. I am afraid to like anybody these days. It's like the unofficial "kiss of death".

In that case, qd, could you start really really liking Kenny Thomas? :p Hart would be okay too.

Well I don't think we need him. We're a good defensive team from the perimeter but we suck defensively in the interior.

DC has great experience to pass on to younger palyers but the Kings have experienced fossiles on the bench already, it's a rebounding big man they need desperatley and Wright is NOT the anser (unless the question is "who is available cheap to ride pine and act as a third string back up?")

You mean Woods. I don't think anyone views Woods as an answer, but a possibility to help the interior defense. Also don't think he'll be a third center.

DC would be had for the mininum. There aren't any bigs out there that can be had for the mininum. Signing DC wouldn't be relevant to getting a big man. If were going to get another big man, it's going to come through trade and training camp.

Who even knows if DC will be signed by us.

I would love to have Christie back.

Because Im so incredibally not sold on Salmons that I want an insurance plan in place once he maybe flops.

Not only that, but Christie is so damn versitile he could help at PG, SG, SF.

Imagine the versatility...Which Petire loves nowadays.

*Douby can play the 1 and 2.
*Christie can play the 1/2/3.
*Salmons can play the 2 and 3, and apparently handle down the court.

Then throw in Cisco who can play the 1/2/3.

We can have people shifting all over the place...Which makes for a better team!

apparently.

Anyways, long ramble short...I want him back.

My mistake I did mean Woods and I fear you are right and pray you are wrong. He is NOT the kind of guy a serious team has taking many min. On the other hand this IS a good lottery year.

He's not going to get serious minutes, and isn't on a serious deal. So, I don't see the need to be seriously agonizing over him (for anyone). ;)

I'm personally tired of NBA players retiring and coming back just to make a fool of themselfs and yes this includes our beloved Christie. a ego can get infront of a players decision and make them think they are healthy and ready to be in there old self when the reality is there wrong.

Christie never retired.

If he didn't he should've. coming back right now for him does not make sense he needs to realize that hes done sometimes players just don't want to admit it so they turn into the Hero-mode and come back.

Liked Christie a lot from the great teams we loved.

Loved Christie for whacking Fox.

Don't think Christie could or should play ahead of Martin, Garcia or Salmons recovered or not. IMO he could be of help to someone but we already have better players.
