Donte Greens first Bighorns game

If anyone is curious how Greene did tonight he had 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks.

I'm glad to see that he should be able to showcase himself down at that level. Where did most of his scoring come from? Did he seem under control most of the time?

He had 26pts 5rebs 4blks (9-16fg, 2-6 3pt, 6-8ft%)

Not bad without knowing the system.

patrick ewing jr had 20pts 13rebs

Big Horns are now 5-12

It's certainly an impressive statline. Same goes for Ewing Jr.

Hopefully he keeps up this kind of play, it will help him long-term.

To me this shows that the Franchise is willing to put stock in Greene. If they weren't they would just let him rot behind the depth at the wing positiln until his contract comes to an end. Maybe if this had been done to Gerald Wallace his first 2 seasons then he would still be a king. I don't mind it.

so wait he's in the D-league, right? But no other team can snatch him up, right?

He is still under contract to the Kings. Many others in the D-league are not under an NBA contract and can be pursued by any team.

Caught part of the game online, and he is definitely showing that he can shoot the ball.

Another thing I like about him is that he looks to be a good teammate. He's very energetic, and outspoken. Very straight shooter. This kind of person is the type that makes good leaders. Of course he's a bit young but I cannot wait to see him in 3-4 years once he has gained a bit of NBA maturity.

Another player that has this quality who I wouldn't mind getting is Noah. If there was a way to get him for Brad Miller I would jump at the trade in a heartbeat.

it's joke that our coaching staff can't get him playing time on a 8-29 team.

he's playing right now if anyone wants to watch.. go to the D-league site on nba.com and go to the Reno homepage, and watch the game.

No, it's a joke that people keep wanting to force the situation with a player who is clearly VERY raw. Putting him into the d-league could easily be the best thing to happen to him since he signed with the NBA. Let him get back to playing regularly, hone his stills again and then bring him back up to work with the Kings.

He was wasting away on the bench so this at least gets him back into competitive situations.

I think it's a bit ironic that just about the biggest impression Donte Greene made as in Sacramento was his videos and all the various rookie pranks. Now that he's playing in the D-league he can be duly harassed to pay for some of the BigHorns meals and popcorn seeing that his salary is over 10 times what any of them make. Maybe Coach T in Reno can get him to buy a pizza one in awhile since he complained about not getting one for free when working on air at KHTK. Donte seems like a good kid but he has a LOT of work to do if he's going to make it at the NBA level - and stick.

Coach T runs that team? lol I did not know that.

Well this is probably good for Donte, getting regular PT against borderline NA competition.

And for the record, Cleaves is not a joke in the D-league... over 8 assists per game.

In case anybody's interested, here's the boxscore for Donté's first game with the Bighorns:

http://www.nba.com/dleague/games/boxscore.jsp?gameId=2020800123

Greene led the team in points and blocks, shooting just over 50%. Old friend PEJr had 20 points and 13 boards. Jespher has just updated us on how old friend Mateen Cleaves did (for the opponent).

Only 5 boards in the D league? Pick it up, Greene, or Ewing might take your place!;) I'd like to see Ewing guard Greene in practice. That would be interesting.

Sac bee had an article on this today... It basically said he's not use to the elevation and was sucking for wind hard in his 2nd game and even threw up... Mostly due to elevation and playing back to back 30+ min games which he hasn't done with the kings this year... Give him a few more games to get acclimated sounds like he's on the right track up there

The Kings media people need to do a story or two on Greene in the D league after two or three weeks. I think Greene is going to have lots of great stories to tell when he finally gets back to his buds in Sacto.

How do they travel in the D league? Do they still do it in buses?

Really, really needs to work on his ballhandling and moving w/o the ball to make any kind of impact beyond his jumpshot, which is streaky at best.

Once he gets some D-League seasoning, he'll really benefit from Coach Carril's training.

There is no excuse for Donte not to get playing time on this team.

The Kings are 9-29. There's no reason why he can't get on the court. He shouldn't be in the d league.

He's not putting out terrible #'s, but I'll actually judge him harsher once he's more acclimated to the elevation (which takes a few weeks sometimes to be quite honest if you've never done anything physical that high before). His TO's are troubling though

The Bighorns were in town here tonight, so I went to watch Donte play.

Not one of his better nights. 16 points on 4-14 shooting (and one of those was this horrible-looking bank shot that you knew he wasn't calling glass on). Had one nice block and was posterized on the other end a couple times. He looked flat-out awful in the first half and got into early foul trouble. Came out in the second half and was gasping for air during breaks almost immediately (we're not as high as Reno, but at 2700' we're not Key West either). But he caught a second wind and seemed OK for the rest of the game. Too many catch-and-shoots and 1-on-1 and not enough shots within the flow of the offense. There was just no rhythm to his game tonight.

He's clearly the most vocal player on the team, both on and off the court. There were some really egregious turnovers from other teammates, and sometimes it was hard for him to hide his displeasure. And he was doing his Mateen impression on occasion when the other guys on the bench just sat there. He was also the only player continually calling for the ball. Unfortunately when he got it he just jacked it up most of the time.
