Domas - Week 12 Western Conference Player of the Week

Wait, wasn't it not that long ago that we were being told that Domas was a liability and needed to be upgraded? Yes, I'm certain that I read that somewhere once.

I tried to tell any non-KINGS fan that didn't see most of their games that Domas was playing through numerous nagging injuries, then a chest stomp, late in the 22-23 season and postseason. That is the only reason a scrub like Kevon Looney seemingly got the better of him. We've seen how that match up has played out since. But, still, it didn't stop a good many over-hyping Looney and underrating Domas.

I'll submit that a large faction of players wouldn't have even tried playing through the injuries Domas had at that time. While Domas wasn't himself, 50% of Domas is still better than what the KINGS would have had to field w/o him. But it not only limited his ability to rebound and defend, it killed his ability to shoot outside the paint.

The past two seasons the naysayers have seen what the dude is capable of doing. Almost 30 triple doubles and led the league in double-doubles last season. This season he's on his way to smashing his own 3 pt record (52 makes). He's already at 40 makes this season, less than half way through the season. And what's mind-boggling is he's converting his threes at 46%!

Take that for data, Kevon Looney and his fanboys!

Absolutely blows my mind that our of the blue he decided to make himself one of the best big man three point shooters in the league.

Thing is, it's not really out of the blue.

While he's never shot it at 46% before, he came into the league and hoisted 159 threes back in 2016/17 when it wasn't as common for bigs as it is now, and he shot a respectable 32% (for a big back then). He pretty much matched those numbers again in 2020/21 and 2021/22 with the Pacers before being traded to the KINGS.

He's always had the ability to shoot the ball, it's just been underutilized.

Yeah, both the Thunder and Pacers both tried to make Sabonis shoot more threes because both organizations wanted him to be more of a PF.
