[Rumor] Domas trade watch 2026

Yeah I'd rather sit DDR/Lavine and play Domas with the young players because he would actually help develop them.

This is the way. If we're lucky enough to get a Peterson, AJ or Flemmings, I could think of few other guys around the league that would help those guys on the floor more. Through the secondary playmaking, screens to create space, etc, just having a 20 PPG scorer on the floor. Caleb Wilson is a glove fit defensively with Domas. Possibly the only "sketchy" fit is Booz in that top 5, but both guys are so intelligent I think they'd have 0 issues working it out. Not that we should be considering fit at all, but I think it's an added benefit that Domas can really help whatever 2026 draft pick along in their development

I personally would offer to buy Demar out asap. If we can't trade Demar now, we won't be able to trade him in the summer. Can I convince him to take his full salary this year and give up 5 million from next years 10 million?
This summer we can trade him for $25 million incoming salary to a team that cuts him and only incurs $10, basically giving them an extra MLE contract. With money as tight as it is now that could be huge for a team that can do it and give us a pick.

Are we sure he won't have value over the summer?

I do agree if he'll take a buyout for the 2026-27 salary but I'd put that at 2-3 million tops given the above?

I don't think that's how it works.
If he gets traded for 25 million incoming, then his entire contract becomes guaranteed. I believe this loop hole was closed the last CBA. might be another spot where cpt can fact check me.

oh yeah ok that would be bad if true.

Are there signs Domas wants out?

Regardless, good on Scott. The Sacramento media contingent is gonna complain, but you just dont deal all nba talent for nothing.
I’m pretty sure Scott can handle our local yokels. After all, he had the NYC media to contend with back with the Knicks and they’re a whole different animal.

Vivek will shortcut the rebuild at the first opportunity. Guaranteed.

It's already happening and Perry looks to be just fine doing it. Now the Kings do have some cap issues moving on into next season. NOT where a team wants to be in a "rebuild". Hunter should end up being a win but that deal has Perry walking backwards on a rebuild in the short term.

People wanting the Kings to get rid of Domas just for the sake of getting rid of Domas while promoting tanking and wanting the flexibility of having future assets with which to work throughout a potential rebuild is wild stuff, especially considering the fact that Domas is probably the one guy (or is probably one of the guys) on the roster who might be able to yield a solid long-term "rebuilding package" in return.

It’s possible Domas doesn’t really have a market that some thinks he’s worth. I know some here swear he is a top 10-20 player and I agree he’s a good player BUT unless Perry can pull something off, we might not be able to move that contract unless it’s for a reasonable cost to what teams value him at. Off-season may be best to move.

LaVine I get. Maybe you can trade his massive expiring next deadline. But I wouldn't be mad if he was bought out.
Even if we buy him out I believe it would still count against our cap

I think if he agrees to give up 5 million next year (to go where he wants now) only 5 mil would count towards next year not the full 10.

Also, it opens space for us to play nique/carter more. and development possessions where they aren't standing around while iso demar goes crazy.

You are correct, the CBA closed this loophole, so once the deadline passes, DeRozan's outgoing salary for trade purposes is going to be $10M, but it appears his salary would be $25M for the team trading for him. That does put a damper on offseason trades. However, it should be possible for us to fully guarantee the contract early, which would result in his outgoing salary for trade purposes to match the contract value (but of course, then there's no non-quaranteed money on that deal).

So basically we've gotta trade him now if we're going to let another team take advantage of cutting him next year.

What about a trade on draft day (which technically is in 25-26, right?)

Nope, same thing. Once the deadline passes this year, his value for next year is $10M until he has either earned more than that, or the contract is guaranteed by either the contract being updated or passing the full guarantee date (early January sometime).
