Divac likely bought out

G-League
According to Real GM, The lakers are planning on buying him out. We all know he can barely walk, but how great would it be to have him back for one more season?

I'd love to see Vlade be a part of the Kings again, but not in a uniform. I have high hopes that they could bring him back in some sort of coaching role, but we'll have to see.

It would not be great to have him back for one more season IMHO.

It was tough enough saying goodbye to him when he was still at least able to be somewhat active, although we all remember how very much he had slowed down the last season with us.

To see him come back, not even a shadow of his former self, would break my heart. The ship has sailed. We cannot relive those days, and I don't think we want to. I wish Vlade every success and happiness in whatever he chooses to do, but I really do NOT want that to be in the uniform of the Sacramento Kings. As a coach, perhaps...

I think this is a moot point anyway, since Vlade said if his contract was bought out, he would most likely retire and spend more time with his family - taking a year off completely before deciding what role (if any) he wanted to have in basketball after that point.

nooooo way....i would not want him back @ ALL...maybe so he can retire a king ? sign a 10 day contract ? but not to play for us

just for the hell of it.... sure.... but if its between divac and barnes, i'd choose barnes...

who?
matt barnes
who?
matt barnes....

I wouldn't mind him being a coach. He would do very well, but I do believe he is done as a player. Lets not forget that Peja would all of a sudden be the happiest player on the Kings again.

cuz we all know thats the most important thing this season. forget how many wins the kings get...as long as peja's happy, everybody's happy.

I only said that because he would probably convert to that MVP form he was in when Vlade was here.

eh....i assure you, in a contract year, peja's gonna play his *** off no matter what. he doesnt need to be coddled anymore, and he wont (at least i hope he wont). he's gonna have to earn the big contract he's sure to get from the kings.

That's a very good point. I like the fact that we have two players playing for money next year. Him and Bonzi both having stellar years would mean great things for us.

Yeah, it appears that Divac is going to finish his career either as a player or a licensed player who wont play (but will most likely mentor some of the young promising centers) in Partizan, the club where he started.
Finally, one Serbian star keeps his promise about coming back for one final year in his home club!

Divac would not be a great or reliable player anymore, but he would be a locker room presence, and the kings need that. Think avery johnson for dallas and golden state 2 years ago...

Yep, which is why I think that he would be a great coach / assistant coach somewhere.

I like how Vlade is winding down his career.

He went back to the NBA team that got him started here in the first place and now he's returning home...

I wish more players would bow out gracefully the way Vlade has.

Sorry, but I still think you're wrong. Having Vlade back in the locker room would mean very little to this new crew of Kings. Most of them have never stepped on the court with him as Kings.

The Kings are moving forward. You have to accept that and just let them do it. Vlade today is not Vlade of two years ago; the Kings of today are not the Kings of two (or more) years ago. Let him go with fond memories and gratitude for what he did for us, the fans, the Kings and the NBA in general.

Some day his number will hang in the rafters of Arco, and that will be a good thing.

That doesn't really matter that much (even though he played with the main guys on the team) - Vlade had added his spirit as a factor to every team that he played for.
With that said, the chances of Divac coming back to Sacramento = 0.

I have a lot of respect and admiration for Vlade.

Having said that, I do not think his presence would mean the same as it would have before. The team is moving in a different, hungrier direction. Vlade isn't the right presence for the locker room at this point in time, IMHO. Bringing him back now would simply be the wrong move. It's too soon... If the Maloofs and Petrie are going to make the new dynamic work, they have to keep moving forward.

And quite frankly, I think bringing Vlade back would be the absolute worst thing for Peja. He has to stand up by himself on his hind legs some time, and if not now, it probably won't ever happen.

We do agree on one thing. Regardless of why, I fully agree with you that it won't happen.

I have to add that I saw Vlade play a few games last season after he came back, and before he got suspended for hammering Shawn Bradley's face with an elbow (what a way to end a career, especially a guy like Vlade), and I must say he looked like he could go for 10-15 minutes a night.

Re

If I remember correctly, Vlade was on the Grant and Mike show and mentioned that he was going to move back to Europe for a year or 2 and then come back to work for the Lakers or Kings orginization. He never specified a position but just the thought of him as a coach makes me look forward to the day he come back.

If you could take Vlade's skill set as a player:

-Playing with his back to the basket
-Passing
-is baby hook, and other inside shots
-leadership

And put it in a strong and athletic body and be able to

-finish strong at the rim
-back people down better
-not have to flop

That would be one of the most dominant centers in the league

If Vlade can teach someone his skills, bring him back as some sort of coach. Just as long as it's not the Strength and Condition coach lol.

Yah I agree with that. Maybe in a cuple years bring Vlade in to help coach our team, but we have to keep moving forward, and not look back.

Well..you did an admirable job of describing Shaq, one of the most dominant centers in the league..

;)

Vlade was a better passer. Shaq has always had his strength and athleticism for a man his size.

It is true and it has been reported by several reputable sources, including Partizan.

That's the thing with Vlade, he should have really retired after his last season with Kings, but he has so many stops to make on his retirement tour that he will probably have to suit up once more. And that's a good thing. I really hope he will enjoy it, have fun and once he really retires, it would be cool if he got a job with Kings. But even if he doesn't, it still remains a simple fact that his best basketball years were with Kings and we will always have that.

I wouldn't mind seeing Vlade back in limited minutes, he would be great mentoring the young ones, providing great chemistry for the team and controlling the offense on occassion. I would get him just to give Shaq fits. And know I'm not holding on to the past, he would be a great addition imo, if his back permits it.

I liked having vlade as a king for the several years he was here, but there is no possible way that I think his number should be retired.
