Did Jason Thompson sprain his ankle on the last play?

I watched the game and on that last play it appeared he sprained his ankle and he started walking as if it were sprained. I didn't listed to KHTK after the game to see if they talked about it at all, didn't anyone else notice that?

He sure had a great game and I don't understand why Theus took him out for so long then put him in at the very end when it was to late. We needed his rebounding and shooting confidence. That is the first time I was critical of Theus as a coach but it was almost like he just forgot to put him back in the game?

We've heard nothing so far as I know. With gametime only 8 hours away, I'm sure the pregame show would mention it.

I thought that was Donte Greeene--at least recognizing the way he opened mouth as he screamed in pain. Seemed like Ariza landed on him or something

No it was for sure Jason. I live in Livermore so I had to watch it via my NBA league pass through Comcast so it was being shown from the LA station and they showed the very end when the players were shaking hands and such. On the play when Jason went flying down the court and got a little out of control and he threw it up at the last second and Spencer dunked it. It was that play that when Jason came back up the court you can tell he hurt his ankle and as soon as the clock expired and the game was over he reached down and undid his shoe laces on the hurt foot. He was walking trying not to put pressure on it and you can tell when he was shaking hands with some Lakers players when it was over that he trying not to put pressure on his foot and he had a concerned look on his face.

Never take off the shoe when you sprain an ankle! That is a terrible thing to do as the swelling usually explodes.

Jason Thompson didn't even step on the court in the 4th quarter, so I don't know what you're looking at. I have the game on my DVR and just rewatched the entire last 12 minutes to make sure... Jason was up and part of the team huddles and he didn't look to be in any kind of pain. And in a couple of closeups of the Lakers with the Kings bench behind them when they shot free throws, Jason's foot/feet look fine.

If he had injured his ankle earlier in the game, they would have had him in the locker room putting ice on it. He would NOT have been sitting on the bench for the remainder of the game.

I do remember mentioning in the PBP that I wished Jason had played in the fourth quarter, so there could be something wrong, I suppose, but I certainly didn't see either last night or just now watching the replay anything to confirm it.

Donte Greene, on the other hand, did limp at the end of the game, after a play with about 1:26 left in the fourth quarter when he bobbled a pass, it was knocked away from him and he ended up diving to the floor to try and get the ball away from Trevor Ariza. Jerry and Grant mentioned they thought at first it was his elbow but then said it was, in fact, his leg as he was limping.

So, no - I don't think it was Jason Thompson. Jason is #34; Donte Greene is #20.

My bad then, I could have sworn it was JT. Well thank goodness it wasn't. I like Donte but JT is much more ready to help now and we need his rebounding abilty. Hopefully Donte didn't have a major sprain like Martin and Donte is back in the line up soon. Thanks for the details.

After watching it twice, I think if anything it was just a bit of a body tweak because of how he hit the court. Grant and Jerry, as I said, at first thought it was his elbow and then said it was his leg. He landed with one elbow on the court, his hip and leg also hit pretty hard.

I think he'll be fine.

:)

I remember the play the OP is talking about, and I'm pretty sure it was the last Kings score of the game. Thompson came down with a long rebound and broke down court with Spencer, made a very awkward looking pass (at first it looked like a shot attempt) and Spencer dunked it. Then the Lakers ran the clock out.

The boxscore on Fox Sports (http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/playbyplay?gameId=2008112313&refreshRate=60) indicates that Thompson subbed in at the 1:34 mark of the fourth, logged a rebound at 0:29, and Hawes a FG at 0:24, which seems to confirm my recollection.

I didn't notice Thompson hurt, though.

Okay, I watched it again to see where Jason Thompson was. He was, in fact, on the court in place of Miller. It was, however, Donte Greene who fell on the court.

The play you guys are talking about, where Thompson missed the lay-up and tripped out of bounds, was indeed the last score by the Kings when Hawes dunked the putback. I watched Jason Thompson in slow motion and it didn't look like he was hurt as much as disgusted with himself for that last mistake...

Sorry for the confusion.

:o
