Details on the guy beating on Fred Jones

G-League
" (Intriguing note on Wallace: One of his posse members was the huge guy who attacked Fred Jones from behind. During the initial altercation, you can see the guy lurking behind Artest as Artest lies on the scorer's table, almost like he's ready to jump him. You can also see him consoling Wallace's kids after the fact.) "

Wow, that's a nice little twist.

The whole Simmons article is about the brawl, BTW, decent read.

Also, to the "Artest shouldn't have fouled him" crowd:

--------------

" With 6:43 remaining, Rip Hamilton threw a cheapshot elbow into Jamaal Tinsley's back after a defensive rebound (they called a foul as the Pacers bench erupted). That could have been a flagrant since it looked like Hamilton went out of his way to belt him. And with 1:25 remaining, down by 11 points, Wallace knocked Artest into the basket support while blocking his layup -- from the camera angle, you can't tell if it's a foul or not. So if you're playing the "Why was Artest fouling Wallace with such a big lead?" card, the play wasn't much different than Wallace's block. He just got more of a piece of him."

From what I read, that big guy isn't just in Ben's "posse" he's in his family, one of his brothers.

It's very interesting to me that it seems like everyone forgot the context of the events. It's like Stern became one of the casual fans who are so appalled and think this happens on a monthly basis.

As a request, can you please stop referring to him as "the big black guy". It's not like if you said "the guy beating up on Fred Jones", we wouldn't know who you were talking about.

I'm sure you mean nothing by it, but there's no reason to bring race into the discussion.

The man was definitely big, but I would have to say dark brown in color. Nobody is really black anyway. I suppose there are a few truly white people, but most of them are dead albinos. There definitely are not any red or yellow people, and little gray men are simply impossible.

So "Milwaukee" is Algonquin for "the good life". That's pretty interesting. I still can't figure out how the Algonquins and Iroquois survived the winters up there. Why did they stay? Must have been the food.

Factoids.

I don't agree with one thing Simmons said --- the first guy that got punched by Stephen Jackson had just tossed a beer into the face of Ron Artest, who was being restrained at the time by three or four people. No reason for him to do so, not that he deserved to get wailed on by SJackson, but he's not completely innocent.

What would you do if your friend got attacked by a big, mean basketball player. You would try to help him anyway you could. Stephen Jackson is punk *** biatch and was completely out of control. If it was not for his stupidity Artest would probably have not seen anything over a 10-15 game suspension since he did not throw any punches until Stephen Jackass escualted the entire thing by challenging every Piston and Piston fan to a fight.

No. I fail to see why anyone would find that offensive.

Maybe you should send a letter to Dave Chapelle, whose made millions of dollars by making fun of people based on racial stereotypes... But of course nobody minds. I'd like to see Jerry Seinfeld try the same thing. Now THAT is racist.

And Stojakovic isn't a troll.
I think "big black guy" is just a natural way of identifying him... it could have been "the little Asian guy" or "the fat Indian guy" or "the crazy blonde lady."

Although if the race indication was left out, I'd still know who we were referring to.

And Seinfeld was all about ethnic jokes... remember the dentist who converted to Judaism for the jokes? Not that I'm anti-Dentite. ;)

Your proof is inthe threads look at how folks are describing the various fans involved. Then think aobut those descriptions forabout 10 min before saying anything else on the subject.

I loved that Seinfeld episode where the dentist converted to Judaism for the jokes. I thought about moving to Brooklyn for the accent.

Mmm... people are being too sensitive about racial comments, but no one's being too sensitive about someone confrontin another who threw stuff at them?

Makes me wish the foxhole was still around...

I don't see anything wrong with describing the Wallace brother as 'the big black guy beating on Fred Jones'. Considering the guy's actual name has yet to be cited by media sources, that's just an accurate way describing the man, not a sign of racism or un-PC malfaction on the part of the original poster...
