Sac also get a future 1st round pick from PHX as well. We don't ditch our contracts that are bad but we get a bargain young player and a 1st round pick.

PHX replace the perimeter defense they lost with marion and adds a good defender in the post in AM. Also will effectively save 6ish mil on contracts because they won't have the 3rd year on LB's contract.

DET gets thier man (the best player in the deal) and a perfectly fine replacement for AM. I would assume Maxiel would start at PF now.

Do you think SAC town would go for a Diaw/Barbosa for J.Salmons/Brad Miller deal?
The salaries actually do match.
It's a pretty even trade in both numbers and talent IMO.
Salmons is capable of a little spot duty at PG right?

Salmons has a decent handle but is no more of a spot point guard than Barbosa.

I don't think the Kings would do this deal simply because we're trying to keep cap space clear for the big 2010 free agent class. Diaw and Barbosa are both signed through 2012 and would represent an extra $10M on our payroll in the summer of 2010. On top of that, since Salmons will be expiring in 2011, it's not unfeasible that we might flip him somewhere that has no hope of landing a big 2010 FA and have an extra $16M of cap space (relative to what we'd have with Barbosa/Diaw in the fold).

Add to that Barbosa not truly being a PG, and our SG spot being locked up by Martin, and I don't think it's that good of a fit for Sac either. I don't think it's too feasible, and I highly doubt this kind of a move would even be on the table until Artest is shipped out. That's priority #1.

What do you think Detroit would give, since Amick (7/23 blog) reported sources saying the Pistons are interested in Ron? I couldn't find this in a thread, not even in the Kings newslinks.

As I alluded to the other day here, I was told the one and only Detroit Pistons are considering a move for Ron Artest.
The one-and-only status, of course, comes because they're the one and only team you'd think would never touch the mercurial small forward in light of the context. But if Charles Barkley can beat another living, breathing human being in a foot race (even if it was just Dick Bavetta), well, then, impossible can happen.
Sure enough, a second source close to the Pistons has indicated Detroit is pondering a trade for Ron-Ron. I'm not sure of the opinions of the Pistons' powers-that-be - namely team president Joe Dumars and owner Bill Davidson - but it says plenty that the chatter surrounding the mere idea is spreading around them. And Dumars, for the record, may be glad this is getting out, since he reportedly is tired of fans thinking he's sitting on his hands.

The piece that gets it done here is Tayshaun Prince, and the Pistons - according to ESPN's Chris Broussard - have already considered other moves that include their stars. A Kings source tells me they have not called Sacramento, and I wouldn't be shocked if no one else had recently either. I'm told it's quiet enough that Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie is heading out for a vacation, which means we have something in common.

I'm checking out for a few days on this end as well, and will chime in upon return. - Sam Amick

The Detroit Free Press is reporting Amick's story. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080724/SPORTS03/80724090/&imw=Y

Altho, it's a definite no in some fan responses, I'm surprised so many are thrilled with the idea.
