DeMarcus FREAKING Cousins

Dell and company were certainly more excited about Boogie demolishing their entire team than Grant and Jerry were, that's for sure.

On an unrelated note, the Charlotte TV crew remains one of my favorites in the NBA.
The stream I was watching I could switch between the home and away telecasts....Grant was noticeably salty today, taking digs at Cousins throughout the game.

My imitation of the Charlotte TV crew last night: "Cousins gets it again...mmmm. Scores."

Three takeaways from last night's game:
One, Cousins is taking care of business. Big time. He's beginning to be that player we all want him to be. But the technicals are still going to rob him (and the team) of a game this year. The positive spin is to look at that game as a well-deserved rest game.
Two, Malachi will soon be our long-lost starting Shooting Guard. Maybe by the end of this season, or maybe in time for next season. But he's got game. Just needs to develop his NBA defensive skills.
Three, Lawson is ready for prime time, at least in the context of becoming the Kings starting Point Guard NOW, and getting re-signed this summer as a free agent (if at a reasonable cost). Collison is a 6' Shooting Guard and a capable backup PG. We'll go further this year if coach recognizes that and makes Lawson our number one quarterback.

I think people are underestimating hiw important it is to have a PG that can spot shoot threes at the rate that Collison does when you have a player like Cousins. Collison isnt great as a playmaker but Lawson being great at that and having a player like Cousins that is going to draw so much attention, we need guys like Collison, Afflalo,Temple and Tolliver to knock down open shots. That has been key to the resurgent play of late.

Cousins would not be playing the way he is if he was surrounded by Rondo, Mclemore, Bellinelli and Gay and their shooting splits from last year.

DC is a shooting guard. He's been shooting very well for about 5 games now. His defense is still average at best, I think he's below average. His ability to run the offense is bad....really bad, as in Temple might as well run point bad. DC is also to very clutch down the stretch but others can take that roll I guess.

All that being said, he's valuable for his shooting only, which is a big deal but the remainder of his game is suspect. He's a bench guy all the way. I think Lawson needs a majority of the PG minutes and by next year, I'd like to have Lawson and another PG in the rotation......preferably a taller PG.

It's a story of Collison's career: the moment he becomes #2 creator for his team, fans want him out. Thing is he's the same player, just not good enough for that, though he can be a solid third banana. And Kings don't need a heavily penetrating guy next to Cousins with the way he sucks all the defense inside. What Kings need is a wing, who can shoot from outside off the bounce.

My only two complaints about Charlotte's TV crew are:
  1. Stephanie Ready should be coaching somewhere.
  2. I feel some kind of way about how they "demoted" Steve Martin to the radio.

Agree on Lawson's worth. I believe he is where he is most valuable to this team - leading the Cuzless bench crew. Coach is right to stick with successful rotations.

I agree with everything you say. Mostly. My "don't fix it if it ain't broke" side of me is yelling very loudly. Having a semi-competent pg as a starter, one whose real skill is to spread the floor, and a great pg coming off the bench may work just fine if you have a giant, unstoppable man who starts and at times thinks he is a pg. :)

Note the clever and perhaps even proper use of the asterisks?

I thought bogdan bogdanovic was supposed to be our long lost starting sg. Honestly it's not a bad problem to have 2 starting caliber sg but it would be nice to have skal or papa-g do well and earn time and project to earn minutes next season

At the minimum, it seems likely our SG position is strengthened but none of that is proven. Afflalo and Temple sure help. I hope Skal develops a reliable 3 pointer. Let him join the ever increasing number of 7 ft. long distance shooters. I have far more hope for Papa than most on the forum. I have no secret way of knowing how he will evolve. You can't teach height and he has a lot of that even though a lot of that is his neck. He also has a nicely constructed frame and should spend a lot of time in the weight room. He is very young and built better than most tall guys his age. He also seems light on his feet. I need to review that to be sure.

To make a long story short, I think it is likely we will have 4 guys who have a lot of learnin' to do who can contribute to this team while they learn. Who thought we would come out of the last draft and be able to say that?

This new passing ability for Cuz could be the key to everything. What happens is he starts to make his teammates better because they know if they work hard to get open he's probably going to find them and they're going to get great shots. It's inspiring for everybody.

I remember playing basketball in my younger days and whenever guys would play with a "Black Hole" they would end up standing around, doing nothing, and most of the time wouldn't be motivated enough to play defense on the other end.

I'm encouraged by the new Boogie. And that means a lot coming from me!

He's never been this much of a willing passer and making the kind of decisions that he's making. This is an entirely new level.
Yep. Part of the credit goes to Boogie himself, part goes to Joerger and part goes to the teammates who are out there working as hard as they can to be part of the solution and not just more of the problem.

(And I think this may mark the first time in history I've actually been in complete agreement with you over a post about DMC. :p)

Lol. Probably true. We both share the love of the Kings, just have some differing opinions on how to be good again. Hopefully we get there one way or another!

got a decent bench mob rolling; Lawson, WCS and Barnes are becoming more consistent and formidable

upgrading our starters is a given necessity however utilizing what we have better is means to immediate improvement. Casspi and Temple to return from injury should help. Getting the most out of AA and Tolliver is vital to our push to 8th

Why is that even an article?
What article? It's just a tweet addressing the obvious for most of us, but dashing the hopes of the fans of a couple of teams who were still convinced we'd trade Boogie for future picks and a couple of bench warmers. :p
