You have to find a taker for a deal like that. And it's not our cap space we would have to worry about, it's the cap space of the team taking on his salary. It's probably unlikely, but I suppose that in the event that CP3 is traded and NO's salary goes way down or Denver comes up empty on all their attempts to sign free agents those teams may be looking to add some players. Maybe Houston if they strike out, but I really think they're more looking for a big man. Charlotte, Toronto, and Washington might end up having the cap space for Garcia as well.
 
Ok. Thanks. Well then my plan would work either way. A perfect compliment of defense and offense. I can see this team going places with that roster. I really believe Evans, Thorton and Cousins could be All-Star in the up coming years. I dont see a weakness in the roster I suggested except for experience of the players and playing together.

I figured that by having step 2 be the amnesty, people would get the idea that we'd have to clear salary, and if that means JT+pieces (which I almost put), then that's what the proposal would be. It's sort of hard to nail down any exact number, when you don't know if we'd end up signing AK for 9mil a year or not.

The point being, my guess is that Okafor is probably available for the right deal. And my guess is that a 'right deal' would be a decent player and salary relief, which we could provide. And adding both AK and a defensive center in Okafor would make a fantastic roster, at the expense of financial flexibility. (As mentioned, I'd prefer Dalembert for under 10mil/year, but if he's not available, I'd make a JT/Okafor swap)

And your playing fantasy trades. They are not going to amnesty Salmons and pay him $24 million over the next 3 years to not play for the team. Now if you put Salmons in the trade it could work.
 
I have always been a AK fan, but with his injury history I would rather go after Dally. You just can't teach size. Not a Salmons fan because he is a black hole and that's not what the Kings need.

Recently scrolled through 82games.com and found out that Salmons from Sacramento is a very bad defensive player but Salmons from Chicago (he brought trouble to their offense though) and Milwaukee is a very good one. Which got me thinking that maybe defensive strategy should probably expanded beyond "Hey, guys! Let's defend!"

Salmons was a good defensive player here. He's always been a strong man defender. One of the few guys who showed a real ability to stay in front of Reke these past couple of seasons too. But as with most of his game he's selfish and doesn't help much of anyone, so the impact is muted.

His numbers here were distorted by 3 factors: 1) he was often subbing in for Artest, which is a great way to end up with a negative defensive +/-, 2) he was constantly cross-checking with Kevin, always taking the better offensive player, making the guy lined up across from him at SF or whatever look good because of Kevin's defense, while he hled down Kevin's guy somehwat; and 3) and not really a distortion, he's a terrible rebounder at SF. He and Cisco are in fact two of the league's very worst, largley because they are actually just skinny SGs being played out of positon. In any case though he may stop his man, but with him on the floor your chances of getting the ball back are lessened.

I think it should be pointed out that most of the players in Sac when Salmons was here had no clue what team defense meant. It is hard to play team defense or help others when no one else is doing the same thing. Just ask JT how many he got left out to dry by Hawes (and others) his first couple years in the league.
 
AK, by a long margin.

The Kings with Dally here were not exactly world-class defense, and Dally caused almost as many problems with his goaltends, misplays and turnovers as he helped.

AK is a strict upgrade IMO, almost across the board. His kind of clutch play and versatility can not be overlooked - if we have any reasonable chance of getting him, the Kings would be foolish to hesitate. He's been an NBA starter almost his whole career, something that not one other non-Tyreke, non-DMC King (including Dalembert) can say.
 
Need to get GP on it. Surely he cant let this slip. I know how he is with defensive bigs but this is a real gamechanging FA here
