Crossing the line

It has been a long-standing naval tradition to celebrate crossing the equator in a ceremony that pays tribute to King Neptune. It is during this time-honored ceremony that slimy wogs are given the opportunity to become trusty shellbacks.

Unfortunately, having been based on the east coast for most of my life, I have never had an opportunity to celebrate this tradition... until today. After twenty-nine long years of suffering as a slimy wog, the last ten years of which have been in service to the World's Finest Navy, I have now finally earned the right to be referred to as a Trusty Shellback... Go Me!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go order a new pair of sneakers; the old ones... well, let's just say they won't be going on my feet anymore...

My dad recently retired from the navy and he never once mentioned anything like "crossing the line." He was probably to embarassed. I'm gonna ask him now. Congratulations Mr. Citrus!

Congrats to a fellow Shellback...I myself crossed the line 3-4 times since i was stationed in the pacific...one question for slim, were you entered in the beauty contest??

Do they still give you the cool certificate for that?

Just curious - are you a Bluenose as well?
Yes... And no.

No I wasn't, and if you had any idea how PC it is these days, you'd be disgusted.
