Monarchs 93, Comets 78 in Houston

Nice job by Yo, with 15 points and 9 boards.

Now the Monarchs come home with two chances to close out the Comets.

Awesome display of composure & skill. They dominated & the defense was active. I'm so proud of how they came out & executed the game plan to perfection. We were agressive & played as a team...excellent coaching.
DeMaya set the tone, & the reat of the team followed suit.
Just beautiful basketball for Monarch fans everywhere!

Hope to get to see it either Fri or Sat, if I managed to set my TiVo correctly before I left town. (Special thanks to MamaB for updating me thoughout the game while I made the return flight from hell - I owe you one as promised, see post game party below ;)).

I don't want two chances, close the damn series on Saturday and don't mess around...remember the Storm's fate last year? Close the damn door, rest Yo's knees and get ready for the next round.

Oh, and by the way...Monarchs Playoffs 2006 WE RUN THIS!!!

Saw the thread re: the Skyline pregame

I'm proposing we gather after games 2 and 3(if nec) anybody up for gathering after the game on Saturday somewhere close to ARCO...Over the Border, Chilis, Mimis?

See... What had happened Was...

You know I think that was the best game of basketball I have even seen the Monarch play.

What should terrify the West is that no one had a break out insane game. Nobody was unstoppable.

Everyone just did what they were suppose to do. The Post players posted up. The wings hit their shots. Ticha penetrated. And our defense took care of the rest.

MBF-This was the type of effort that you would have been very pleased with. The Score doesn't come close to doing the game justice.

I hoped to see Nicole in Double figures. But 9pts and 6 rebounds is more than acceptable. More important. She took shots when they tried to Double down on DeMya.

Kara was very impressive. Again.

But I think the deal breaker for this game was DeMya. She messed up their entire plan.
Tina cannot... I repeat...CANNOT guard DeMya in the post.
She wore Tina Down, beat her to spots in the paint, and defended her very well.

She also forced the Comets to adjust on Defense. They had to bring help on DeMya and that really open the game up for everyone.

So hats off to her.

Point Guard play was very good. Ticha held Sheryl and Dawn in check. Haynie hit some nice buckets at the Free-Throw line extended.

Kara was Kara. But hey we had a guest appearance By Sholanda Dorrell. ***Chew***. Nice to see her back in the swing of things. She had a few nifty moves around the basket.

Maiga She just gets all twisted when it comes to the Comets. Didn't she fall off the bench during the play-offs last year when Nicole hit "The Shot"? And foul out in Game 2 of that series. No matter. She offers Comic relief to the series.

The Post.

DEVASTATING= 41 points between Yo Demya and Brunson. Erin had a quiet 4, but she was banging around.

I would say that Houston is definitely Shell Shocked to say the least.

But take nothing for granted. Let get this done Saturday Ladies.

That game was a thing of beauty! The Monarchs played perfect basketball at both ends of the court. They did all the right things on offense and their defense was unrelenting.

It was a huge statement to everyone that the Monarchs are the defending champions and they aren't going to give that title up to anyone. Everyone and their mothers had Houston sweeping the series. Everyone underestimated the Monarchs coming into this series (except Lisa Leslie and Jellybean Bryant apparantly!) If they can remain that focused and determined remains to be seen... but damn that was a great way to start off the playoffs.

As for the Saturday post-game get together, I'm all for it. I'm kind of partial to BJ's... but I'm cool with Chilli's or Mimi's.

Meanwhile... I need to make some heads roll at Directv!! Since I'm STILL not hooked up! I know they're going to replay that game and I want a copy damnit. They better get their butts in gear and get me my NBAtv!

Tell it like it is MamaB...DON'T BE f....AROUND WHEN IT COMES TO OUR MONARCH'S! We have priorities right? Kinda wish that was on comcast, so I could watch the replay. But I am very happy with the 1st showing.
That was very cool of Cynthia Cooper giving all those props....guess she had no choice!

Joining in a bit late here......I watched the game at home, in my recliner, with a big bowl nearby in case I could not get up and make it to the bathroom before being sick. Ewwwwww!:( You would not have recognized my reaction to this fantasticly played game. There was no jumping up and down; no fist pumping; no dancing around; no yelling. Yep, I was feeling pretty poorly, but the Monarchs sure did their best to make me feel better...emotionally, if not physically.

Okay, I'd better go get Saturday's playoff prediction game posted.

NBH...ya got me I *hate* it when I'm transparent like that...;)

BJ's works for me...I had my alotment of bread pudding for the week while I was in Indy. ;) ::checking BJs menu for bread pudding" I may swing by and say hi to the brunchers too...I'll be all over the place quite frankly, I'm amped up already!!

I now have some family business I’ll possibly need to tend to later that afternoon which will also make it EVEN MORE imperative that the Monarchs do NOT let this series extend to Monday night because I may need to not be in Sacramento that evening.

Thanks Luv13 for the analysis – ‘preciate it.:) MamaB said the final score in no way represented the Monarchs’ dominance and control. Hope they show me that live on Saturday. Maiga does go crazy when the Comets are the opponent, yep…she was the one who fell off the bench, she did foul out of game 2 AND when coach Whiz brought her in to a regular season game late for the expressed intent of denying Swoopes the ball to protect a 2 or 3pt lead with under a minute to play, Maiga completely mugs Sheryl before the ball even is inbounded giving Sheryl 2 FTs ANYWAY and the ball back!!! Fun times, I tellya LOL

MamaB, kick some DirecTV @%$!! That's ridiculous. Although my install guy was cool and all once he made it to my place, he did try to come all hours after the fact and try to get out of doing the install. Him: "I running a little late, I won't make it until 6:30pm - do you still want me to come?" Me: "Um...YEAH...my appointment was for today, not whenever"

In case anybody forgot...Monarchs Playoffs 2006 "We Run This"

I didn't see the game last night. I don't have DirectTV, so I went around looking for what's left of the few sports bars around my neighborhood (where there are hardly any) to see if they have NBA-TV, so I could watch the game.

But Oshima Sushi doesn't have NBA-TV. And neither does the Cheers Sports Bar in El Camino, so I just listened to the game on the car radio.

Incredible game by the Monarchs. With the exception of Maiga-Ba's five fouls in seven minutes, our gals played excellent ball. I hope they keep it up throughout the post-season!

Anyway, from my Game #1 prediction:
Game score: The Houston Vomits, er, Comets win Game #1, 80-73 (7-point margin)
OK. I'm man enough to admit it: I was wrong. Dead wrong. Not even close.

So, I'm eating crow right now. And, actually, I'm glad that I am. If it takes another Championship for the Monarchs, then I'll eat whatever crow you offer me.

Pass the salt and pepper, please! :D

I wish I could have seen the game live, but loved listening on the radio. I'll be at the game tomorrow. I think the Comets will be tough and this will be a different game.

Sorry you were so horribly sick, tho, 6th. :(

Hey you guys, it's on the web page broadband. You can see the game at will. Go to the Monarchs web page and follow the links. I'm rewatching the game right now. "Sacramento's dominating the game....." :)

We spent the entire game in the Emergency Room watching JonBonet Ramsey crap and missed the whole thing.
Did any one TIVO or VCR the game? Sure would love to see it.

I just checked my TiVo recording just to be sure I did indeed do the settings right....for some reason the guide listings for TiVo did not have a WNBA game playing so I had to manually tell TiVo to turn itself on and off. I got all of the game and the recording stops just as the post game handshake line ends. I was sweatin' it. I don't have a mechanism handy at the moment to pull it off the TiVo and onto another media...

Hi 6th...just got in from the fair...yes we always have room for you.
The reservation is in my name, or just meet us outside at 11am.

Did you women get your direct TV...I sure hope so!

Went to the Wnba Get Fit booths & low & behold...my girl Ruthie B. was there shooting hoops & signing autographs. I joked around with her about how many Autographs I've asked for over the years! We got a kick out of that...can you imagine 10 years of signing for the same fans!
She looked great as usual. You could tell she really misses the game. Must be difficult to retire when your not ready. Most athlete's talk about really missing being around the players & fans , the daily routines. I feel a bit sad when I see her & how she still has that desire to play. Ruthie is just cool. We talked to her about running a fitness class with us, It would be about $15 per person. Anyone interested? Let me know & we can try & coordinate a date.

Hey Steven, sorry you missed the game. You could have joined me at my mom's. Lets hope the MSE puts something together next time.
See you all Sat.! GO MONARCHS...''WE RUN THIS''
